Hey lovely people,
As promised, hereâs chapter 76.\n
Nothing else to say.\n
Enjoy the read.
Yours truly,\n
\n
â
My Battle Prowess
I have Sherry stay at home with Roxanne and leave for Harubaâs labyrinth by myself.\n
Iâll be taking them to 11th floor later.\n
Earlier, after parting with the duke and Cassia, I Warped from Harubaâs labyrinth to home just like that, so itâll be awkward to bring Roxanne and Sherry this time.\n
When I move out of the small room on 1st floor, I find Gozer.
âOh, Michio-dono. Are you entering the labyrinth?â
He asks immediately upon seeing me.\n
This timing, albeit coincidence, is perfect.\n
Thatâs right, I intend to enter Harubaâs labyrinth.
Hereâs the proof that I entered one of the duchyâs labyrinths.
However, some people saw me at Tareâs and Bodeâs labyrinths which may lead to inconsistency.\n
But thereâs no need to be worried.\n
For thereâs no such thing as image capturing or video recording in this world.
âAnd why might Gozer-dono be in this part of the labyrinth?â
âWe have just cleared 41st floor.â\n
âThatâs great.â
Woah!\n
As I thought, a Grand Wizard Lv61 is in completely different league.\n
If battle prowess could be measured, his would surely be over one million.
People accompanying Gozer must be his party members.\n
Is this the party thatâs representing the order of Harz duchy knights and leading the exploration?\n
Two Holy Knights, a Monk and a Shamon.\n
Shamon?
All the members are high level.\n
The Monkâs level in particular exceeds 90.\n
Because I have Monk job myself, I know itâs not an advanced job like Holy Knight or Grand Wizard.
Furthermore, theyâre all elves.\n
Theyâre all good looking.\n
It hurts people like me who are not good looking.
âAre you leaving already?â\n
âI was here only to get a hang of this labyrinth. Iâll be back with my party members.â\n
âI can have a member of my party guide you if you want.â
Gozer offers assistance.\n
Is he really that caring?\n
He must have a reason to be here on such a low floor as this.\n
The more I talk to him, the more he looks suspicious.
âAh, thank you. Iâll be moving to 10th or 11th floor.â
Although I was thinking so, why wouldnât I accept such an offer?\n
Even if Iâll be exposing the floor Iâll be exploring, I canât afford to miss such an opportunity.\n
I was planning to challenge 11th floor but Iâll now be taking on 10th.
âAh, youâre here. Well then, which floor would you like to go to? 10th and 11th?â
An Adventurer and an Explorer appear out of entrance.\n
The Adventurer asks Gozer.
âLet me confirm first.â
The Explorer takes out the map of the labyrinth.\n
He seems to be confirming something.
âYes, 10th and 11th floors.â\n
âPlease allow him to guide you. Can you add him to your party?â
Asks Gozer.\n
Is this Adventurer Lv53 a member of Gozerâs party?\n
When I add the Adventurer to my party, the Explorer leaves.
âJust to confirm, forty two silver coins for 42nd floor, right?â
They really seem to have reached 42nd floor.\n
When I entered the labyrinth, they were probably leaving.\n
Apparently, Itâll work if I put him in my party and call for 42nd floor in my mind.
Our party of two moves to 10th floor.\n
Adventurers can not use Dungeon Walk.\n
We proceed to 11th floor and go back outside.
âThank you very much for guiding me.â\n
âWell then, Michio-dono, take care.â
I give my thanks to Gozer as well and leave.\n
I return home through a tree nearby.
âWhen we enter the labyrinth, can we choose the floor?â\n
âAdventurer and Explorer can do it, yes.â
I check out Sherryâs level. Sheâs Explorer Lv11.\n
Explorer and Adventurer can choose which floor to enter, it seems.\n
So, Gozerâs actions earlier were not suspicious.
I take Roxanne and Sherry to 10th floor of Harubaâs labyrinth.
âLetâs start with 10th floor.â\n
âUmm⌠the monster on 10th floor of Harubaâs labyrinth is NT Ant.â\n
âPoison huh? Well, we are exploring this labyrinth for the first time, so itâs better to start with lower floor. Roxanne, search.â\n
âUnderstood.â
We proceed under Roxanneâs guidance.\n
After all, I can take an NT Ant Lv10 out with three Waterballs.
Itâs not our first time facing them.\n
Itâll be alright.\n
Even in itâs a group, I can take it out.\n
Do you think three ants can kill a dinosaur? Nah.
Escape Goat appears as well on 10th floor of Harubaâs labyrinth.\n
It seems to be native to 9th floor of this labyrinth.\n
Escape Goat Lv10 starts running away after three magic attacks.\n
Same old pattern. Boring.
âIâll chase it, Roxanne-san. You capture it.â\n
Without saying any such thing, I take it out with three magic attacks.\n
Nothing seems out of place on 10th floor of Harubaâs labyrinth.\n
We can take on 10th floor without any trouble.
