The problem is that I already read a lot of xianxia/xuanhuan webnovels. That's why I find 'Unrivaled Medicine God' is so clice.

So many review but most have only read 100 or less chapters and panning it - the novel is 3119 chapters long! From an alchemy/ crafting novel, this is one of the BEST novels around. This is why you have to be careful when you see low ratings on novels but most of the reviewers haven't given the novel a chance and mistakenly lump it together with all the other Chinese Novels.

This novel is DIFFERENT from other alchemy/ crafting novels because:

Just for the record I have read at least 20+ novels with alchemy/crafting including ISSTH, WDDG, WSSTH, CWaC, AEDD, SotTR, DMWG, ED, AST, BTTH, AWE, WotMG, MW, PMG, WoC etc

The ONLY other novel I've read with comparable alchemy is Immortal Mortal - that novel is more if you like an alchemist who knows nothing and has to graft from start, this novel is more for someone who knows a lot and such the emphasis is on the result rather than the journey. Both are solid styles, just a preference. A good analogy is do you prefer weak to strong or strong from start novels?

ISSTH and BTTH have solid alchemy but just not enough while WDDG is more about harem than pill concocting. Immortal Mortal and UMG basically have ISSTH pill concocting quality but the alchemy is relevant 90%+ of the novel.

So why are people panning it? Well, the martial path isn't as well done as in other novels and the romance is absent. If you judge this novel as a whole then a lot of readers can be off put but I came into this for the alchemy and as mentioned, its one of the better novels around which allowed me to read 3119 chapters worth!

This novel does have a couple of shortfalls though:

TLDR: One of the two best alchemy novels I've read (other being Immortal Mortal) - I have read a good chunk of the mainstream alchemy novels - and if you don't mind a lack of romance and reading MTL this should be a must read. Not perfect but much better than most other crafting novels out there - don't be fooled by the low rating, most people haven't given this novel enough time.

5% story 95% annoying filler and audience comments, typical ordinary Chinese cultivation novel. Don't expect much as most pill cultivation novels usually revolve around the same cliche tropes. The story is filled with arrogant young masters and nonsensical problems that persist through 10+ chapters. Story line started decently but rolls in a downhill spiral from there.

Another OP MC face-slap fest Chinese cultivation novel, complete with all the same cliches you've experienced a million times, that actually starts out OK... until it turns into filler after filler, while endlessly repeating itself and saying things that have already been said multiple times before. Unrepentant in its blatant word padding, it seeks to bore the audience to death, 'Unrivaled Medicine God'? More like 'Unending Masochistic Grind'.

This was one of my favorite cultivation novels, but after some point I was starting to get very dissapointed so I here I am writing why someone should and also shouldnt read this novel.

Anyway, this novel was one of my favorite cultivation storys, despite all the cliches, but if I could do it all over again, I would read only until maybe chapter 1500, before he goes into higher world.

Well, it's a good novel despite being cliche. It has everything that a normal novel has: the genius girl friend of the MC; the main friend without much relevance; rivals; overpower.

It is not perfect, but it is acceptable, our MC was betrayed in the past and reincarnated in the body of a playboy who died, the good thing is that he does not act like a child always, only sometimes. Anyway, there is some visible and grotesque mistakes, but if you ignore it, everything will be fine, I'll give an example to anyone who wants a spoiler.

The MC is a sword master and in the fight of life or death did not even think about catching a sword but a technique, wtf type.

By the way, despite being a novel of alchemy, the major focus will be martial arts, since in this second life our protagonist wants to take revenge.

Maybe I edit in the future cause I like to read about 200 chapters before saying what I truly thinks about a novel.

There are only a few novels that really focus on alchemy. 4 stars if you like novels that focus on alchemy alot.

WDDG is one and this is the other one. unfortunately WDDG is ruined by Ash....

Novels that will always be compared to this novel is

The other novels that are compared such as WSSH, PMG and so on is actually funny because these stories only use alchemy at the start as a form of quick powerups. alchemy is then ignored for a long time and possibly never happens again.

it starts off as an average xuanhuan; fast paced, full of action and tons of face slapping. I like the alchemy stuff and I can relate his desire to be more balanced between the martial and alchemy paths. I could handle the very heavy plot armor, godly levels of luck, the excessive face slapping, the overload of excessively padded chapters, his friends-in-a-box, and even the harem, which periodically needs to be rescued whenever the author runs out of ideas and so lets them out of the box to get into trouble. What killed it for me was the chosen one/ child of destiny trope that popped up 1000 chapters into it.

when all that "chosen child of heaven/ mandate" crap came into play, my eyes rolled so hard I think I sprained them. As if the super thick plot armor and ungodly luck wasn't bad enough, the author just had to add the chosen one BS in an attempt, I assume, to make his cookie-cutter MC stand out among all the other xuanhuan cookie-cutter MCs. My interest dropped by at least 75% between c1000 and c1090 (and my interest wasn't that high to begin with). Consequently my rating dropped from an average 3 to a 2. Later I raised it to 2.5

on another note, I've never seen a story recycle names the way this one does. So many of his enemies are Ji or Wu or Gu in every realm that it's confusing as hell, especially when the names are spelled exactly the same and used for the same mook type characters (i suspect there might be tonal differences in Chinese that don't cross over to the English translation).

I also suspect this author actually cut and pasted some of his chapters, changing the name of the realm and the cultivation levels but keeping most of the rest. Some of the chapters are suspiciously similar, including having the same named enemies, but separated by 1000 chapters.

i really wish there was a half choice in the ratings. It's OK enough to be higher than a two at some points but I don't think it deserves a 3 over all. My current score is 2.5 rounded up.

This is a generic xianxia novel. MC reincarnates, subverts people's imagination of cultivation, crosses realms in fighting, best Alchemy knowledge already available to him before even reincarnation.

However there is also a bullsh*t concept called Son of destiny by which he's always in frontlines in fighting evil. All extraordinary events seem to revolve around him or even world revolves around him. Divine treasures literally fall on him when others didn't even see them in their life. Dangerous events turn into fortuitous encounters. Plot armour is so blatant it's not even funny. MC seem to use his brain every time except in some blatantly forced situations by author.

For better or worse I was also reading History's strongest senior brother before this and I can't help find it funny when these cliche plots happen. In HSSB MC in the beginning literally encounters a 'protagonist' same as MC in this UMG.

Edit: I've completed a major arc in story. People in his world fighting for a chance to attain Deity Realm. MC level up--->goes to higher realm---->Literally almost everyone is deity realm. Author repeatedly mentioned how heart realm is important for attaining diety realm and how our MC is so OP in heart realm. If everyone is almost deity what's the use of explaining that nonsense so many times. Also face slapping seems to be the main theme right now.

So it's an extremely cliche novel which you find everywhere. It's not bad but it's not good either. Only helps if you have tons of time to waste.
