Chapter - 41

A Springtime Proposal (4)

My eyes went wide when I saw it. I had just asked Sensei to give me permission to continue adventuring in the dungeon despite all the dangers. I was perhaps already ready to fight against a ‘NO’.

But Sensei’s answer just below my question was not at all within my expectations.

[You can go exploring, but you need to take me with you.]

“Wha―, Sensei, are you serious?” I was caught off guard. I was never prepared or gave a thought to having a companion before on my adventures.

Shaking her head up and down in response to my outburst, she immediately turned away after answering. Was she blushing while proposing this herself? Since this meant that we were going to spend longer times alone together.

Her hand pulls on the piece of paper and she writes another sentence.

[It’s a Teacher’s Responsibility to keep her students safe.]

“……..”With a deep sigh, I understood what she meant at once. I knew her feelings for helping me were strong but to go with me to explore dangers was not what a normal person would choose to do.

Beating me to the punch, Sensei pulls on the paper and begins writing beneath the previous sentence.

Suddenly moving with quickness she pushes the paper back in front of me again.

[I’m definitely coming. I’ll be going to Saino’s house, every day after school from today.]

“Eeh?……” An involuntarily surprised gasp leaks from my mouth.

It’s a good thing that she’ll keep the labyrinth a secret, but to insist on tagging along like this is a bit troublesome.

Sure, two people are better than one person, but still……..

“It’s still dangerous, you know?”I protested.

[It’s because it’s dangerous that I’m coming along.]

The sentence she wrote was enough to make me shut up, as I couldn’t retort back.

Since everything Sensei pointed out was reasonable.

Also choosing to write put up a barrier for me to be able to deny her and ultimately lost this negotiation.

So I won the battle but lost the war… in the end.

Aww man……. She’s so……..

I thought deeply and could find no alternative way when she was not going to take NO for an answer. This is probably the most Sensei would compromise with me.

“Alright, I understand. We can start this tomorrow. Since there will be a lot to prepare.” I insisted.

After hearing what I had to say, Sensei nods silently.

I couldn’t really see her face, but she seems kind of happy. I wonder if it’s related to being able to go exploring with me. And that also somehow made me glad to see her happy and grant her request.

Sensei’s a little carefree, but she should know there will be monster battles too.

But wait…. How am I going to handle the matter with the items? I’ll need to come up with a plan or something by tomorrow. If Sensei’s been charmed this much, there’s no possible way she would expose our secret.

“In that case, I’ll be going home, Sensei. Please excuse me.”

For the time being, my purpose of coming here has been settled, so I bowed and made my way to the exit. Sensei was still facing away from me. Having nothing else to say, I left the faculty staff room, but there was this lingering feeling inside of me.

I already agreed to her proposal that she would explore the dungeon together with me. But how can we both go exploring together if she won’t look me in the face?

Well, that was later to figure it out for the next day, since I had other plans for today.

Immediately making it home, I readied myself as I stood before the underground labyrinth. I wasn’t wearing my usual exploration outfit, but not going to lie it’s a bit tacky wearing my everyday school clothes while exploring down.

I ran at full speed making my way into the stone corridor. Because this time I had my worn-out sports shoes, traversing atop the stone halls felt a bit different from usual. But it wasn’t that bad, as these were easier to move in.

Eventually, the stair that led to the first floor came into view. After a slight pause, I decided to go down the steps a little at a time. Anxious, my hands felt a little sweaty as I trembled lightly. But I couldn’t keep calm.

Walking into a monster’s den without equipment or weapons was just suicide. Even with the torches lining the walls I could still defend myself from the danger ahead, but this time I’ve chosen not to fight.

….. because I needed to confirm something, just to be sure.
