It had been a long time since Cosette and Remias had disappeared towards the entrance of the hall.
I was looking around the hall for Cosette, who hadnāt returned even though the ball was almost over when I saw Remias beside His Royal Highness who had arrived late.
I stepped closer and tugged on Remiasās shoulder.
āRemias, whereās Cosette?ā
āIf itās notā¦George-sama, you are being impolite. Even in the presence of Your Highness.ā
āExcuse me. But, howās Cosette?ā
I got annoyed with Remiasās refusal to answer my questions and my tone became severe.
His Highness also senses the harsh atmosphere and looks at us.
āI talked to her for a bit and parted away with her as soon as I got off. Isnāt she somewhere in the hall?ā
Remias takes his gaze off me, and for some reason he looks a little shaken.
ā
ā
āNo, she was nowhere to be found. When did you part away with her? Did Cosette return to the hall soon?ā
āThatās what Iām telling you! Cosette just walked into the hall! You are being disrespectful!ā
Remiasās voice echoed unexpectedly, and the hall fell silent as if it had been hit by a lightning bolt.
As the studentsā gazes were focused on us, I had no choice but to let go of Remiasās hand.
āWell Remias, is it true that you and Cosette parted away almost immediately after coming here? You donāt know where she went after that, do you?ā
āDo you doubt my word, too, Your Highness? You donāt believe me and I donāt feel well. I must be excused.ā
Perhaps offended by the choking tone of His Highness and I, Remias left the hall in a hurry.
āGeorge, how long has Cosette been out of sight?ā
āWell as soon as I arrived at the ballroom, Remias told me he wanted to talk to her, and I havenāt seen her since.ā
Itās been a long time since Iāve spoken to His Highness.
He has been avoiding Cosette unnaturally lately, but was he worried?
āI thought Your Highness was avoiding Cosette because you dislike her. Are you perhaps, worried about her?ā
āOf course⦠I donāt hate her⦠I⦠do but she is with Remias.ā
Did you and Remias avoid Cosette? Yeah?
Iām not sure what that means, but I know that I donāt care.
āI see. Then Iāll go find Cosette.ā
āShe may be back at the Countās house. Iāll contact the Count.ā
I searched for her through the entire hall again, but Cosette was nowhere to be found.
Cosette came here using my carriage, so there was no carriage for the Count. There must be no way for Cosette to return to the mansion.
When I asked the carriage-keeper if a carriage left the hall, he said there was a carriage leaving the hall before the ball started, but he didnāt know who was riding in it.
āHah, hah, I donāt see her here at all. Is Cosette in the Countās house?ā
āSheās not home. Iāll call for a search. Though, I only have my own private army to move.ā
āIām going to the Countās residence. Maybe theyāve already left and arrived there.ā
I hurriedly drove the carriage to the Countās house, but still, Cosette was nowhere to be found.
