I’ll become a magician

 

Magic — to me, from a world without it, it was a thing to be admired.

Luckily, there is magic here, the most powerful yet, and I want to test it out!

But…..

 

 

” Are~e … ? ”

 

Nothing happened. Was it impossible for a person from another world to do it?

 

“Hmmm…there wasn’t any problem with the spell.”

 

Confused, Mr. Gordon tilted his head to the side. There wasn’t any mistake in the procedure either.

 

The Procedure:

Concentrate on the magic

↓

Imagine it.

↓

Chant the spell.

↓

Invoke ‘force’

This is what it became.

I think it’s normal to think that this was dangerous upon hearing it. Well, isn’t it risky?

Whether it’s possible for it to trigger, even if I said the spell casually while reading it in the book. And yet, the doctor invokes ‘force’ so easily.

It seems more important for me to imagine it.

 

“Is my magical ability so low that I can’t even do it?”

 

Then I think this is an obvious fail. The spell I’m trying to cast is very powerful.

Magic appears to depend on the level of the power you have. So no matter how hard I tried, with my magic portion level low, it’s useless.

I tried the spell again, but a clear effect didn’t seem to appear. Oh, maybe an enchanted stone or charm might be possible for me.

But still.

It might prove to be a problem if the magic gets too difficult to control. Magic lacks the ability to manage itself and so control must be made. In other words, I have to use the magic in accord with my will.

I looked into the open book.

The spell was written in an ancient language call Anshesu, so chanting the spell must be in that language too. Like trying to read a textbook while pronouncing all the words wrong.

 

“Uh…dwell onto my hand and supply the power to temporarily make light…”

“What?!”

 

The doctor stared at me in astonishment. Was it that bad?

 

“You can read it?”

“Yeah, it looks like I can understand every language, since I come from another world.”

 

This was confirmed during our tea time. Hurray for the cheating ability, so there won’t be any language barrier problems!

But because I can’t write and can only read, I’ll have to remember spells. Also talking with the doctor was normal, I guess my words are translated automatically. Since I was talking Japanese myself, the doctor’s word are in Japanese as well.

Absolutely, if the letters are different, the words will be too.

 

“Are the present words, beginner of light?”

“Yes, it is so. ‘Bead of light’”

 

The doctor started to ponder something.

This? The content of this book? Is it really not ‘beginner’?

“To tell you the truth…even if it’s possible to use the magic, we can’t decipher Anshesu.”

“This language, Anshesu, was used in an ancient nation called Anshesu….I don’t know whether if the chant for the spell is exactly right.  It’s an interpretation of the origin of human history and the creation of the world’s languages.”

“But is the way to read this pass on?”

“When the country where Anshesu is associated with fell, the survivors scattered to all parts of the land and became the founders of various countries. At that time, they were able to decipher the language. There were technologies from the Anshesu that still seemed to remain there after the fall.”

 

The doctor said there are remnants as well as varieties of magic remains from Anshesu. A country with a highly advanced civilization can still be of use.

Anshesu is amazing!

…However, they were too great, and the other countries, though they didn’t say it, thought this was difficult to understand. If I’m a child who can read the situation, I can agree.

 

“This means that the spell isn’t exactly clear and correct, and transmitted as it was said, without knowing the meaning of what it said.”

“The spell cannot be fully released until the meaning of the spell is clear, so the right magical ability and the right pronunciation is necessary.”

 

This is an unexpectedly fact revelation. Wait a minute, why is the magical world so irresponsible, using magic without knowing the purpose of spells?!

Like doing your homework and just copying the answer, but not solving the problem itself.

“You see, the majority of the control for magical power mostly comes from chanting the spells. For example, ‘Bead of light’ about the size of my palm.”

Considering that I came from a world without any magic, it was natural for there not to be any magic in me. I would say I was unconsciously rejecting it.

“I see. It’s an idea that I, who understands every language, can maybe do, and pursue the principle of magic! But…”

 

Sensei looked unsure when I said so and stared at my hand.

 

“Probably, it’ll be impossible for a human being in this world. Even if I can be convinced, magic can’t be used by that method. It’s bound to let the magic run out of control.”

“Magicians of this world that relied on spells, do not control it by oneself. If this method is spread carelessly, it’ll cause much trouble.”

“Is there a person who tries and makes magic by themselves?”

“People who assemble magic by themselves are call mage. They just investigate one’s way and don’t show any interest in a position and/or fame.”

 

Apparently, the people who assembled magic by themselves appear to do it at their own pace. It’s kind of like a researcher, which is also found in my world.

 

“And so, as long as I have the knowledge, and won’t be easily identified, wouldn’t I be able to use magic too?”

“Certainly…”

“If perhaps, I get threatened, it may as well be for self-defense. So I have no choice but to become a mage.”

 

A magician who abruptly became a mage of a high position.

I won’t be able to change my job. But if magic can be used like the example I did earlier, I can use magic in various ways. And it was proved to be usable as long as I can imagine it well enough, and this magical power I have should be enough!

Basically, the magic ‘power to do something’, this is perhaps easier to understand.

I can possibly increase the natural healing synthesis ability to reduce the waste and slow down the time of decomposition and synthesis in the chemical formula of the magic cure. I can use this to reduce the consumption to fire or water elements in the magic cure, thereby using less magic to make the cure.

…..But I will likely die if I mistake the potential of this power.

Okay, I have to become a mage at once!

At the most part, it seems to be that this magic is magic only I can use, but this is sufficient enough for me to live….!

I didn’t think my knowledge on a wide variety of subjects and physical sciences would be useful in the magic world. It’s quite unexpected.

 

 

“You are from a different world and speak of magic hearsay. Try to blend into the background as much as possible.”

 

The doctor, who was looking at the excited me with warmth, tightened his expression, and warned me.

Is he trying to say ‘don’t do anything strange’ indirectly?

Well, in a sense, I’m like a rare animal. An uncontrollable risk. Possibly the magic world may have limitations and bigotry in various ways. This time, I’ll listen to what the doctor has to say.

 

“For the time being, learn some common sense from me, and if something happens, I hope you don’t hesitate to listen to me.”
