Neptune’s expression turned sour. “I am the Emperor!”
Gu Zhong lifted his chin and smiled scornfully. “I am referring to the legitimate ruler, not an usurper.”
Neptune angrily kicked a chair, his eyes shooting fire. “You dare betray me?!”
“Your Majesty!” Prime Minister Lu stood up and said, “I have seen everything that happened just now. Since his Highness Payne is so certain about his claims, so much so to bet his life on them, there must be something we don’t know about the former ruler’s death. Please let the maid finish.”
“No need!” Cassia wiped away the tears on her face. Standing up, she proudly lifted her chin. “Ask me whatever you want.”
Neptune was shocked and grabbed her arm, “Cassia, even you’re going to betray me?”
Suddenly, he felt a burning sensation from his internal organs. A sweet scent appeared in his throat and a drop of blood slowly trickled from the corner of his mouth.
Neptune immediately understood what was going on. He covered his heart and pointed at the wine on the table, looking incredulously at Cassia, “You poisoned the wine?!”
When he said that, all the ministers felt danger and hurriedly put down any wine they were having, afraid that they would also be poisoned.
“Yes, the sins happened because of me, so I should be the one to end it.” Cassia’s voice was sad and tired. “I couldn’t stop you from harming the former ruler, but I will not stand by and do nothing as you hurt my child. We’ve committed many unforgivable crimes, and I’ve always felt guilty, unable to sleep at night. Now, I can finally free myself.”
