Akite raised its head, blue fire igniting in its eyes.
âLight.â
Bright light illuminated the world.
âMm!â Man Bok, whoâd seen Akite for the first time, widened his eyes. On the other hand, Burkan tightly gripped his gladius, preparing himself for the worst.
âIâm back!â Kang Oh said.
âIâve been waiting for you. Do you have the money?â
âThatâs right.â Kang Oh stared at Burkan and Man Bok. âPlease give me the money now!â
âBefore that, I have a question for you, Dragon,â Burkan said.
âWhat is it?â
âYouâre the soul dungeonâs guardian, right?â
âThatâs right. I manage the Saul Graveyard.â
âThe dungeonâs rewards are dragon materials, right?â
âIndeed.â
âUnderstood.â
Heâd confirmed Kang Ohâs collateral. After all, 600,000 gold was no small sum.
âWeâre good now, right?â Kang Oh extended his hand.
âYeah.â Burkan passed him a golden scroll.
A gold scroll was magic paper that contained a designated amount of gold. Ripping this paper would release the gold that was stored within. Thus, gold scrolls were used when dealing with large sums of money.
Kang Oh opened the gold scroll and examined the sum. 600,000 gold. Nothing wrong here!
âI have it right here.â Man Bok pulled out a gold scroll without him asking. It did indeed contain 300,000 gold.
Then, Kang Oh took out a 100,000 gold scroll from his inventory.
In total, 1 million gold!
âH-Here.â Kang Ohâs voice trembled as he passed Akite the three gold scrolls.
Swish.
The three scrolls floated into the air and flew to Akite.
âItâs definitely 1 million gold.â
Then, a triangular object flew towards him. There was a dragonâs skull engraved on the surface.
âA soul stone!â Kang Oh extended his hand and grabbed the stone.
Bam! The soul stone radiated intense light, as if a flash bang had gone off.
[You have become the master of the soul dungeon, Saul Graveyard.]
[You may now exercise your right as dungeon master.]
[You may change the dungeonâs name whenever you wish. However, you can only change it once.]
âMaster, what is your name?â Akiteâs jaw moved.
âKang Oh.â
âKang Oh. I wonât forget that name.â
âIâm in your care.â
âMe too.â
âCongratulations, Mr. Kang Oh.â
âCongrats.â
Man Bok and Burkan said.
âThank you.â Kang Oh caught his breath. âHoo. Iâm going to look at the dungeonâs rewards now. Dungeon Management!â
A rectangular system window popped up.
[Dungeon Management â Saul Graveyard]
Saul Graveyard is the Goddessâs Landâs first graveyard. Once the Bone Dragon, Akite, began living here, undead monsters began to appear.
It also serves as the secret storehouse where Geskal hid his fortune. (Addendum)
Kang Oh selected the âDungeon Rewardâ tab with his finger.
[Dungeon Reward (Monthly Payment)]
20 Dragon Scales.
10 Dragon Bones.
10 Dragonskin.
5 Dragon Claws.
2 Dragon Blood.
1 Piece of a Dragonâs Heart.
âMm.â
It offered more dragon materials than heâd expected. In exchange, it didnât give him any gold.
âHow are the rewards?â
âTheyâre better than I expected.â Kang Oh then explained exactly how much of each material the dungeon would give him.
âYou should be able to craft dragon equipment with that much,â Man Bok said.
âIâll receive the rewards in a month, so thatâs when our work will begin in earnest.â
âItâll go well,â Man Bok said calmly.
âIt has to. Isnât that right, Little Brother?â It was no different from a threat. Burkan was basically saying, âIf it doesnât go well, then prepare yourself.â.
âO-Of course!â
âAh, thatâs right. Master, thereâs something I have to tell you,â Akite said.
âWhat is it?â
âIf someone offers me more money than you, then Iâll give them the soul stone.â
âWhat?â
âWhat the hell!?â
âDonât worry. If they donât have any money, then Iâll show them no mercy.â Akite roared.
âNo, thatâs not the issue here. Youâll give the soul stone to just anyone so long as they give you more than 1 million gold?â
âThatâs right!â Akite said firmly.
âWho the hell does that!?â
âMe.â
Kang Ohâs face crinkled. âYou money-grubbing dragon!â
âIf that happens, will ownership be automatically transferred?â Man Bok asked. His face had gone completely stiff. âThat canât happen.â
âNo. If an intruder gets their hands on the soul stone, then the dungeon master or their stand-in will fight in a one-on-one fight. Whoever wins the fight will gain ownership of the soul stone.â
âI see.â Man Bok nodded his head.
Kang Oh stared at Burkan. âI have some work for you, Brother.â
âNo thanks.â Burkan shook his head. âYou want me to become your proxy, right?â He read Kang Oh like a book.
âExactly.â
âI told you, you have to wipe your own assâŚâ
âIf someone steals the soul dungeon, then you lose your collateral. So this is your problem too.â
Fortunately, only Kang Oh and his companions had come to the Goddessâs Land. However, he couldnât afford to lower his guard; after all, NPCs could own soul dungeons too.
âHmm.â
âI just want you to be my proxy until Iâm sufficiently strong enough.â
Kang Oh was confident in his strength. He wouldnât lose to another player. But what if he fought a Master like Valan or Burkan? That would be a completely different story. He couldnât beat a Master yet.
