After a long and tumultuous day, we get a brief moment of reprieve.\n“Who the heck said that there were going to be less people today!!”\nI vented out my frustrations to no one in particular. Numerous amounts of customers entered the maid café today, a lot more compared to yesterday. Even now customers were lining up outside the shop waiting for it to reopen.

“Aah, what do we do!? We don’t have enough food to cook plus we can’t do it fast enough!”

The head of the kitchen finally cracked. 

“No matter how much we make it’s never enough! The heck is wrong with this shop It’s like I was hired for a new part time or something!”

We were so busy that the lines muddled between this being a gig for a school festival and actual work.\n“Now that it’s come to this we have to narrow down the menu.”\n“Narrow it down?”\n“I’m not a fan of it, but we have no choice. Something to cook and something that takes a lot of work to make, let’s get our priorities straight and remove items off the menu”\n“I have to agree, now that we’ve reached this point there’s no other way………”\n“Yeah….”\nAnd then the door was rattled wide open.\n“I’ve listened in on long enough! The menu I made is a gem that I polished numerous times with all my might! You can’t just mess with i- *Gahack*!”

In the middle of his speech, Hiyama-san closed the door with all her might with Kiryu’s nose getting caught in it.”

“Now then, I’ll  quickly go over the menu and strike things off. Hashiba-kun, go explain the situation to the waiting customers and post a memo while you’re at it. You got that?”\n“Yes ma’am”\n 

After the break, we reopened the café. Hiyama-san’s menu modifications went by without a hitch so I check it over and start explaining to the waiting crowd.\n“I apologize for the changes in the menu but we had to do it due to the lack of ingredients.”\nThere was a bit of disappointment but everyone seemed to agree. If it was any other store some customers might’ve come out with complaints about this or that but, since them being here for the maids and this being a school festival helped a ton.\n“Time to put up a notice…. Huh?”\nWhen I turned around to go back to the store.

“This seems to be a bad time……”\nStrangely enough I met a flustered Kawasegawa.\n“I see you came to the festival.”

“Why, you think it’s so unlike me right?”

She speaks out her signature template lines.\n“It’s not like that. It’s just that I didn’t think you would come here if you didn’t have to, Kawasegawa”\n“….So that really is the image you have of me. Well It’s true that I won’t though.”\nSaying her complaints, she opens up a pamphlet.\nThey’re having a screening of “The Demons Banquet”* It’s not every day you get an opportunity like it, so I didn’t want to miss it, that’s why.”

(TN- It’s Japanese name looks to be a reference of “Kichiku Dai Enkai” with the “official” translation being banquet of the beasts. It’s a debut as a Director by a then 22-23 year old Kazuyoshi Kumakiri released in 1997, it’s set in the mountains of Karuizawa(Which I will once again say it has an incredible hot spring so try going there in winter) in the Nagano prefecture, It has a very macabre ,sexual, and horrorl themes with over the top levels of gore and I mean over the top like last 10 min of “The Audition”(1999 Japanese lifetime scarring horror film with a yandere you don’t want anywhere near you) levels. I’ve watched a huge chunk of it and I’ll tell you this now if the name hasn’t already tipped you off, it is absolutely N-O-T for the faint of heart so save yourself from the mental scarring and I advise you to look at picture of cute cats and dogs instead of letting curiosity get the better of you. The reference is likely correct as Director Kazuyoshi is an alumni of Osaka Geidai.  And one last note to dissuade you from your possible horror craving I may have put you into here’s the original music video for a my chemical romance song for spoilers without context as the video was based on Audition(1999

“Ah, so you plan to watch that too?”

“Someone else was interested in it? Well it is a pretty good choice”\nI’ll just keep quiet about the person being Tsurayuki. They’re both serious when it comes to these kinds of things, they really should be talking about it with each other.\n“And… I’ve also come here to give my word of apology”

“To Nanako?”

Kawasegawa nodded.\n“After all, I haven’t said anything to her since then, and a certain someone persuaded me to continue being with the team so I didn’t want there to be any lingering hard feelings.”\n“You’re overthinking things. And besides, I don’t think there’s any need for you to apologize.”\n“How so?”

“Because of that, Nanako started to take her singing seriously. It was your words that jumpstarted it.”

Even though it was a little too direct, in hindsight, the shock therapy worked. Nanako understood that, which is why she agreed to Kawasegawa’s words.\n“Then coming here was just a waste of effort on my part then.”

“I wouldn’t go that far”

“That’s good for me. I won’t  have to force myself to eat overflowing cutie cute pancakes then”

She could at least stay for a drink…Of course not…..\nShe’s sometimes weird, clumsy with certain things, and an amusing kind of girl. She really is.\n“Someday, you’ll get to hear Nanako sing.”\n“If she really has reached that point, that is.”\nKawasegawa gives a nod and folds the pamphlet into the bag.\n“Well then It’s close to screening time so I’ll be going”\n“Would you be coming tomorrow?”\n“I’m not sure. If I have to, I will”

She said it with lines that is quite typical of her\n“Then, till next time”\nWith her usual candor and a flip of a skirt, she left.\n\n
