Okay, first of all, I honestly don't understand what everyone is yammering about this novel being so bad and so forth, let me give you the reasons:
Warning, spoilers ahead!
- A/B/O setting
The complaints about the Omega's capability or more like incapability against defending themselves from alphas due to pheromones, dude, its an ABO world with no sci-fi genre... what did you expect???
There are already a special system to protect omegas and seperate them from alphas to better protect them at school where the students are still immature and impulsive, there are inhibitors that can be provided by the gov to the legal guardians for the omegas, and there are treatments to allow the cancellation of a permanent mark (so it's really not actually permanent) though it comes with long recovery time.
And although the omegas are often treated as fragile and physically weaker, they are not receiving this treatment from the society as a whole coz they're being looked down upon. Also, when the MC showed his athleticity, nobody in their school aside from his opponents tried to put him down by saying how can an omega be so rough? Omega's job is to just stay still and look pretty/depend on an alpha.
This is one of the few novels where there is no emphasization on discrimation against omegas and betas for their basic rights as a human being (higher education, marriage, child bearing, work).
And while throughout the story there are plenty of Alphas with less than stellar attitudes towards omegas, there are many more that simply treats them as precious, admirable and respectable fellow human beings (especially if they're good looking but that's just human nature)
If you wanna complain about how alphas could take advantage of multiple omegas by marking them, just so you know this exist IRL life too, Stockholm syndrome is a thing for a reason, you can say all you want about how it is different in omegas' case cause of pheromone and all that but psychological manipulation is no less lethal...
As for MC's father, stepmom and stepbrother's action of trying to sell MC for benefits, while this could be attributed to him differentiating into an Omega, in a normal story with no ABO setting, MC could still have been sold for his looks, bcoz, yes, such disgusting people actually exist...
And in term of MC and ML's realtionship, I like how both their parents actually only allow them to truly have their own house after they are adults and they were also supportive without being too overbearing or annoying (no insinuation of MC belonging to ML since ML already gave MC multiple temporary marks, no pressure about grandchildren, MC's mother even caution MC several times about his relationship with ML).
Oh, and MC's friends were also very supportive of their ships but not by pressuring MC, one of MC's friends even complained about how MC was so soft-hearted to treat ML so well when he thought ML dumped MC which is sweet.
So yeah, all in all, I don't think this story shows a huge power imbalance bet. the three secondary genders, in fact, it is quite an open society.
- Power imbalance bet MC and ML
People, let me just ask you, bet a man and a woman for example, women will always fall short in term of physical strength unless they have special training, right???
So it is up to the man to be mindful of his strength and treat his partner with respect (not that it means the physically weaker partner shouldn't have the same attitude, but you get my point).
In the case of MC and ML, I can safely say, while the ML certainly has the power and resource to force MC, he never did. ML was always upfront with admitting to MC about his extreme possessiveness but he never actually acted on it. He's a dominant alpha, richer, and stronger, but throughout the story, while he did eat MC's tofu many times, he never went too far and the moment MC strongly express his rejection, ML will stop.
He'll sulk, ofc, and tempt MC with his dragon form but the the fact that MC actually indulge the ML's bouts of sulking and temper by coaxing him once MC realized he really did hurt the ML is proof that their relationship is consensual and the ML truly respect the MC's boundaries. Even after they really started dating, the ML didn't pressure the MC and simply teased the MC from time to time. In fact, the one who initiated to be more intimate was MC.
- The memory loss
Some ppl say this plot twist came out of nowhere and was unnecessary but I think this plot point was crucial to make MC and ML's relationship a healthy one.
Since they started off with codependency due to the contract and subsequently 100% pheromone match due to said contract. And MC was barely acclimatizing to his transmigration, let alone his new status as an omega before he was first given the temporary mark by ML (even if MC gave his consent for that, I truly doubt he truly understood what he was going into since he just became an omega then).
And their relationship at first became intimate way too fast due to ML's dependency on Mc's pheromone, so the memory loss happen just at the moment I started feeling uncomfortable about their relationship/feelings-being genuine or it's just the pheromones talking-and gave them a fresh start which proof ML's sincerity, dedication and patience when it comes to his feeling for MC and it also show that ML always try to respect the MC's boundaries.
And MC's feelings were also able to develop properly for ML due to ML's character and his efforts to chase after MC instead of the MC just being swept away by their situation, pheromones and past contract.
So, yeah, definitely one of the most healthiest relationship you can find among ABO novels. Scratch that, even in normal world settings, the relationship bet. MC and ML is one of the healthiest relationships you can find, what with the super popular yandere tropes running rampant in BLs... Right, I forgot, yandere ML are popular too in heterosexual novels...
Edit: Almost forgot, thnx translator, you did a great job!
