They were in charge of the Seorim Store, and ranked 2nd amongst the Numbers. Supposedly, they were so rich that theyâd accumulated a mountain of gold.
Wang Seo Rim had been wary of Man Bok in the past. They kept him in check, and eventually went head-to-head with him, which ultimately led to his ruin. With him out of the way, they no longer had to worry about Man Bokâs talent or business acumen.
âMr. Kang Oh, you of all people should be able to gather 1 million gold,â Man Bok said nonchalantly.
âExcuse me?â
âW-Why me?â
âYouâve accumulated some money thus far, yes? Youâre also one of the Numbers, so youâre world famous. Please borrow what you need.â
âDebt is kind ofâŠâ
Kang Oh hated borrowing money. Paying interest felt like someone was stealing money from him.
âYou donât often get opportunities to make money like this. So please take advantage of the opportunity while you still have the chance,â Man Bok advised.
âMm, understood. Iâll try gathering the funds.â Kang Oh nodded his head. âI donât like it, but Iâll borrow money if I have to.â
âNow, letâs assume youâve amassed the required 1 million gold and youâve become the dungeonâs master. You should receive a certain amount of dragon materials every month.â
âYes.â
âSelling the dragon materials as is would be ridiculous. By crafting them into armor or weapons, youâll be able to sell them for a few times, no, perhaps even ten times what the original material was worth.â
Kang Oh nodded his head.
In a fantasy world, wouldnât the best equipment be made out of dragon materials? Dragon weapons/armor were top-of-the-line luxury items like Gucci, Chanel, and Louis Vuitton.
âPlus, you already have craftsmen that can turn them into equipment for you.â
âIâm not so sure. I donât really know any craftsmen that are skilled enough toâŠâ
âYouâre close to the dwarves.â
âThe Black Hammer Dwarves? I donât think theyâre skilled enough to handle dragon materials. At least for now.â
The Black Hammer Dwarvesâ Chieftain, Randelhoff, claimed that none of their blacksmiths were skilled enough to handle the S-rank adamantium gemstone.
Giving them other S-rank materials like a dragon bone, dragon scales, dragonskin, etc. would be pointless. And if those are out of their reach, then handling a dragonâs heart would be out of the question.
âA short while ago, I sold them some beer, cigars, and daily necessities. I heard that a great blacksmith would be born soon.â
âOh, is that so?â
That was good news. Theyâd be able to craft the adamantium ore into a demon sword soon.
âIf you provide them with the dragon materials, then they can craft them into equipment, and I can sell them. Itâd be a perfect arrangement, no?â
Man Bok secretly added himself into the mix. A true merchant would seize any opportunity to make money!
Kang Oh thought it over.
If Man Bok was right, then heâd easily make 1 million gold. Potentially even more than that! Being the sole supplier of dragon equipment would allow them to set prices.
âItâs worth a shot.â
It was literally high risk, high reward. Above all, Man Bok was interested in this business venture. Man Bok had a keen sense of smell when it came to money; if he thought a business would be profitable, then there was no reason to doubt him.
âIf you want to be involved, then please invest!â He extended his empty hand. It was as if he were asking for New Yearâs money.
âIâll try and gather 300,000 gold. In exchange, I want 30% of the profits.â
âFine.â
Kang Oh and Man Bok shook hands.
Then, Man Bok said, âPlease hurry and gather the rest!â
* * *
He needed 600,000 more gold. Man Bok would provide 300,000 of the 1 million gold, and Kang Oh had about 100,000 gold saved up.
âSomeone thatâll lend me 600,000 goldâŠâ Kang Oh thought of the Towerâs Director of Water Magic Research, Grano.
Even the richest individuals couldnât sway the Tower with money; they were just that rich. Thus, he believed that Grano would be able to lend him 600,000 gold.
However, Kang Oh soon shook his head. Sure, they might lend him the money, but the Tower would ask him to relinquish the dragon materials.
âHmm, who else could I ask?â Kang Oh strolled through Altein, lost in thought.
Not only were his two demon swords stashed in his inventory, but his face was covered. Plus, people didnât know about his Draka set yet, so no one recognized him.
Then, Kang Oh turned his gaze towards a certain building. He was staring at a white building that resembled a coliseum; upon close examination, however, one would find significant differences between them! It was the Holiseum!
âMaybeâŠâ
Kang Oh headed for the Holiseum.
The Holiseum was a gladiatorial arena. Gladiatorial matches were the favored sport of Alteinâs citizens. Thus, the most skilled gladiators were considered stars.
A gladiatorâs popularity determined how much itâd cost to see them.
What if the Invincible Gladiator, Burkan, were to appear in the arena? Tickets would cost a fortune, and the huge âcoliseumâ would be filled to the brim. Thus, Burkan could make tens of thousands of gold for just one match.
In other words, Burkan was filthy rich, even though he didnât look like he was.
âBrother!â Kang Oh opened Burkanâs door and came inside.
âLittle Brother? Itâs been a while. Have you been well?â He had a huge, robust body, yet he looked like a naive old bachelor, unbefitting his title of Invincible Gladiator.
âI was a bit busy. How about you?â
âHaha, Iâve been well.â
âIs everything going well with you and Ms. Dora, no, Sister-in-Law?â
Dora was Burkanâs girlfriend.
âOf course.â Burkan beamed. Then, he opened a ring box, revealing a beautiful ring inside. âIâm going to propose soon.â
âCongratulations. You havenât forgotten how much I helped you, right?â
Burkan wasnât comfortable with women; he was the type whoâd shrink in front of them. Thus, he was an old bachelor, even though he was the Invincible Gladiator.