âPlease!â Kang Oh bowed deeply.
âI got it.â Ultimately, Burkan accepted his request.
âThank you.â
âWhat a relief.â Man Bok could relax now. After all, their last bastion was the Invincible Gladiator, Burkan.
âAkite, this man will be my proxy for the sacred duel.â Kang Oh respectfully pointed at Burkan.
âUnderstood.â
The soul stone expelled an orb of light, which spun around Burkan, and then returned to the soul stone.
âHeâs been registered as your proxy.â
âThanks. Ah, and please activate the magic circle.â
âNo problem.â
A dim purple magic circle appeared in the corner.
âKeep this safe too.â Kang Oh shook the soul stone.
âGot it.â
The soul stone floated into the air and then flew to Akite. Akite opened its jaw, devouring it, and the soul stone completely vanished.
âAre we done now?â
With this, Kang Oh had acquired his third soul dungeon.
It wasnât all good news though. After all, he had to pay Burkan 800,000 gold back.
* * *
A man opened the door and entered the cafe. He looked like he was in his mid-thirties; he was good-looking and had great style too. However, he looked tired, evidenced by the dark bags underneath his eyes.
âOver here.â Jae Woo, whoâd been waiting for him, waved his hand.
âMr. Jae Woo! Itâs been a while.â Park Jin Cheol smiled. He was one of GBSâs producers.
âYes, it has.â
The two greeted each other and then ordered some refreshments.
âWhy did you ask to see me? I donât recall you sending me any clipsâŚâ Jin Cheol asked.
âI didnât call you to sell footage. I wanted to talk to you about First Kill,â Jae Woo said.
Jin Cheol had asked Jae Woo to star in First Kill. It was a program that focused on defeating monsters that were considered âunbeatableâ.
When Jin Cheol had first given him the offer, Kang Oh had been so busy exploring Despia that heâd refused.
However, the situation had changed. Eder had regained his body, and heâd made a lot of progress on the exploring front, so he couldnât afford to let go of an opportunity to make so much money.
Moreover, he had a ton of debt, so he needed to make money whenever he could!
âFirst Kill?â
âYes.â
âMm.â Jin Cheol looked troubled.
âWhatâs the matter?â
âWe got someone else to do it because you werenât available. Plus, the concept of the program was changed a bit.â
âTch. Is that so?â Jae Woo disappointedly clicked his tongue. âUnderstood. Then I guess it canât be helped.â
âI have a new offer if youâre interested.â
âA new offer?â
âYes. Please take this.â Jin Cheol pulled out a tablet from his briefcase, touched it a few times, and then passed it to Kang Oh.
âFirst Hunter?â The tablet showed the project proposal. The programâs prospective name was First Hunter.
Jae Woo touched the tablet and carefully examined the plan.
âThis isâŚâ
First Hunterâs main concept was similar to First Killâs original concept: conquering unconquerable monsters!
However, it was changed to three teams taking on these unconquerable monsters. Whichever team killed the boss first would receive a significant reward from GBS.
âThe three teams have already been decided. Theyâve already signed their contracts too. But if you sign on, then weâll change it to four teams,â Jin Cheol said.
âThereâs no appearance fee.â
âYes. In exchange, the reward for killing the monster is huge.â
âSo the winner takes all. The losers get nothing.â
âWe offer rewards for five monsters. Which means there are five chances to get that huge reward.â
âHow much is the reward?â
âThe reward for each monster is a secret.â
âHow much is it in total?â
âHereâs a hint: 100 million ($100,000 USD)!â Jin Cheol said.
âSo itâs more than 100 million won.â
Jin Cheol said â100 millionâ for a reason. Heâd chosen a roundabout way of telling him that the total reward was more than 100 million.
âThe teams are a secret too, I assume?â
âWeâll let you know on the first show.â
âAre there any Numbers?â
âMaybe.â
âHmm.â Kang Oh was locked in thought. âShould I do it or not?â
âItâs a chance to make a lot of money,â Jin Cheol whispered.
âHe knows me too well. Iâm incapable of turning down money.â
âIâll do it.â
âYou made the right decision. However, weâre under a tight schedule. The first shoot will be next Monday. Is that ok with you?â
Next Monday. Today was Monday, so itâd be in exactly one week.
âIâm fine with that.â
âPlease sign here.â Jin Cheol touched the tablet a few times, and the contract appeared on the screen. Jae Wooâs name was already in the contract.
âYou knew this would happen when I called,â Kang Oh said. The contract had already been prepared for him.
âI prepared it just in case. And it was a good thing I did.â Jin Cheol beamed.
Jae Woo carefully read through the contract, and then signed next to his name.
âPlease take care of me.â
âLetâs do our best together. Ah, do you need something to conceal your face this time?â Jin Cheol asked.
In the past, Kang Oh had worn a helmet on Dungeon Conquering Man (He Who Conquers Dungeons) because he didnât want his face shown to the public.
âPlease prepare a good one for me.â
People knew what Jae Wooâs in-game character, Kang Oh, looked like, but they didnât know that heâd scanned himself to create his character.
Thatâs what kept him from getting bothered in real life. Jae Woo didnât want to lose this freedom.