Iâm itching to test how capable our new equipment are but itâs not a good idea to receive an antâs attack for that reason alone.\n
I wonât have them receive attacks intentionally.\n
When we reach 11th floor, Weâll be receiving attacks from Minos anyway.
âWe seem to be doing fine on 10th floor. Letâs move on to 11th?â\n
âOkay.â
We proceed to 11th floor.\n
To take a Mino Lv11 out, seven magic attacks are required.\n
Because battles will be long, Sherry will receive an attack sooner or later.
Although I was thinking so, I was the first to receive an attack in Harubaâs labyrinth.\n
While I was recovering my MP through Durandal, I couldnât avoid the incoming attack and received Minoâs ram with my body.\n
It was my first time tasting it.\n
I was made to look like a fool.
Itâs quicker to take out NT Ants and Escape Goats.\n
Seven magic attacks are required in total while four are required to come in close contact.\n
Mino is the main monster of 11th floor but that doesnât mean there will always be groups of four Minos.\n
If there are three or less Minos, Roxanne can handle two while Sherry can take on one.
Even if I were to fight one-on-one, I wouldnât get attacked easily provided Iâm careful.\n
While I was thinking so, I ready Durandal. However, Itâs an NT Ant this time. It tries to attack me.\n
Iâll never allow an insect to attack me.
After I take many out with Durandal, Sherry finally comes under attack.\n
NT Ant, Mino, NT Ant, Mino. A group of four monsters appears.\n
When I was moving on to next NT Ant after taking out first NT Ant with Rush, Sherry receives a head-butt from Mino.\n
The direction I was charging into and the direction Sherry was escaping to happened to be same, so she couldnât avoid it.
âMy bad. I blocked your way.â
After I take it out, I say to Sherry.
âNot at all. I should have known you were moving in that direction. It was careless of me.â
In other words, I did block her way.\n
I receive the item and cast Heal.
âHow was the monsterâs attack after equipping chainmail?â\n
âDamage was definitely light. Thank you, Iâm fine now.â
Two Heals were enough.\n
Much or less, the damage has surely decreased.
âWill we be able to clear 11th floor of Quratarâs labyrinth now?â\n
âWe wonât know unless we try.â
Although we have upgraded our equipment, the question remains.\n
And we wonât have the answer unless we try.
That said, we can still predict based on how we perform on 11th floor of Harubaâs labyrinth.\n
Even if there are strong and weak points of monsters, there isnât much difference in overall strength at a given level.\n
Because the battles were long, we spent all morning exploring 11th floor of Harubaâs labyrinth.\n
We took a little break in the afternoon and then resumed the exploration.
âI went to 13th floor of Tareâs labyrinth. The monster there is Rub Shrub that drops the item which Sherry needs to make the equipment next in order.â\n
âYes, thatâs right.â
We enter 1st floor of Tareâs labyrinth.\n
As a precaution, I bring Durandal out and add sixth job to be able to use both Alchemistâs Plating and Warriorâs Rush.\n
Having applied Plating, I recover my MP on 1st floor.
We should be ready now.\n
Itâs only two floors higher, so it shouldnât be that dangerous.\n
If push comes to shove, Iâll use Rush with Durandal.\n
Having completed all preparations, we finally set foot on 13th floor.
âSo, what kind of monster this Rub Shrub is?â\n
âI have never fought against it myself but I heard it uses long-range attacks. It shoots its branches from distance. Its weakness is fire type magic.â
Ranged attacks?\n
Monsters onward from 12th floor should be stronger than those from 1st floor to 11th.\n
And it seems to be weak against fire type magic.
âFire type magic huh? Well, Iâll get to use different magic now. Roxanne, search for monsters.â
I send Roxanne out.\n
We proceed under the guidance of Roxanne.\n
Two monsters appear.
Rub Shrub Lv13
Rub Shrub Lv13
It looks like a tree. Itâs smaller in size than Needle Wood.\n
Its root is smaller than and shaped differently from Needle Wood.\n
It looks totally like a tree.
Its movement speed appears to be slow.\n
It is slow.\n
So, I have to use fire magic this time?
Oh well.\n
There are two of them but thatâs alright.\n
Telling the number from smell is difficult.
âHere it comes.â
It shoots magic. Roxanne dodges.\n
Something comes in from there where Roxanne was standing.
âRoxanne-san, please be more considerate.â\n
Itâs good to dodge and all but there may be someone standing behind.\n
Itâs not good for a vanguard to suddenly disappear from in front in a dark labyrinth.\n
A brown object passes right by me.
Oh shit!\n
I couldnât move even one millimeter.\n
There are times when itâs dangerous to have Roxanne around.\n
Letâs forget it for now. Iâm dying here!
Is this the ranged attack of Rub Shrub?\n
To compensate for lack of movement speed, it has long-range attack?\n
It was a really cool attack nonetheless.
Damn it!\n
Is this divine retribution?
To think I would die to an attack of an ordinary Rub Shrub.\n
Before I die, however, Iâll show you the best I have got.\n
Iâll show you my best magic. My ultimate magic. My true power.
