Chapter 137 \n
Chapter 137 â SOUMA YUUTO
\nâOioi, no fucking way!?â
âThe flying fuck is this!?â
âAre my eyes fucking with me? Tell me Iâm not seeing Souma over thereâ
Â
He looked the very image of Souma Yuuto. To the level that if you told me the hero extraordinaire suddenly teleported inside the cloud creature and literally burst out from inside, Iâd actually believe it.
But the entity himself had announced otherwise.
Guardian beast: SOUMA YUUTO.
What I wonât believe though is that there already existed a guardian with a perfectly coincidental perfect matching name. The most likely possibility isââ
Â
âDonât get distracted guys. I think, heâs something that cloud creature evolved toâ
âE-evolved? What, do you mean by that, Momokawa-kun?â
âI mean that when that thing tried to attack Reina, she turned the tables by taking control of it with some Spirit Master power. Maybe with a skill to dominate monsters and another to make them evolve, she used both in tandem to create a fake Souma-kun as one of her guardian beastsâ
Â
That was all conjecture, but that was the only conclusion I could draw from my observations. Whether my hypothesis is right, or it just so happened that her patron god stepped in to save her with a miracle, the reality of the matter wouldnât change.
It looked like an exact duplicate of Souma-kun, but on the inside, it should still be the same cloud creature. We didnât have to have any qualms about defeating it. I didnât know how far gone Reina was under itâs hypnotism, but we should first kill it, and then try to get Reina to rights.
Â
âWe gotta beat that fake SOUMA now! That things not human, itâs definitely a monsterâ
âHell yeah, you got it, Momokawa!â
âHeh, guess itâll make up for all the shit the real Souma put us throughâ
âThat fakerâs dead meat, dudesâ
âUOOOH! Iâll beat Souma, and win over Reina-chan!!â
Â
Nice, it was looking like everyone was on board. If the thing had transformed into one of the cute girls from class, I donât think these guys would be so pumped up about it⊠Sorry, Souma-kun. Looks like we wonât have a problem kicking your ass.
Â
âGo! Blackhair Bind!!â
Â
I wasnât going to underestimate it just because it could be called the weakest of the bunch. The cloud creature had now been evolved via Reinaâs spirit mastery. We had yet to see how much stronger itâd become.
Therefore, I didnât just leave it all to the vanguards, and properly added Blackhair Bind as a measure of support.
I directed my blackhair tentacles to swiftly crawl like snakes in an attempt to immobilize SOUMA YUUTO, who stood there gallantly with Reina behind him.
Ok, I got both his ankles.
With that timing, Ueda, Nakai and Yamada used their experience from all our group battles to pincer him from 3 directions.
He was done for ââ was what Iâd hoped.
Â
âGAh!?â
Â
Yelled the three in pain as they were sent flying.
Â
âSHHHAA!â
âGUGAAA!!â
Â
Not missing a beat, Raptor and Rem also went for it under my commandââ Meeting the same result.
He dodged Remâs spear tip in a flowing motion almost like the real Souma-kun would, and delivered a punch as counter. While at the same time, he used one of his sturdy legs to precisely kick Raptor across the solar plexus as it had leaped high and came at him from above.
Yes, legs. By the time I noticed, the blackhair binds around his ankles had been completely shredded.
Â
âFucking bastard, eat this!â\nÂ
As SOUMA was about to continue attacking our felled members, Shimokawa and Yamajun fired spells as deterrence.
The accurate shots of water and light element bolts, literally disappeared right before they hit.
Â
âTch, so this guyâs the wind guardianâ
Â
Both when our meleeâs got blown off and when the arrow spells were nullified, if I wasnât seeing things, Iâm positive I saw light emerald wind like thing around him.
That green wind looked identical to the spells used by Nishiyama-san, the Aeromancer.
Weâd thought that SOUMA YUUTO was weak since he wasnât using a sword, but he in fact had a powerful weapon called aeromancy.
Â
âI will end, anyone, who goes against Reinaâ
Â
The new guardian, who said dark things despite wearing Souma-kunâs refreshing smile, now had mildly glowing emerald green gusts surging around him.
