Chapter 6.1: This Does Not Conform to the Routine
Much to Shen Lang’s dismay, he found himself unable to speak out his thoughts, only mumble due to the clothing strip tied around his mouth. The other party did not understand his attempts to speak nor did they care to decipher the message.
So Shen Lang turned his head and gazed intently at their leader.
The man looked to be in his thirties; he had two facial scars which further enhanced his cold and cruel gaze.
Shen Lang was impressed by the looks of this ferociously brutish man. He’d seen this man several times in the past. His name was Tian Heng, a notorious criminal outlaw found within a hundred miles radius who had hundreds of desperados working under him. His appointed leaders ran a gambling hall, a brothel, a dentistry center, and some relegated for murder and assassination.
He’s unsure how many blood Tiang Heng spilt by his own hands.
Not only so, Tian Heng had another identity—the commander of Xuanwu City’s army.
The black shadowy figures pushed Shen Lang into the pit many feet deep in. They picked up a shovel and began burying him alive.
The average men and women would have long cried helplessly pleading for their life, yet here he was, eyes calm and serene. Shen Lang looked at Tian Heng, looked at his countenance first then his body whole.
His eyes glinted for a short moment. Yes, he was looking at Tian Heng with his new abilities. If others were to know of this, they’d shudder at that chilling gaze of his.
Tian Heng failed to hold his growing curiosity. Slowly, he raised his hand and the shadowy figures immediately stopped shoveling. He stepped forwards and came to Shen Lang and slit the clothing strip off from his mouth.
“What do you want?” Tian Heng asked coldly.
“You have a needle in your body. If you don’t take it out, you’ll only lead a life full of worries.”
Shen Lang did not lie. There was indeed a needle inside his body. Furthermore, it was thin and had long pierced his lungs. Were it not for Shen Lang’s ability, such a peculiar thing would have never been found.
After hearing of the handsome lotus’ muttering words, Tian Heng’s mouth dropped. His eyes bulged from sudden surprise.
“The needle will flow through your veins, to your lungs, and then, into your bloodstream. If you don’t take it out, you’ll die a sudden death once it enters your brain.”
Tian Heng stiffened, body shuddering from fear. “How did you know?”
This secret… he kept to himself and never told a soul. Not even his wife knows of it. It’s too strange… this pretty boy he’d just met seemed to know of his dark secret.
Too evil!
“I can help you.” Shen Lang said sincerely.
Tian Heng looked at Shen Lang for a long time. Then, he sighed. “You are but a foolish boy. It is not possible you’d be able to help me, especially something like this.”
“The sharp needle needs to be taken out… otherwise… you will definitely die. I can help you! Only I can help you.” Shen Lang’s eyes were stern, determined even.
“But the condition is that I spare your life, right?’ Tian Heng scoffed. “Don’t you wish to know who sent me to kill you?”
Shen Lang shook his head. “There is no need.”
“You are absolutely not a fool!” Tian Heng’s eyes narrowed. “But… I’m sorry. I cannot promise you this.”
Shen Lang’s eyes dimmed. He believed… no… he was certain the deal provided was a heavenly sent favor to him. Even if Tian Heng had been commissioned to assassinate him, money should not be important when it concerned the wellbeing of his life. Shen Lang had means to save him. There should be no reasons why he’d decline, no reason at all.
If that is the case… then there can only be one reason. The reason he’s unable to refuse was because the person was someone he could not afford to offend.
This can only be the reason.
However, this is too troublesome. If Tian Heng did not agree, he’d not be able to use his prowess medical skills. The deal then was as good as dead.
“Your little brother owes us a large sum of money.”
Eh? My brother owes you money?!
“Three months ago, your good father was injured. In order to save him, your little brother borrowed five gold coins from us. Of course, he used it to save your father. Now he owes us one hundred gold coins.”
This… this is daylight robbing! Beyond usury! In three months time, the exorbitant interest rate increased twenty times by the original amount.
But he’s not too concerned regarding the interest rates his little brother, Shen Jian owed, only the welfare of his father, Shen Wan.
It was only three months ago when Shen Lang became the Xu Family’s son-in-law. Shen Wan must have rushed to the Xu Family House to bring his dearest son back home only to result in failure. He was kicked out by the Xu Family servants without regards and suffered cumbrous injuries.
At the time, foolish him was left unaware.
Shen Lang sighed. He really was a stupid fool… his “so-called wife” had even gone as far as to disregard his family.
He’d really chosen wrong this time. He really messed up. He felt he wasn’t worth the love and care given to him by his loving family.\n
