I looked at Natsumi-chan, she was simply staring at me.
I nodded and I left her by the stairs.
Ahh. . .
The time has come.
The noise from the school could be heard from far away.
I’m near the unpopular storage space of the musical room.
Although the building is heated, it does not mean that it is evenly spread. In this part of the school, the heater isn’t reaching it, and the air feels cool.
For me, it is one of the nice things to happen to me today.
When I entered the cool room, there was somebody waiting. Senpai.
“Forgive me, Senpai. Were you waiting long?”
I showed up and “pretended” to be a bit girly. I can’t let it escape that I am actually a former boy.
There is a definite danger if my identity is exposed.
“It’s no problem, Kitahara-san.”
Nakajima-Senpai was waiting for me in the storage room. He was a tall, sport cut boy. With a physique that is expected from a volleyball star.
He is also a third year senpai.
Was he just waiting here all lunch?
“Are you alright? You’ll catch a cold in this temperature. . .”
“I’m good, thank you.”
Looking out the windows, you could see a glimpse of snow.
It’s hard to tell if the sun is out, or it’s covered in snow.
“A-Ah, it’s snowing again. Senpai.”
I tried to break the ice by talking about the weather.
“Yeah, that’s right. Does Yuki-chan like the snow?”
“Eh? Uh, Y-Yeah. I like it. As my name implies.”
“Is that so?”
“Y-Yeah, ahaha.”
“. . . .”
“. . . .”
As I thought. This is awkward and the air immediately dies.
I gambled on the weather but it didn’t pan out.
Senpai’s eyes were already serious. I know what is coming.
“S-So. um. . .You wanted to talk about something?”
In this tense air, my anxious expecting voice came out.
He looked at me closely with cautious eyes.
This. . .Isn’t easy. Natsumi-chan.
Nakajima-Senpai was looking at me carefully.
I’m almost at a loss of words.
Uuuh it’s awkward. That look. . .It’s being pointed at me.”
The air rapidly froze.
Even though it wasn’t hot, We were sweating.
The serious gaze from the good looking Ikemen as he obviously was placing it all on gamble.
The title of volleyball captain was irrelevant.
“Kitahara-san, I’ve been interested in you since you came here. I’ve been conscious of you for a long time.”
Senpai then said.
He has liked me since I transferred.
Whether I was at school or the snow festival. He was always glancing at me.
Huh. . .Why does this hurt?
“Please, go out with me. . .”
“I’m sorry, Nakajima-senpai.”
3 seconds after he said that. I immediately apologized.
. . .
I can’t bear this air.
Should I have hesitated more? Was it too decisive? How should I have dealt with it?
“Huuuh. . .”
Senpai’s shoulders dropped as he was rejected.
I grounded him with my merciless “confession cut.”
His head lowered.
Of course I can’t say that the reason is that I have no intention of dating a man.
Regardless, I doubt I, Yukiya(♂) would be a good “girl”. Suspicion would come.
Of course that truth is beyond the information I can say.
Was I too ruthless? I was a little impatient.
“U-Um. . .Are you okay?”
My senpai was down and depressed. I was a little worried, so I called out to him.
“N, No. I-I’m fine.”
Nakajima-senpai finally raised his face.
And was obviously forcing a smile.
“I-If I may, can you tell me why? Is there somebody you are already dating. . .Or someone you are interested in?”
Of course I don’t. So I shook my head.
“I don’t hate you senpai, but I don’t feel like going out with anyone right now.”
I was going over my answer over and over again all day.
If I hesitate here, I may get distracted and say something I didn’t mean.
Sympathy is prohibited.
It can be hurtful to a boy. . .I repeated in my head.
But I do need to not be harsh with my words. If I’m not careful it could be devastating.
I mean, I was a boy just a few months ago. Just because my body is different now, doesn’t mean I forgot that.
“I see. . .I see. I wonder, does that mean you’ll be looking for a partner eventually?”
“Uh, I-I mean. I guess. . .”
“Until that time comes, I’ll hone myself more to become a good match for Yuki-chan.”
“I-I see. D-Do your best.”
I replied to his awkward reply. I wish I could say a better line, but I couldn’t think of one.
“Then I’m sorry to take up your time. I’ll go now.”
Then he ran out of the storage room as if going into the sunset.
That was an oddly positive leave.
Did the senpai move on that quickly. . ?
I left the empty storage room.
Natsumi-chan was waiting under the stairs as I went towards the classroom.
She waved to me, and I met up with her.
“Fuu. . .”
She put her hand on my shoulder to calm my anxiety.
“Good work, Yukiya-chan. How was it?”
“It’s over.”
Natsumi-chan nodded after I told her what happened.
“Good work.”
I’m exhausted. . .
Up to this point, everything was done with the help by Natsumi-chan.
I was even instructed on what to say and the time. I couldn’t have done it without her help.
Anyways, the battle that began in the morning is finally over.
“. . .Somehow, I’m tired.”
I wonder if girls are more likely exposed to these.
“Is this common?”
“Oh, no. Absolutely not.”
Natsumi-chan then laughed and denied that.
“It’s because Yukiya-chan is cute.”
“I-I see. . .”
I’m not sure about that evaluation.
I just laughed it off. But it seems she was astounded by my lack of awareness.
“I’ve never received that kind of letter. . .”
Natsumi-chan then told me her story, and that she never experienced it, but was using advice she heard from others.
“Is that so.”
There aren’t that many examples. I guess it’s just in the world of games and manga they are common. But it’s just one difficult aspect of the girl world.
Afternoon class was about to begin.
When we went back into the classroom, I felt like I was in a spotlight.
One kid came up and said. “How was it?” “You can tell me.”
But I’m not feeling like talking, I’m really not feeling like it.
I just gave them a simple excuse and sat down.
Although I’m guessing that I will have to deal with this later.
Regardless, it seems that the info of Nakajima-senpai confession and my rejection was the hot topic the next day all through the school. I told Natsumi-chan to not tell anybody, so it’s probably not her. She isn’t a loose lip person.
“Then from who. . ?”
I had no clue.
“Maybe it was from Nakajima-senpai?”
That was Natsumi-chan’s guess.
But does that mean he hasn’t given up? He was even telling people about it?
There are not that many people willing to go on the attack with such zeal even after being shot dead.
I—I don’t get it.
Well, I don’t think so.
However I was annoyed by some of the responses.
“If he isn’t even a match for Yukiya-chan, I wonder what her ideal would be?”
“As expected, from a girl on a totally different level.”
After that, it stirred up some “cool guy” contest in school.
I thought there may be a bit of jealousy that is often the case from girl classmates.
I’m afraid to come to school tomorrow and see in the morning, (Die) (Ugly) or (Don’t get cocky) graffiti on my desk like you’d see in manga.
But I don’t think there is any girl that would actually do that in this school.
Okay I decided to actually just pack these chapters together, and get the confession over with. Doesn’t mean The day is over. It isn’t called “Long Day” for no reason. So the next chapter will continue. I think that last bit is just a bit of extra info for the future.