Â
âOi oi, this guyâs hella bad news!â
âWh-whuâdo we do! We canât handle this thing!?â
âDamn, fuck you, fuck you Soumaaa!â
Â
Our three vanguards who had been blasted off hadnât actually taken much damage and were now standing. Raptor and Rem also werenât broken, and quickly got back into battle formation.
SOUMA was admittedly strong as an aeromancer⊠But our difference in strength wasnât absolute, he wasnât able to kill everyone in one strike.
That in mind, we had to defeat him now by all means. Reina already had those dumb animals, Engard and Ramdane, looking out so she didnât so much as scratch a finger nail. So if she then got another one, one that actually spoke, I could see it as nothing but more trouble.
Most importantly, this SOUMA YUUTO had taken the form of Souma Yuuto, meaning that Reina, who was already delusional, was now on a one way ticket to la la land. Give me a break already. I finally got this shitty NEET working at the goma fortress capture and now this.
I had my issues with her, but we still needed Reinaâs power from here on outââ No, wait a second.
Â
âEveryone, stand down! Retreat!â
Â
This time, I wasnât running away while yelling retreat. As the commander, I needed to be at least the 2nd one to run. I could say I learned from the battle with the Orthus.
Â
âRetreat now?â
âYou sure?â
âOi, Momokawa! Now ainât the time!â
Â
Ueda and Nakai quickly backed off, they didnât want to challenge a guardian beast if they didnât have to. As for Yamada, he was yelling like an idiot again, but even he wasnât bold enough to do this alone, so now changed his focus to defense.
Shimokawa, who had finished chanting his next spell, exhaled to calm down. Naturally, Yamajun too had lowered his hands.
Ok, for now, we hadnât gone with the flow and entered battle. We were now at a position to initiate talks.
Â
âReina! We mean you no harm! Weâll leave right now!â
Â
Right, we were having the âtalkâ about parting ways with Reina.
Â
âOi, Momokawa, what the hell are youââ â
âGuys, look, I know you have complaints, but we need to back off for now. Weâre not gonna get off easy if we fight hereâ
Â
I knew that they, especially Yamada, wouldnât agree to my choice of separating with Reina, but I spoke first to shut them up. These guys shouldâve realized too. That if we fought here, weâd most likely be the ones to end up dead.\nÂ
âCome on, man!â
âMomokawa, dude, we canât just leave her hereâ
âLook, Reina doesnât even want our help right now. If we try to force it, sheâll get upset, and when she does, sheâll definitely send in Engard and Ramdaneâ
Â
Two guardian beast, no, three if we included SOUMA YUUTO. These guys whoâd been with Reina much longer than I had should know the meaning of taking all of them on at once.
Right now, Reina wasnât even being held hostage by guardian SOUMA. She was willingly by his side. If we tried to meddle, and she got mad, sheâd have no problem unleashing all her guardians on us.
Â
âItâs just for now, letâs fall backâ
Â
Reina had the overwhelming advantage. Fighting here wouldnât get us anything.
So for now, weâll go back, and make a good plan to save herââ Is what Iâll have them think right now, while I was actually planning to just give up on her, and later convince them to do the same.
In the first place, Reina was very uncooperative and having her stay as a party member gave us more trouble than she was worth. Sure, her strength from the Spirit Master Job was a great merit, but she was a girl whose uselessness completely negated her positives.
Also, she hated me. I was constantly worried if sheâd suddenly have one of hers bite my head off. My reasoning also included these personal circumstances.
Starting with Yamada, Reina had been revered in class as the cutest of little girls, and quite a lot of boys cared so much that theyâd lay down their lives if itâs to protect her. Thanks to her looks and charm, sheâd been treated with the utmost care and affection, no matter how uncooperative she tried to be.
On the other hand, there was me, someone on whom her charms had literally no effect. I simply had no compulsion to keep such a pain in the ass nuisance around.
Thatâs right, now was the perfect time to kick Reina A. Ayase out of the party.
She now had SOUMA YUUTO, an illusion in the guise of the boy she was crushing on, and there was no way sheâd want to wake up from that sweet little dream of hers with any of our convincing. I didnât know whether she was still under the cloud creatures control, or if she was intentionally manifesting SOUMA, but what I did know was that the girl was absolutely refusing to look at reality.