âFeel honored, for youâre the first to witness this magic. Heed my call, descend from far end of unending universe, crush all to nothingness â Meteor Crash!â
I use bonus spell.\n
Meteor Crash.\n
Itâs the same spell which I wasnât able to use earlier.
Now that I have raised my level, I should be able to use it.\n
No, I must be able to use it.\n
For I have used it.
I can feel my MP decreasing considerably.\n
Success!\n
My MP is almost used up. The magic materializes.\n
I have finally succeeded!
Over my head, appear burning rocks.\n
Meteorite. Lit by red hot lava.\n
It dyes the cave red.
The red hot meteorite strikes the ground.\n
The cave starts to get filled up.\n
It starts to accumulate.\n
One. Two.
Roaring sound could be heard as it cuts its way through the air.
âEh?â\n
âWhat?â
A huge rock goes past dumbstruck Roxanne and Sherry.\n
Theyâre fine. It didnât hit them.\n
Because I didnât choose a target, Meteor Crash struck entire area.\n
Although it struck entire area, for some reason, it didnât hit people.\n
Roxanne and Sherry are safe.
Roxanne dodged it herself.\n
Sherry, however, couldnât. It grazed Sherryâs head. Surprisingly, it didnât inflict any damage.
The huge rock advances.\n
The huge rock advances leaving marks and sparks behind.\n
It illuminates the cave.
It crashes into the Rub Shrubs.\n
The meteorite completely smashes the two Rub Shrubs.
Plank
Plank
Silence ensues. Thereâs neither the meteorite nor the monsters.\n
What remained were two planks.\n
One hit?\n
Like I thought, bonus spells are truly powerful.
âWhat was that just now?â\n
âNew magic attack.â\n
âMaster has such powerful magic. As expected of master.â\n
âB-But one hit?â
Seven magic attacks are required to take out Lv11 monsters.\n
Considering that, you can figure out how powerful Meteor Crash was.\n
But Rub Shrubs are weak against fire type magic.\n
Because meteorite was burning red, it might be fire type magic attack.
Still, it was unexpectedly powerful. I might have overdone it.\n
âA-Amazing!â
At the same time, it took considerable MP.\n
Too much.\n
I seem to have used too much of my MP.
After recovering some MP on 1st floor of Tareâs labyrinth, I move to 11th floor of Harubaâs labyrinth to recover rest of my MP.\n
Moving between two floors of same labyrinth is less taxing than moving between two labyrinths.\n
However, only one Lv1 monster appears on 1st floor, so recovery takes too long.
After recovering MP on 11th floor of Harubaâs labyrinth, I return to 13th floor of Tareâs labyrinth.\n
I want to try Durandal this time.\n
If I feel I canât take them out, Iâll just have them eat Meteor Crash.
âOnce more. Search for small groups.â
Under Roxanneâs guidance, we find a lone Rub Shrub.\n
Exactly what I wanted.\n
I raise Durandal and charge.\n
If I donât do it quickly, itâll shoot its branch.
Before I could close the distance, it shoots its branch.\n
I could see orange-colored magic but I was unable to dodge.\n
The branch hits my chest where I have my leather jacket on.\n
What an impact.
It hurts!\n
Such power, even though I was covered with Plating.\n
Because it came to a stop, I charge to close the distance\n
I have no time to apply Plating again.
I raise the sword high up, activate Rush and strike it down on the Rub Shrub.\n
Itâs not dead after one strike.\n
I use Rush again.
Itâs much stronger than I expected.\n
Iâm surprised.\n
Someone exists in this world who can take two Rush attacks and still be alive.
Even two Rush attacks couldnât get rid of it.\n
While it begins to launch another attack, I swing my sword from the side.\n
Third Rush.\n
The Rub Shrub collapses.
Three Rush attacks?\n
One Rush can take out a Lv11 monster.
How can a monster be three times stronger with a difference of only two floors?\n
I wonder if the difference of strength between monsters of 11th and 12th floors is great as well.\n
So, monsters of 11th floor are small fries?\n
Probationary period is over.
Well, if theyâre few, I can make do with Durandal.\n
We can hunt some more on 13th floor.\n
Iâll give them slow death, if thatâs want they want.
âHow many planks do you need?â\n
âFive to six should suffice for now.â
Six huh?\n
We have collected three so far.\n
Alright, Iâm ready. Letâs get three more.
Another Rub Shrub comes out and shoots magic.\n
Itâs comparatively more difficult to take it out using Durandal.\n
Magic attack is better.\n
This time, Iâll turn it to smithereens.
âAnnihilate.â
I call for Gamma Ray Burst in my mind.\n
Itâs another bonus spell beside Meteor Crash.\n
Meteor Crash isnât the only bonus spell I have.\n
Whether itâs fire type magic or not, I donât know. But what I do know is that itâs a Lv13 monster.
And⌠Nothing happens.
My MP is seemingly not enough for Gamma Ray Burst.\n
Even though my level is fairly high.\n
Does it need even more MP than Meteor Crash?\n
Well, even Meteor Crash took almost all of my MP. It probably needs only slightly more.
