“Father, mother, your son will be heading to the mountains to pick some herbs. I’ll be back soon.” Shen Lang smiled and began packing.
“Ah… Lang’er, mother will accompany you to the mountains. There are wild beasts there and I don’t wish for you to lose your way.” His mother rushed out.
She completely regarded Shan Lang as her dearest child that she’d spoil whenever the chance proves itself to come by. She could not bear to let him go alone where the wild beasts lurk awaiting their next prey.
“Mother, it’s alright. I’ll be fine.” Shen Lang smiled and comforted her. “I do have a favor that I’d like to ask. Could you go and boil a pot of boiling water, bring me a sharpened knife, a cotton cloth, and prepare me a thick needle? I’ll be needing your help.”
His mother took a long glance at him somewhat shocked at her child’s sudden change. She did not question him, only nodding that she understood what needed to be done.
To her, Shen Lang was her world. He was her child whose very word held a sacred purpose, an imperial edict, an authoritative command.
Shen Lang carried a bamboo basket and a small shovel resting outside. It had collected dust through the ages of time. Heading up the mountains, Tian Heng’s sons, Thirteen and Fourteen followed behind inch by inch. They dared not let Shen Lang go without grabbing hold of the money he promised else… they’d kill him at once.
… … …
Shen Lang held certain concerns whether the plants and herbs in this world would be completely different from his previous world. The unknown led to his ever-growing worries and anxiousness which ran through his body. Fortunately, amongst the herbs and plants he could not identify, there were quite a few he was able to recognize.
There were many anti-inflammation herbs on the rear side of the mountain. How gratifying. The back side of the mountain was a lush evergreen forest full of treasures. In just well over an hour, he plucked many perillas, honeysuckles, and dandelions, all of which could be used to treat and reduce inflammations.
Though sadly, this place was neither the edge of a dessert nor was it the grassland thus he was unable to find any licorice plants, but what surprised him most was the isatis tinctoria herbal plant he managed to dig up. In modern times, the plant was a well-known panacea. Shen Lang’s eyes twinkled at the sight and he quickly dug up more than a dozen of the herbal medicine one after another.
Soon, darkness roamed the plains.
Raising his head, Shen Lang looked at starry skies. “I should go home.”
Getting up and grabbing hold of the loaded bamboo basket, Shen Lang quickly returned home to see his mother had already prepared all that was instructed of her.
His eyes softened, thankful for what she’d done. Thereafter, he went over to Shen Jiang and examined his brother’s crippled leg using his spiritual vision. Fortunately, the broken bone was flat. It wasn’t sharp nor did it protrude. It was a good thing as the blood vessels didn’t rupture.
Grabbing the sharpened knifed and clothed cotton boiled warm, Shen Lang carefully opened a small hole close to Shen Jiang’s broken bone to let the blood flow as he grafted the bone.
Sadly, the conditions of this world were too crude and it’s impossible to align the bones right with steel. He’d just have to do what he’s able to do under such crude conditions. After aligning the broken bones, Shen Lang slowly sutured the small hole with a needle and thread. Then, he rubbed crushed herbs to the wounds gently and tied the broken legs with a cloth using chopsticks to straighten the leg. In this way, Shen Jiang’s crippled leg would be able to heal without him moving his lower body too much that he’d only end up rupturing his closed wounds.
“Brother, you must not move this leg. Keep it straight but it would be best that you do not move around. In two months, the wounds should be fully healed.” Shen Lang smiled lightly.
It was only a small and minor operation taking Shen Lang roughly an hour operating on his little brother, yet he was sweating profusely from the pain. He needed to keep his groaning in check so he bit on a stick to prevent from shouting loudly in pain.
During the process, their parents held their breath nervously. They dared not believe what they witnessed.
This… this was really amazing. After Shen Lang came home, not only was he no longer a fool, he held a sort of fierce and intelligence aura surrounding him.
Just now, Shen Wan saw clearly how his child acted quick and decisively with a firm and steady gaze. His whole person was completely different from before.
Shen Jiang spat out the wooden stick from his mouth and looked at his brother wide-eyed. “Big Bro… you’re my savior! My leg’s no longer swelling and I… I also don’t feel any pain? I’ve seen so many physicians treat a broken leg before, but I’ve never seen anyone as fast as you! If you aren’t a god, then what are you?”
Though Shen Jiang had an immature outlook on life and acted like a hooligan who liked to fool around, never taking things seriously. He had seen many things in his life from blissful heaven to hellish horror. He’d seen how many practitioners had their legs crippled to the point that it was unable to heal. He thought he’d end up like them but who knew all along his big brother had such a skill… and… the skill of his big brother was far superior to those so-called physicians who boasted of their profound techniques.
But what astounded him most was that not too long ago, his big brother was a fool. When did he have such a profound change and became powerful? Who taught him such techniques?
Shen Lang’s family grinned. It was a happy sight to see.
Next, Shen Lang moved to treat his father. First, he drained the clotted blood in his lungs, otherwise, the injury inflicted upon would only lead to pain and affliction and future problems would only arise.
The most difficult part during the operation to drain the blood was knowing where the hematoma was located inside the lungs. It could not be seen with the naked eye and hence it’d be impossible for physicians to treat.
But Shen Lang was different. He had his spiritual visions allowing him to easily locate the issue.\n
