Chapter 2 – The Trigger\n Volume 1 \n<hr class="wp-block-separator is-style-wide">\nDuring the morning Short HR, Shiroyama-sensei also noticed something “strange”. When he took attendance, he usually just checked with his eyes that she hadn’t shown up, but when he saw Enami-san sitting in that seat, he said her name out loud.\n
“Enami.”\n
At that moment, the eyes of the entire class turned towards Enami-san. But even with all those eyes on her, she seemed unperturbed.\n
“Yes.”\n
I almost let out a squeal of admiration at this casual and normal reply. Even Shiroyama-sensei froze for a few seconds.\n
It was the first time in a long time that I had seen him exchange words properly. He was either ignored or brushed off coldly. The whole class knew that this was not a normal situation.\n\n
And the second period. Mathematics – Shiroyama-sensei’s class.\n
As usual, the class proceeded unhurriedly. As we started a new unit, the theory was carefully explained. Eventually, after explaining the examples and solving the practice problems, Shiroyama-sensei’s hand stopped.\n
On the blackboard, the only notation was “Exercise 1. The sound of the chalk, which had been ringing briskly, ceased. The teacher turned around with the chalk in his hand. I somehow knew that Enami-san was in the teacher’s line of sight.\n
Then, suddenly, he said.\n
“Enami.”\n
The whole classroom was filled with a sense of tension. I also held my breath.\n
“Come to the front and try to solve this exercise.”\n
The teacher rarely asks for Enami-san., because he knows it won’t turn out well anyway. The teacher must have sensed the potential in today’s Enami-san.\n
I looked at Enami-san cautiously. She was looking blankly ahead with her hand in cheekbones. When she realized that she was being pointed at, she widened her eyes and pulled her face away from her hand. She pointed her index finger at herself and looked puzzled.\n
“Yes. You. It doesn’t matter if you can’t answer correctly. It doesn’t matter if you don’t get it right, just think about it in your own way and write down the answer that you think is right. I’ll give you some advice.”\n
The usual Enami-san would never follow such instructions. “What? or “Why? and eventually she would get angry. The teacher seemed to be intimidated as well.\n
However, today’s Enami-san was different.\n
She stood up quietly with her textbook. She walked forward with a relaxed gait. She passed by me and walked up to the podium.\n

Enami-san was silent. She’s just staring at the teacher. I wondered if she would say something that would make the teacher angry again.\n
“Chalk.”\n
She put her hand out in front of her. Then the teacher, in a flash, hands the chalk to  Enami-san.\n
As the teacher moved to the edge, Enami-san held the chalk in front of the blackboard. I will give you some advice.\n
It was not that difficult, since we’ve just started a new unit. If I had solved it, I could have answered it in thirty seconds. However, it seemed to be difficult for Enami-san and she was stuck in some parts.\n
“Here it is

.”\n
Each time, the teacher would interject some advice. She nodded her head without any annoyance and reflected the advice in her answer.\n
About five minutes passed. Enami-san arrived at the correct answer.\n
“Okay, you can go back.”\n
I wondered if this was a dream or something, but Enami had listened to the teacher and solved the math problem.\n
As she walked off the podium and back to her seat, Enami-san paused beside my seat. She looked at me and gave me a small smile.\n

–eh?\n\n
It wasn’t that she was talking to me or anything. It was just that instead of a friendly smile, she had a smug smile on her face, as if to say, “Well, I did it!”.\n
I was at a loss for a response and blinked repeatedly.\n
Soon Enami-san returned to her usual expressionless face and walked past.\n
I tried my best to run through my frozen thoughts and try to grasp the current situation. Still, I had no idea what was going on. After all, had that thing in the morning been a greeting to me? Why in the world?\n\n
The teacher immediately resumed the class.\n
“Now, for the next exercise, I want you to solve it, Ookusu.”\n
Before I knew it, the words “Exercise 2” were written on the blackboard. I stood up in a panic.\n
When I got the chalk from the teacher, he whispered to me.\n
“You guys talked her into it, didn’t you? Thank you.”\n\n
Apparently, the teacher thought it was thanks to us. But I had no idea why Enami-san was suddenly so serious. I gave him a bitter smile.\n
I quickly solved the problem and was about to go back to my seat when I noticed that Enami-san was looking at me. Her expression said, “Hmm, you’re doing great”.\n\n
I let out a breath. Calm down. I don’t know why Enami-san is acting in such a meaningful way. But this is a trap. The action I took last week must have angered Enami-san. So it must be a negative result for me in the end.\n
Anyway, I’ll just do what I always do. She might do something to confuse me, but I’ll keep my cool about it all.\n\n
That’s what I thought.\n\n