At this point, there was nothing else we could do. My guess was that weâd somehow have to get the real Souma-kun here to break her out of the spell.
She would refuse to leave from here, simply because this place was now a paradise she could spend with Souma Yuuto.
Â
âYeah, this shit ainât worth itâ
âDitto, weâre dead meat if we take her onâ
âTactical retreat, dudesâ
Â
Great, the totem-pole trio got the message.
Keeping a cautious eye on guardian SOUMA, Ueda and Nakai, being as close as they had to be as front liners, started slowly edging backwards. Naturally, I also made Rem and Raptor withdraw.
Â
âDamn, Dammit⊠Reina-chan, wait for me, Iâll save you soonâŠâ
Â
The lump of regret known as Yamada couldnât possibly fight alone seeing as the otherâs had backed off. He also didnât make a fuss and positioned himself to retreat.
Â
âMomokawa-kun, is this alright?â
âYeah, I canât think of anything elseâ
Â
Yamajun was perhaps, the only one here who realized my intentions. He wasnât looking at Reina as someone we were regretfully leaving behind, but at me, who had made the decision to exile her.
Yet, even understanding the nature of that cruel action, he didnât stop me. Thanks man, I appreciate it.
Â
âReina, tell your guardian to back off. Weâre going away and mean no harm, I promise you we wonât bother you anymoreâ
Â
My chief concern right now was SOUMA, who hadnât shown any sign of switching out of battle mode. Itâd be no joke if the moment we turn our backs, weâre sliced in two by his Aer Sagittas.
I let Reina know of our intentions so she can withdraw her creature and guarantee us safe passage.
I mean, she probably didnât want to start a shitshow either, so with the hope that sheâd actually listen for onceââ
Â
âLiesâ
\nÂ
âMomokawa-kun!!â
Â
The sound of impact, I donât know if I heard it right as I was pushed away, or when I was rolling on the grass like an idiot.
But at some point, I was just staring, at the flower of fresh blood blooming just a few feet away.
Â
â⊠Yamajunâ
âUgh, Ah⊠Momo, ka⊠â
Â
Blood violently spurt out from Yamajunâs body as he collapsed.
Â
âYAMAJUN!? HOW, WHYâââ
âGot away. Fine. Iâll hit this timeâ
Â
I could maybe hear SOUMA speaking in a nonchalant tone. I shouldâve understood what his words implied, but my head wasnât working, Yamajun was right there, blood drenching him.
Why, why did he do that.
Â
âââ Aqua Mist!â
Â
Aside from me whoâs time seemed to have stopped, everything else was progressing as usual. At some point, I was surrounded in a thick fog, unable to see much of anything.
Â
âMomokawa, get a grip, dude!â
âOi, run for it, boiz!â
âYamada! Fucking run!â
Â
Shimokawa had grabbed me by the forearm and forcefully made me stand.
Thatâs when I finally understood that Shimokawa had conjured Eis Mist to aid in our get away.
The dude really pulled through for us. I was really glad, and also, my head, thatâd stopped ticking for a while, started working again.
Â
âYamajunâs still breathing! Lift him up on Raptor right now!â
âGotcha, Nakai, legs!â
âRoger, go, go, go!â
Â
Though the process couldâve been smoother, Raptor had practically come sliding and crouched down while Ueda and Nakai hurriedly lifted Yamajun onto its back.
Raptor could carry him much smoother and faster than we could. And the more time we took, the more time SOUMA had to find and kill us.
Â
âShimokawa-kun, lead the way!â
âThis way, dudes!â
Â
Following Shimokawa, who was both the caster of this mist and the only one who could see in it, we withdrew as fast as we could from this deadly fairy square.
I could hear the vwoomphs of aer blades rushing by here and there, but it looks like the guardian couldnât see through the fog either, and all his attacks missed by wide margins.
Â
âSpread out, Rotten Bog!â
Â
As a last stop-gap, I put down a Rotten Bog at the door to the square as we ran away with our tails between our legs.