However, Kang Oh had given him a little push, and was paramount in the formation of their relationship.
âIâll be sure to invite you to the wedding.â
âThatâs obviously a must. I have a favor to ask you,â Kang Oh said. This was the reason heâd buttered him up by mentioning Dora.
âWhat is it? I told you before, you have to wipe your own ass.â
âIâm not asking you to beat someone up or kill a monster on my behalf.â
âThen what do you need?â
âI want to borrow some money?â
âMoney? How much?â
â600,000 gold.â
âWhat?â Burkan raised his hand and picked his ear. âDid I hear wrong?â
â600,00 gold! Do you have it or not?â Kang Oh said firmly, as if he was the one whoâd lent money. Unbeknownst to Burkan, he got completely caught up in the act.
âYeah, I have it, butâŠâ
âThen please lend it to me.â
Burkan regained his composure and scowled. âAre you in debt?â
âPlease just let me borrow it.â
âNo thanks.â Burkan folded his arms. It was a sign of complete refusal.
âIâll pay 10% interest. Youâll get 660,000 gold back.â
âI can leave it with the bank and Iâd get more than that.â
âThen what do I have to do to convince you?â
âFirst, tell me what you need the money for.â
âIn order to make money!â
Kang Oh explained his and Man Bokâs plan to make money.
âHmm, dragon materials, huhâŠâ Burkan was locked in thought. Kang Oh kept his mouth shut, and waited for Burkan to continue. âAlright, Iâll lend you the money.â
âOh, as expected of you, Brother!â
âHowever!â
âHowever?â
âYou have a year to pay me back 800,000 gold!â
âUgh.â
800,000 gold!? That meant he wanted 200,000 gold as interest.
âIf you canât pay me back, then give me the soul dungeon. I know you can transfer ownership.â
âMm!â
Plus, he wants to use the dungeon as collateral?
âThereâs no way Iâd lend you 600,000 gold without a guarantee. Isnât that right?â
âCanât you just let me borrow it without all that?â Kang Oh asked. However, Burkan completely ignored him and kept talking.
âFinally, work as one of the Holiseumâs gladiators. I donât like the newcomers lately. Of course, I get everything you make until you pay back what you owe.â
âUgh!â
If he couldnât pay back his debt, then heâd have to work it off! Kang Oh wanted to say that they were unreasonable conditions. However, Burkan had all the negotiating power here.
âArenât interested? Fine then.â
âBrother, those conditions are tooâŠâ
âNo negotiating,â Burkan said firmly, interrupting him.
Kang Oh bit his lip. Ultimately, he raised his hands in surrender.
âUnderstood. I accept, so please lend me the money.â
âGood. Write a contract!â
The two wrote and signed the contract, which included everything theyâd agreed to thus far.
âTo think Iâd lose out!â
Kang Oh saw the âformerâ next to his name and shook. Heâd often been the latter (the position of power), but heâd never been on the receiving end before.
âAhem.â Kang Oh calmed himself down and stared at Burkan. âGive me the money. The 600,000 gold!â
âIt should be âPlease lend me the money.â, not âGive me the money.â. Youâre the one in debt!â Burkan grinned, seemingly having the time of his life.
âPlease. Lend. Me. The. Money.â
âI canât just give it to you. What if you just take the 600,000 and run?â
âDo I really look like that kind of person?â
âYeah.â
âTch.â
âHe knows me too well.â
âThen what do you want to do?â
âThat soul dungeon, the Saul Graveyard, right? Take me there. I need to make sure you have the collateral.â
âUnderstood. Then Iâll call you when Iâm ready.â
âSure.â
* * *
â Mr. Man Bok, I have 700,000 gold.
â Already?
â Yes. When will you be ready?
â Iâll need about three days.
â Understood. Please tell me when youâre ready.
â Yes.
Three days later. Latnia City.
Kang Oh, Burkan, and Man Bok arrived in the Goddessâs Land via Ederâs transfer magic circle. They made quite the unusual trio.
âThis is Despia!â
âHmm.â
Burkan and Man Bok had never been to the Goddessâs Land before.
âThis way.â Kang Oh led them out of the city.
Shortly after leaving Latnia City, a Giant Kruger popped out of the ground.
âUooh.â Man Bok screamed, surprised by the sudden appearance of the giant-mouthed, hideous beast.
But who was he with again? Kang Oh, who was part of the Numbers, and the Invincible Gladiator, Burkan. There was nowhere safer.
âItâs a Giant Kruger, huh,â Burkan said nonchalantly, and swung his gladius. Kang Oh immediately barraged it with attacks too.
Giant Krugers were renowned for their brutality and tenaciousness! They were rash, ferocious, and powerful monsters!
But before Kang Oh and Burkan, it was nothing more than a wild dog. The two of them instantly killed it.
âHow boring,â Burkan briefly commented.
âLetâs go.â Kang Oh led them to their destination once more.
Danger lurked in every corner of the Goddessâs Land. For example, zones filled with cannibalistic plants, or the domain of the hell ants.
They werenât an issue. Kang Oh knew the safest way forward.
How much time had passed?
âThis is the place.â
Kang Ohâs party safely arrived at the Saul Graveyard.
[Entering the dungeon, Saul Graveyard.]
Powerful monsters like the Mana Enlightened Skeleton Mage, the Dullahan Master, and the Elite Death Knight greeted Kang Ohâs party.
But they didnât come here to fight, so they only fought when necessary.
And finallyâŠ!
They could see the marble building and its skull buttons. It was the entrance to Akiteâs nest.
