Names mentioned in this chapter (which can also be found in the glossary ):
-云舒( yún shū)- Yun Shu, the female lead
– 傅然( Fù rán)- Fu Ran, the male lead in our novel and the original novel
– 张大伟( Zhāng Dà wěi)- David Zhang, Yun Shu’s manager
When Yun Shu returned home, she was still pulling the wool over David Zhang’s eyes with Jin Yuan’s matter. David Zhang was not very willing to accept an extra artiste.
As Yun Shu talked about this, she became angry. She does not know where this person had the guts to say she is a salted fish. [1] If one were to speak of being a salted fish, he does not lose to her. Otherwise, how could a person with the skills and connections only be in charge of one actress in these few years? Moreover, he also never asked her to progress.
David Zhang habitually acted coquettishly. “Oh my. It’s not that I can’t accept her, but I want benefits.”
Yun Shu rolled her eyes. “Fine. I will make your share later!”
David Zhang nodded in satisfaction. “Or you know me, Shu… Hm! President… President… President Fu?!” As he spoke, he saw Fu Ran approaching them and was immediately startled.
Upon hearing that, Yun Shu raised her head and was also startled. “Fu Ran?”
“Are you back?” Fu Ran looked at them and bopped his head. He did so naturally as if he was in his own home. After seeing the large bags in Yun Shu and David Zhang’s hands, he walked forward and conscientiously carried the items.
David Zhang noticed that Fu Ran was wearing a pair of men’s slippers on his feet.
The single-ever-since-she-was-born Yun Shu’s home had no such thing. She didn’t even think of buying it while she was in the supermarket. So on Fu Ran’s feet, it could only be… David Zhang snickered inwardly. Fortunately, he did not believe the despicable words “pure” like what Yun Shu said.
What happened next made David Zhang more certain of his thoughts.
Fu Ran came over to take the things in Yun Shu’s hand. He seamlessly separated her from David Zhang and naturally asked her what she had bought.
Yun Shu was unaware of this and obediently told her of her plans.
Fu Ran, who had a straight face and appeared unhappy, didn’t look unhappy anymore. Although it was not obvious, his eyes twinkled like stars when he looked at Yun Shu.
Fu Ran said, “I’ll assist you later.”
Yun Shu was a little hesitant. “Is this good?”
Fu Ran said seriously, “What’s wrong with that? I can’t just sit around, wait and enjoy, right?”
David Zhang: … (Burp) I’m a little full. [2] And Mr Fu, when are you not sitting around, waiting and enjoying it?
Fu Ran raised his eyes to look at David Zhang, who was still holding onto the things. It was as if he just saw him. He said, “You can put down the things, and I will take it. You don’t have to do much since you are a guest. Sit on the sofa, or you can tell me if you want to drink something.”
David Zhang: …
Guest? How many times has he been here? It won’t be overboard for him to say that he is half an owner. Now he is a guest?
David Zhang was flattered and terrified.
Yun Shu, who was putting things away, heard Fu Ran’s words and immediately said, “Fu Ran, don’t mind him. He is very familiar with this place. Oh, Brother David, you can bring the bag of things over here. If you want to eat something, you can’t just stand there, right?”
David Zhang responded, “… Oh.”
Great. She is giving back what Fu Ran said just now to him. [3]
And Mr Fu, don’t look at me like this~. QAQ
David Zhang still couldn’t do anything because his work was basically taken away by Fu Ran. He could only sit pitifully on the sofa, drink his beverage and watch TV.
He was not flattered at all anymore but only terrified.
At the other end, Yun Shu and Fu Ran were chatting about domestic trivia.
“Why are you here? Have you been here all this time and not gone out?”
“I can’t be here?” Fu Ran was not happy.
Yun Shu fiddled with her fingers. “Of course not. It’s just that I, I… am used to living alone.”
Fu Ran was not unhappy anymore. He said, “Then you have to get used to me in the future.”
Yun Shu blushed and picked at the skin on her fingers. “Oh.”
After the words left Fu Ran’s mouth, he realised what he had said. He looked away, and his ears were slightly red.
David Zhang: … (Burp) I’m full.
[1] 咸鱼(xiányú)- Salted fish. There are several meanings. Firstly, it is a Cantonese metaphor for “dead”. Secondly, it is a Cantonese metaphor for “people who don’t want to move.” Thirdly, it is Internet slang for “people without dreams.” Fourthly, it is an online game term for “a player who does not or rarely spends energy and time participating in activities to improve oneself”. Lastly, it is a self-deprecating phrase on the internet “I’m a salted fish”.
[2] This probably refers to how he felt full after being stuffed with dog food. (撒狗糧[sǎgǒuliáng]- Being stuffed with dog food. It would refer to a situation where a couple shows affection toward each other online or offline, which may trigger envy, jealousy, and self-pity among single people.)
[3] Fu Ran said that “he can’t sit around, wait and enjoy” earlier, so this sentence would mean that Yun Shu is saying the same to David Zhang. This indirectly meant that David Zhang couldn’t just sit around and not help her.
