Riley’s horse was a stunning stallion with a dark bay coat. I remembered him riding that horse during the parade.
Although I had wondered what happened to the horse since he didn’t bring it to the tavern, Riley informed me he intended on returning it to the army.
“I don’t need such a fine horse for my return to Tobol,” said Riley at that time.
According to him, many people would jump to be its next owner, fine horse that it was. But upon hearing this, I wanted to heave a big sigh.
Even if the horse was willing to accept a new owner, would anyone have the courage to take the hero’s partner?
Though Chescal was bigger than the average horse, he had a gentle temper. Still, according to Riley, Chescal had accompanied him all the way to the demon territory. It was pretty shocking.
“Chescal, please take care of me from now on, okay?” I said, flashing it a warm smile. When it’s all said and done, this was Riley’s long-time partner and protector.
Yet in the middle of it, I felt a steely glance from beside me.
Recently, Riley had shot such a look at me often. Like when I was talking with the customers at the tavern or with Mister Elmer.
I had tried to coax what was wrong out of him, but as always, he would maintain that nothing was wrong. His gaze told a different story, however…
I turned to greet the mare beside Chescal. “Cindy, please take care of me too.”
Smaller than Chescal, Cindy had a dark chestnut mane and sharp eyes. My horse for the entirety of my journey to Tobol.
Cindy neighed, rubbing its head against my hand.
Relieved that Cindy was gentle as well, I recalled the day I visited Mister Kenneth.
