–Natsumi-chan. I’m sorry for contacting you so late. Did I surprise you?–
–Geeze, why didn’t you say anything?–
–I’m really sorry.–

I was typing to Natsumi-chan as sweat bead down from my forehead.

–I wanted to see you off at least. But I guess it’s okay because Yuki(♀)-chan said I could message you.–

Oh yeah. Tomonori said Natsumi-chan was about to cry. . .

–How is your life? Have you made any new friends yet?–

–Uhm Yeah. I’m doing fine, for the time being.–

–Is there any cute girls at your school?–

–Well, I don’t know. . .–

–Eh, Is that so (lol) Next time you need to send me a picture too. I want to see you and your friends in the city life.–

What do I do. . ?

I held my head in my palms as I looked at the computer screen.

Since I don’t have a smartphone, I’m exchanging messages with Natsumi-chan on a computer.- – –
And as I imagined. This is impossible.
I don’t even know what lies I can make up. I’ve never lived in the city.
Fortunately I’m supposed to be far away, so she can’t ask me to come and visit her.

“Yukiya-chan!”

It was then I heard the voice from the person herself.

“Y-Yes. One second!”

I put on my prepared sailor suit.
I finally remembered how to tie the scarf around my collar.
I always leave in the morning with Natsumi-chan. As instructed by her. Along with getting strict guidance from her. . .

“Come here. Your scarf is crooked.”
“T-Thank you. . .”

The knot was immediately untied and fixed.
I thought I got it this time. But I failed today as well.
It’s not fun wearing a sailor suit. . .But if I’m going to, I want to atleast do it properly.

“You’re not good at this. But it’s okay, you have others to help you.”

Then she patted me on the back.
Two people walked to school together on a road of hardened snow.

“Yukiya-chan, I talked to Yukiya(♂) yesterday. Thank you for telling me!”
“A-Awesome.”
“I’m relieved to see it’s the same as usual.”
“I-Is that so. Yeah, it seems like not much has changed at all.”

For the most part, things are pretty normal. . .Besides my appearance.

“And I wonder. . .If Yukiya(♂) is getting along with a girl.”
“Hmm, Why do you wonder?”
“Maybe it’s mean to me to say, but those Tokyo kids can be nasty. But . . .”

Natsumi-chan then held her fist tight.

“I won’t forgive those types of people if they bully him. I’ll go over there myself.”
“I-It will be fine.”

This is rough. . .Especially when the person you are talking about is right in front of you.
And Natsumi-chan really wants to help me.

“Good morning, Yukiya-chan.”
“Ah, Good morning, Tomonori.”

Tomonori Saeki caught up from behind us.
He was walking in his school uniform with a coat and muffler over it.
It was common to wear clothes over your uniform.

“?”

Natsumi-chan and Tomonori looked at me in shock.
Did I do something strange? . . .I simply tilted my head.
Then it donned on me. I called Tomonori by his first name, and with no honorifics.
It’s way too familiar. We haven’t even graduated from just being acquaintances yet.

“A, Saeki-kun. . .Is that better?”
“N-No, it’s fine. Tomonori is fine.”

He was clearly embarrassed while saying that.

“I don’t approve.”

Natsumi-chan then interjected.

“Why do you get to decide!?”
“It’s no good, no good. Hey, Yukiya-chan. Please call this person Suzuki-kun.”
“You know that’s not my name.”
“Well, then how about Michael. Or Tom is fine.”
“Those are English names you only see in textbooks.”
“Well it’s appropriate. It’s not worth remembering anyways.”

Nothing has changed between these two.

“By the way Yukiya-chan. What are you doing for club activities?”
“Umm.”

At Hyosei Junior High, clubs are not mandatory, but almost all students join some type of club.

“Ah, What about the ski club? It is famous.”

Of course I know about the ski club. It’s a force to be reckoned with.
They are aiming for the nationals, and are trained by a famous coach.
Practice is tough. Continuing even into the weekend.

“Soft Tennis. . .What about that? Natsumi-chan is a member.”
“I’d be happy to help, but only if you want to. Yukiya-chan?”

Natsumi-chan was still carrying her tennis racket on her back.
The boy’s soft tennis club is for drifters. It’s mainly an athletic club for students who don’t actually feel like going to club activities. I wanted to join, but after hearing that, I wasn’t interested anymore.
In contrast to that, the girl’s soft tennis club is rather enthusiastic about their club activities.

“I really want to. But I have the store. . .”

I can’t leave my parents alone to deal with the store.

“Ah, that’s right. . .Yukiya-chan also does that.”

It was then the sounds of the school bus vroomed by. The loud noise completely overwhelmed us.
From behind we could see male and female students on the bus.
Hyosei Village only has one Junior High School, and it was only formed several years ago after consolidating several middle schools around the area, just to make the scale of investment worth it.
Our school isn’t a small one with only a handful of students, there is a fair amount of students. Besides, those schools are often the subject of news and drama.
However we are relatively tight niche because the scale is small, but some students who attend are actually from further away villages. For those kids there are public school buses that bring them to and from.
By the way, it was Natsumi-chan’s dad who worked to consolidate all the junior high schools and put a big enough budget to afford the public school route.

“!?”

Following the sound of the bus and the chained tires that tread over the snow and ice on the road, was the noise from a new car. A high classed pure black car. The windows were tinted so you couldn’t see inside.
It stopped in front of the school. The driver then got out of the vehicle, and respectfully opened the rear car door.
From the door came Hikura Kouko.

“Kouko-san!”

Some students waved to her.
Then a lot of voices came.

“Good morning! Hikura-san!”
“Kouko-san, good morning. I’ve been waiting.”
“Good morning- – -”

This just feels out of place for a public school.
It’s like what you’d see in a girls’ school in a manga.
There were even admiring students at the school gate.

“Yukiya-chan or Kouko-san. I don’t know which faction to join.”
“Huh? What? Geez those boys.”

She then looked this way.
Her smile then looked different from before.
I know her identity, and she knows mine.

“But. . .I need to be kind to boys too.”

And then she continued to walk towards the classroom and give gracious waves and greeting.
The boys swooned as she waved to them.

“She has ulterior motives. Saeki-kun, be careful around that one.”

I murmured.
I could remember seeing that woman secretly licking her lips, as she did that evil thing on the mountain.

“Yukiya-chan, so cold~”

Now I look like a jealous cold woman.
But it would be Tomonori being the cold one if he gets close to her- – -.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Well another chapter is done. Sorry for the slight delay. I think there is one. But I’m liking the school arc, and I’m starting to second guess whether or not Natsumi knows. She is supposed to be very perceptive. Yet there isn’t really a hint she knows. Maybe asking for a picture is the checkmate move. And after that she will know for sure.
Next chapter in 2-3 days.
