It was unbelievable how it ended in just an instant.
ââ Oh, goodness! I see, I see, so Amalda is also close to Duke Luveria! Come to think of it, you played a lot with my Marion, so it should only be natural that you are also close to her husband!â
Father was sitting on Amaldaâs right side, and he looked relieved for some reason.
âI was worried that the Saintess of the Supreme God and His Grace the Duke Luveria might be in conflict, butâŚeverything has been resolved peacefully, and it is all thanks to you, Amalda. You mediated so that nobody will be hurtâŚReally, youâre such a nice kid.â
âIndeed, it is as you said, Count Cladir. Goodness, you have no idea how worried we were about it, so we didnât expect that it would end up in this manner. â
Count Cervan smiled wryly. He was seated on Amaldaâs left side.
âItâs all thanks to you, Amalda-sama. We are ashamed for having been focused on only one side of the argument, and for harboring wrong impressions about you with only that as basis. For you to be so thoughtful and kindâŚâ
âCount Cladir, Father, please refrain from such excessive remarks. Itâs troubling Amalda-sama.â
Amalda, sandwiched between the two of them, had been squirming uncomfortably in her seat as they heaped lavish verbal praises on her. Her cheeks were faintly tinged in red and she was clasping her hands together, so Eric intervened as if to protect her.
âEven if you donât praise her that much, everyone already knows how kind Amalda isâŚWell, she just has a tendency to be too kind for her own good.â
Eric sighed, then he turned his gaze towards me, who was still staring at Amalda.
He took one glance at me as I clenched my fists and bit my lips, then he scowled fiercely, as if he found me thoroughly disagreeable.
âFrom now on, you must serve the incompetent god sincerely with all your heart â youâre too soft on her. Indeed, Father, Count Cladir, and even Duke Luveria are all victims here, and even if they donât feel like suing her and claiming compensationâŚâ
He kept on talking to Amalda while his gaze was still on me.
Father and Count Cervan were too preoccupied with Amalda that they didnât even look at me.
âAnd youâre also saying that youâll just talk to Duke Luveria regarding the truth about Noirâs sister. Well, divorce might be inevitable if he were to learn the truth, but ââ
âEric.â
A small tinkling, bell-like voice quietly resounded inside the room.
Quiet, gentle, and a bit troubled â Eric held his tongue when he heard that voice.
âPlease do not say such things. Iâm not asking for a heavy punishment.â
Amalda shook her head while spouting kind words.
The men gulped when her flaxen hair swayed.
âNoir-chan did tell a lie, butâŚShe probably said that because she wants to marry you. She didnât do it out of ill will, we just didnât see eye to eye. Noir-chan probably didnât wantt things to escalate like this.â
Amalda slowly stood from her seat.
She took a step, then leaving the confused Eric behind, she run with small steps towards me.
âNoir-chan.â
Amalda stood in front of me as I stood in place, then she beamed at me.
Her smile was pure and innocent â perfectly fitting for a saintess as it was directed straight at me.
âI understand. Thatâs because weâre friends. â Isnât that right?â
Her azure eyes, void of any malice, reflected me.
She reached out to my hand while I remained frozen.
Her white, thin hand stretched out without any doubt â
â â Donât touch me!â
I slapped her hand away as strongly as I could.
