Well, lets see I cannot recommend this novel simply due to how unlikable the main character is and the plot holes.

Without spoiling the novel itself, the author attempts to give us a "realistic" main character who has vices. Now this would not be a problem except well the main character has no redeeming features, frequently throughout the novel he will lie, steal or cheat to get more money. If he makes a mistake or gets caught he blames others for his own faults (parents, friends, coworkers, etc). Even if others are nice and helpful to him he was still use them, as for whatever reason they like the main character they seem to be at his beck and call even when he is well a piece of crap to them. The Author tries to make the main character have a conscience at times by implying that when the main character is rich he will come back and thank all these people who helped him. (Doesnt really happen by the end)

Plot holes, well the author, seems to have not had a proper editor or possibly the editor wrote the story themselves which seems to be a frequent thing with novels recently. To give examples we may have a co worker or boss or friend introduced we will have maybe one or two lines about them and thats it. Later we will have them in a different scenario where they maybe at a new job or have been fired or promoted but we will not know about it till after the fact like we knew all along.

MC: hey bill hows accounting going?

Bill: Great thanks!

two chapters later

Mc: Hey bill I heard you being the CEO of all of china was great and all you have a military?

Bill: yeah I took over and beat a Bear and their was a fish it was great seeing you!

two chapters later

Mc: hey bill hows work at the supermarket treating you?

Bill: good I just got promoted to bagger as you know my families poor.

this continues so on and so forth its extremely frustrating. Thats why this novel gets a 1 star from me as while it could have given us a much more humanistic perspective of the rise through the business world it simply falls flat.

Reading stories likes this reminds me of a popular maxim: writing characters who are more intelligent than you are is hard. The difficulty, clearly, in writing a financial genius is that if the author understood how to be a financial genius, he would be one himself - or at least would probably be making enough money to not have to write get-paid-by-the-chapter webnovels.

So, because the author can't convincingly write realistic ways of someone possibly accumulating wealth, instead the main character keeps taking s*upid risks, making s*upid decisions, doing shady or immoral things that realistically should get him arrested, and profiting from all of those incredibly short-sighted choices through blind luck. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing; there are stories out there that involve lovable idiots lucking their way into fame and fortune; alternately, there are stories about strong-willed scumballs who make you want to root for them because they keep making unethical-yet-profitable decisions and succeeding through sheer will to p0wer.

Instead, this story displays a main character who is the worst of both worlds - he's a scumbag, so it's almost impossible to like him; but on the other hand he displays no canniness nor ambition, he's just a weak-willed, ordinary person who relies totally on luck. I think this novel has honestly one of the least sympathetic characters that I've ever read.

It escapes a 1.0 rating only because it thoroughly commits to what it wants to achieve, a 'realistic' display of how a completely ordinary person could potentially obtain great wealth. However, much needless time, effort, and readers' eyestrain could have been achieved if the main character had simply won a lottery during the first chapter - the total amount of luck and improbability required for such an event would probably have been less.

I would say, this is by far the s*upidest novel I've read up to its current chapter. Yet it's a good read.

The marriage for me concluded the story of a once poor ordinary man.

The amount of times I wanted to drop this novel is incalculable, but pushed through it merely because I was so far in it. Do not do what I did. The other reviews have got it spot on.
