Volume 5 (Before) Chapter 5
ā€œā€” Really, it’s not such a big deal.ā€
I managed to calm myself down, and had just finished fixing Kami-sama’s room.
This air-head deity with no self awareness was nonchalantly pouring me black tea, as if nothing changed from before.
ā€œThey have gathered here to discuss how I will live from now on, where I will stay — it’s all about those things.ā€
He said while pouring tea for himself, before sitting down across from me, the table between us.
He held the cup with his slender fingers, took a sip, before sighing, as if relieved.
ā€œWell, come to think of it, this room is indeed quite cramped for your current appearance. They must’ve been worried for you.ā€
They did have a point.
It had been fine back when he was still his black, round, self, but this room was indeed too narrow for a big adult to live in.
So, they were discussing his living arrangements with Adoracion-sama, the second highest ranking deity along with many other deities under that mysterious divine aura….
…
……..
As if!!
ā€œThat many deities gathered here all for Kami-sama!? Just to discuss your quarters!?ā€
Couldn’t sigh in relief, couldn’t take a breath — I ended up gasping while saying that.
That’s nonsense. No way the deities, who didn’t even appear in front of humans, would gather under that oppressive atmosphere just to talk about that!!
It’s impossible! — I shook my head in disbelief, but Kami-sama didn’t budge.
He just scratched his head awkwardly, and instead of jiggling like a jelly, his beautiful face broke into a grin.
ā€œIndeed, everyone was so sincere. Adoracion even offered his own mansion, but ā€”ā€
ā€œHis own mansion!? Adoracion-sama did!?ā€ ā€œBut I refused.ā€ ā€œYou refused!?ā€
I don’t know how much more shocked I could be.
I could only clutch my head in front of this perfectly air-head Kami-sama.
ā€˜Adoracion-sama’s the second highest ranking deity!! Why did such an important guy offer that to Kami-sama!? And yet this guy even refused!!’
ā€œWhy did you refuse such a great offer!? B-But yes, I do understand how you probably felt in face of such an outrageous proposal!ā€
Actually, I don’t think I can agree if Adoracion-sama were to offer his mansion to me.
My soul will probably fly out of my body, but more than anything else, the Shrine won’t swallow it down.
It would definitely turn into one heck of a pain in the neck for sure if that were to happen.
ā€œStill, you could’ve agreed to borrow just one room instead! It’s a once-in-a-lifetime offer, after all!ā€
ā€œWell, that’s true.ā€
Kami-sama smiled wryly in the face of my desperation.
He then slowly shook his head.
ā€œHowever, I am very fond of this place…. Eleanor-san had painstakingly organized this place, after all.ā€
His gentle speech blocked my next words.
There’s no way I would feel bad after being told that.
I already poured blood and sweat just to clean this room, after all…

Above all else, I lived in this room with Kami-sama until now.
Kami-sama basked in the sun in front of the window that only experiences rays of light in the morning and in the evening.
It had been part of my daily routine to open this shabby, crudely made window to let the sun in and watch Kami-sama shake comfortably.
Initially, I was reluctant, but now, going to this room had become something natural to me.
It was a forsaken place on the outskirts of the Shrine; a place that even the priests didn’t visit.
Small, dark, cramped — and yet it had become a room that provided peace and comfort to me, a place that made me feel relieved.
ā€˜Kami-sama…’
I subconsciously raised my head that I had been clutching.
Moved with happiness that Kami-sama liked it and still chose to stay in this room even though he could’ve moved to a better place, I was about to speak whenĀ  —
ā€œBesidesā€
Kami-sama continued on, so I swallowed the words I was about to say.
His expression didn’t change, but I felt a chill run down my spine.
ā€œHow I am treated will be left to the humans.ā€
His tone was quiet, gentle and unfathomably calm.
I couldn’t see his true feelings behind the smile that deepened further.
The smile that was plastered on Kami-sama for the sake of ā€˜smiling’ —
ā€œThere’s no meaning if the deities bestow it on me…. Humans should be the ones to decide everything.
Cold.
I couldn’t say anything else.
