~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~\n
âThe Snow Girls? What is that?â\n
It was during the chatter of recess that Fujisaki-san and Okamoto-san abruptly brought up the topic.\n
âEhh? You donât know Yukki?â\n
The boring idle talk about TV and Internet videos led into it.\n
Also, Recently among the girls, my name has changed from Yukiya-chan to Yukki.\n
âItâs the local idol group, it was recently formed in our prefecture.â\n
That was the first I heard of this.\n
âNo, I never heard of them.â\n
They all gave a nod of understanding.\n
I probably seem like I know nothing about pop culture.\n
It makes sense. Whenever I open my mouth itâs usually about the store.\n
It was like that even when I was a boy.\n
âIs Miss Hyosei a part of that group? I saw them at the snow festival.â\n
I remembered a woman walking along with the mascot Hyosei-kun at the snow festival.\n
She had thick makeup along with a stash that said âMiss Hyoseiâ over her thick fashioned jacket. She also had a microphone in one hand to appeal to the visitors.\n
âThat person is an event only PR person, just there for promoting tourism. She usually does different work.â\n
I also found out that itâs Matsuda-san from the soft ball tennisâs club older sister. . .And she was originally working for the local tourism company as an office worker.\n
And then there is Hyosei-kun which is well known in the town.\n
Both are mascots for the local town from the townâs PR department.\n
Though it seems that the SnowGirls are different.\n
âThis is a full fledged idol team, and they are spreading across the whole country.â\n
She brought out smartphone. It was on a website that showed an article. The âSnow Country Daily Newsâ I couldnât really read it from here.\n
She handed me her phone. It said âThis local Prefectureâs four girl idol group. The SnowGirls Idol groupâs refreshing debut.â\n
There were also PR banners on the side promoting the prefectureâs famous amenities such as skiing and food.\n
But in the article, it was talking about a new song to the fan.\n
It seems that they are also doing idol activities.\n
On a side note, the official website was very elaborate. It used videos and animations in a modern design.\n
It was even designed for smartphone use.\n
It sort of got me interested in trying that.\n
âHuh, I never knew. . .â\n
âThey have been doing a lot of promotions here and there. Iâve seen it in front of Hyosei Station, and also on the streets.â\n
Everyone has apparently seen it, so they were still shocked I havenât.\n
âYukiya-chan, youâve been busy with your family shop, havenât you.â\n
Alot of the people in Hyosei Village help their family business. Iâm not the only one.\n
Honestly I was just late to it. Itâs not like I plan on living under a rock.\n
âSo what is this Idol group doing?â\n
âWell look and see.â\n
She then pointed to the corner of the top. There was a headline announcement.\n
âRecruiting members?â\n
When you click the banner it takes you to a custom page with an application form.\n
âWhy donât you apply?â\n
âYou should definitely apply, you are super cute.â\n
So because Yukki is cute. They are trying to sweet talk me.\n
Is that the reason Iâm being talked to?\n
âBut I just got to Hyosei Village, and local idol groups are tough, arenât they?â\n
I gently refused. Yukiya(â) Kitahara is a newcomer to this village.\n
I could definitely go. And my peers are cheering me on for it.\n
But even if the crowd cheers, I will not climb that tree.\n
Iâm also busy helping the store, and above all, singing and dancing in public seems embarrassing. \n
Regardless, my curiosity got me to look closer at their webpage.\n
âLocal Idol Snow Girl celebrating the first anniversary of formation, huh. . .â\n
For recruitment, contact OrangeStar PRO.\n
Never heard of it, but it seems like an entertainment agency. Though there is a general consensus that it is an established agency.\n
There is also a blog that is being updated moderately.\n
Mai Asakura-san, straight black hair.\n
Yuuki Mina-san, Twin tail hair.\n
Mutsumi Hiruta-san. A pigtail on the side of her shortcut hair.\n
These seem to be the current members.\n
They surely are cute. . . Thatâs a common sentiment between all of them.\n
âThere was actually a fourth, but that one seemed to have graduated.â\n
Okamoto-san softly informed me. She seems to know a lot about idols.\n
âYeah, it means leave the group.â\n
So itâs a gentle industry term.\n
Seems that there must be various ups and downs in being an idol.\n
But still. . .Leaving after one year. Those ups and downs must have been intense.\n
Theyâre also planning on appearing on the local radio later this week? Also a mini live event at the prefectureâs small concert hall. Photo session, and a handshake event, etc.\n
Please vote in the popularity contest? Huh?\n
On the side it says they are 18th place. Hmm, I donât know if thatâs good or not.\n
There are 48 prefectures, so they are doing good?\n
âI saw only a few enthusiast fans, so I wonder if they are doing well.â\n
It doesnât seem like they are that popular outside of snow country. Though they do have some enthusiastic cult-like fans.\n
Itâs still a growing group.\n
I mean, although itâs a local idol group, I didnât even know that it was in my area. So they still have a long way to go.\n
âWell. . .There are countless idols right now.â\n
âAnd even if it appeals to the snowy country, it would be quite difficult to break out of that.â\n
Everybody else had the same thought.\n
Itâs not uncommon to have a local idol group.\n
âRegardless, itâs impossible for me to join them.â\n
I politely declined again while waving my hands.\n
If a friend perhaps invited me to go with them as a casual thing, not trying to join, maybe Iâll go through with it. Then I doubt there would be anything spectacular.\n
Okamoto-san and Fujisaki-san agreed.\n
I think even if I was good at singing and dancing, I wouldnât be interested.\n
I donât want to be an idol, or child actor, so itâs out of the question in the first place. Regardless this kind of thing requires a certain amount of skill, not just an appearance.\n
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~\n
This was a weird chapter. At first I thought the author just really liked idols and wanted to add that in the story, but in the author note they said they know very little about idols, and to bear with them. \n
So I wonder what they will do with this plot?\n
