Chapter 2 – The Trigger \nVolume 1\n<hr class="wp-block-separator is-style-wide">\nAs soon as the second-period class was over, Nishikawa and Fujisaki came to my seat. As it turns out, they had some thoughts about Enam-san’s behavior in class today.  I made my way to the stair landing as I had done before.\n
As soon as I reached the landing, I bowed my head.\n
“Sorry! Both of you! I left without permission last week.”\n
In the end, I hadn’t been able to apologize until now. In the morning, I pretended that I hadn’t noticed that they had come to school. I was afraid to go and apologize.\n
“No, it’s fine!~ Don’t worry about it, Naochi.”\n
Fujisaki nodded at Nishikawa’s words.\n
“It’s totally fine. I was a little surprised, but you were acting out of consideration for Enami-san. I don’t think you have to apologize so much.”\n
I was relieved that neither of them seemed to be angry. They may have had some inner feelings, but they didn’t seem to be at a level that would damage our relationships.\n
“I’m so sorry! I won’t let that happen again. ….. By the way, wasn’t Enami-san mad at you after that?”\n
Nishikawa and Fujisaki looked at each other.\n
“I’m not sure about that either.”\n
Fujisaki’s face was a little puzzled.\n
“That’s right. Risa-chan left right after that, too.”\n
“Eh?”\n
So that’s what happened. But if that’s the case, doesn’t that mean she’s angry?\n
As if sensing my question, Nishikawa immediately answered.\n
“I don’t think she was mad at you. I know because I talk to her a lot. When she’s angry, her brow wrinkles more and she clicks her tongue more bluntly.”\n
“Clicking tongue……”\n
But still, I can easily imagine it with Enami-san.\n
“That’s what I am telling you, she didn’t do that. Risa-chan was thinking about something after that. Then she suddenly got up from her seat as if she was in a hurry. She left her bag and phone behind as if she wasn’t completely there at the moment.”\n
“……What does that mean?”\n
I don’t get it.\n
“That’s my line! I delivered the bag and the phone to Risa-chan’s house, but even then, she just replied with a simple ‘ah’ or something like that, like she was thinking about something else the whole time.”\n
The mystery deepened further and further. I thought she was just angry, but I wondered if there was something in her heart that was troubling her.\n
“And when I came to school today, I found out this… She’s not late, she’s looking ahead in class, she’s answering the teacher’s questions seriously, and I don’t know what the hell is going on!”\n
Well, usually, those actions are quite normal.\n
But even Nishikawa, who is supposed to be closest to her, doesn’t understand. If she’s not angry, her behavior toward me is first of all puzzling.\n
“I feel the same way. I was surprised by many things today. I don’t know why the teacher thanked me, but I didn’t do anything special.”\n
“……….I wonder if it was a whim or a sincere conversion. If it’s the former, I can still understand, but if it’s the latter, is it because of me?”\n
“I think it probably is.”\n
I’m afraid that I have no idea what Enami-san is thinking. I’m the only one who’s being watched. It didn’t seem like she was giving Fujisaki or Nishikawa any strange looks.\n
“In any case, I guess we’ll just have to keep an eye on Risa-chan. I’ll ask around, but don’t get your hopes up too much.”\n
That’s right. I think it’s best to leave it to Nishikawa for now. It’s no use for me to be thinking about it.\n\n
Lunch break.\n
Me, Saito, and Shindo were sitting around the desk eating our lunch as usual. After that, Enami-san didn’t look at me for a while. However, she seemed to be taking her classes seriously, and even when I peeked at her once in a while, she was still looking at the blackboard in front of her.\n
“That was unsettling.”\n
Saito said, rolling a dried plum seed on his tongue. Naturally, the topic was Enami-san.\n
“I didn’t expect her to suddenly become so serious. You don’t think that Shiroyama’s call before had any effect on her, do you? She looked furious when she came back to the classroom, and she didn’t seem to listen to the teacher very well.”\n
“…… I don’t care about that delinquent. It’s not a big deal anyway.”\n
Shindo didn’t seem to like Enami-san very much either. The same was true in the morning, but when the subject of Enami-san came up, he was blatantly disgusted.\n
Saito nodded his head in agreement.\n
“Well, it’s not our concern. We have to be careful not to get involved.”\n
With that, he picked up his chopsticks and froze. His eyes seemed to be looking over my head and further back.\n
–What is it?\n
Eventually, Shindo froze, looking in the same direction as Saito. I was curious, so I looked back behind me.\n
“……eh”\n
There was Enami-san. She was standing there silently, looking down at us.\n
“……”\n
I couldn’t help but clam up. I don’t know why these things keep happening to me.\n
Enami-san said.\n
“Hey”\n\n
The words were directed at me.\n\n
