I unconsciously shivered because of the chilling atmosphere.
My shoulders shrank as I peeked at Kami-sama, and saw that his gaze was fixed on me.
When our eyes met, he gently smiled at me, tilting his head as if to ask me what was wrong.
“What might it be, Eleanor-san?”
His eyes crinkled with a smile, the earlier coldness disappearing as if it didn’t exist in the first place.
He still looked like he had his head in the clouds as he beamed at me, making me question whether it was just an illusion I mistakenly saw.
However, I was certain it was no illusion.
I could still keenly feel his unfathomable divine aura.
“Kami-sama… what deity are you?”
I gripped the cup of black tea as I asked Kami-sama.
I could no longer believe that he was the Incompetent God that dwelled in a quagmire.
But if he wasn’t… then who is he?
‘A deity that didn’t exist in the Founding Deity Legend? A deity that even the Shrine doesn’t know exist?… Or else…’
Something Lufure-sama said long ago flashed to my mind.
He told me that one of the deities in the Shrine might be a fake….
‘I don’t believe his just an ordinary deity. At the very least, he must be important enough that even Adoracion-sama would willingly offer his own mansion!’
He was a deity that didn’t bow to anyone except his older brother Granverite, and yet he did that, and yet he would go as far as do that.
Kami-sama must be embroiled in some sort of special circumstances.
There’s absolutely something going on here! I eagerly thought.
“…What… am I?”
In contrast to my enthusiasm, Kami-sama stared at me blankly.
He tilted his head further, blinked, then —
“What kind of deity am I, I wonder?”
He uttered in a very relaxed manner, as if all the tension in his body left.
“…Huh?”
“I’m not sure about this myself. My appearance might have changed, but it doesn’t mean my memories have returned.”
Kami-sama shrugged apologetically without wiping off his smile, but it was my turn to be bewildered
….His memories hadn’t returned?
“Even the filth is still within my body. I myself do not understand why my appearance changed so… Perhaps that’s also the reason I lack self-awareness.”
He continued on, sounding troubled, and he faintly shook his head.
He then fixed his gaze on the dumbfounded me, before smiling broadly.
“I’m happy that I have changed into my current appearance.”
The golden eyes gazing at me were quivering in unspeakable joy.
In this shady, dark room, his eyes gently glowed like rays of sun.
Warm, and somewhat reassuring…
“I can finally look Eleanor-san in the eye as we speak.”
I could no longer look at him directly.
His smile was too bright that it made me purse my lips.
‘…Urk…’
Come to think of it, he was right. He had been staring at me the entire time.
He would crinkle his eyes in a smile, then blink happily, a grin constantly plastered on his face.
‘…Ugh…’
I was already flustered enough, but all the words I wanted to say would fly out the window whenever I met his beaming gaze.
The cold and doubts I felt earlier had already slipped out of my mind, and thoughts of unjustified resentment filled it instead.
‘It’s so unfair, Kami-sama…!’
If I did say that, he would be unable to reply.
"
"
I was thoroughly mortified, so I averted my gaze to cover up my flaming cheeks, which were burning for some reason — Kami-sama’s shoulders slumped dejectedly.
