First time selling things, Wu was secretly excited, the sky hasn't break dawn yet he was already on his way with his tricycle. A pot almost as tall as half of a person's height, full of porridge, there's less than half a sack of rice but there's they added a box full of gelatin. The thick and sticky porridge was rocking back and forth in the pot, Wu's heart was also swaying beautifully.
He had escaped from others' control, he doesn't need to earn money for others' sake. From now on, for every cup I had sold, I'm the biggest contributor. My earnings depends on how much I sell everyday, I would work overtime if I want to, I'm happy even no matter I lost or earned.
'Porridge!'
Wu was shouting at the an empty alley, he felt brilliant.
After searching along two streets, Wu finally found a good spot. There were vendors selling breakfast along the street too, they were selling pancakes, buns but there wasn't a stall selling porridge. He got everything out, getting ready for business. When he was about to open the pot lid, there's an old lady standing in front of him, eyes gawking at him.
'You want to buy porridge, I assume?' Wu asked.
'You took my space,' the lady said angrily.
Wu said smiling, 'There's no land use plan here, you didn't rent this place either, how is this yours?'
The lady was impatient, 'You can ask them, I sell here every day.'
Wu was not sure about the rules about this, so he replied calmly, 'My cart is already here, it would be troublesome if I had to move it, you can come earlier tomorrow.'
The lady threw her electric pot on the ground furiously, rolled her eyes.
'Sure, I'll let you to sell your things here, let's see if you manage to sell any out!'
Wu ignored her, continued with what he was doing.
'Dumplings!' The lady started to shout.
Wu raised his voice ten times louder than hers, 'Porridge here! One for one dollar!'
The lady scolded at the side, 'One fine young man, why can't you do something else? You have to sell porridge here. Tsk, studying is better, my son is a university graduate and now he's working in a big company, he doesn't need to suffer like you. I say, it is the fate of poverty...'
'It is the fate of poverty,' Wu was playing with his soup spoon, 'Why is she doing here if her son is working in a company?'
The lady was enraged, she was speechless but Wu looked uninterested.
'One bowl of dumpling, please.'
'Sure! I cooked it this morning, you got the first batch.'
The time ticked by, the lady's business is getting busier, she didn't have the time to argue with Wu anymore. Wu just realised the lady's warning has came true, everyone who came to buy breakfast walked past his stall but they just took a short glimpse, then headed to the lady's stall to buy her dumplings.
Half and hour had past, Wu hasn't even sell out a cup of porridge.
The lady was humming song, looking at Wu with a hint of mockery.
Finally, Wu had his very first customer, a girl in her twenties, she came because of Wu's face.
'One cup of porridge, please.'
Wu was startled, he opened the lid in a swift motion, wanting to pour her a cup of porridge. He took the spoon in his hand and drew a perfect curve in air, the girl was lost in her own world.
Shit...the spoon dropped into the porridge.
Wu stared at the pot.
The pot was so deep, the spoon must've dropped to the very bottom of the pot. If I had to take it out, my whole hand will be in the pot.
'I'm so sorry.'
The girl left with a sour face.
Wu had no choice, he must go home to take out the spoon. When he was pushing his cart past the lady's stall, the lady deliberately bluffed.
'Oh god, the spoon was full of bacteria, it dropped into the porridge, can we eat it?'
Wu gritted his teeth, pushed his cart back home.
Shuai heard his old cart, he knew Wu came back, he walked to the door happily, 'Woah, you sold out all already?'
'What? The spoon fell into the porridge.'
Shuai, '.....'
He opened the lid to take a look, the porridge was at the right consistency this morning when he left but now it's like glue now. Wu poured away half pot of it, he took out the spoon and added more water, half a box of gelatin and mixed around. Boom, a new pot of porridge.
'I'll sell the remaining half pot tonight!'
After saying that, Wu set off to sell his porridge again.\n
