âUhm, Kuu? Iâm happy that youâre worried about me, but please donât shake me so much.â
Two days after the encounter with JK Maka-chan, I rested on my deathbed.
âBut Sensei. You have a 38° degrees fever! Youâll probably die!â
âNo, I wonât die from just this. Itâs just a summer coldâŚâ
Figures why I suddenly started feeling worse and worse since last night.
âB-But, Mother told me that there were people that died from a cold!â
âWhatâs Kouko-sensei planning by scaring her daughter like thisâŚ?â
Isnât this person hammering too many weird things into poor Kuuâs brain? Is this girl going to be okay in the future?
âŚNo, just this once, I wonât worry about that.
The time just struck 7:30 am. Normally, this would be the time to prepare breakfast for my lazy little sister and run-away girl. Today, however, theyâll have to pass. Lying sideways, teary-eyed Kuu was furiously shaking my body.
âC-Call an ambulanceâŚ! Should we call an ambulance? Weâll have to get him into the ER as fast as possible!â
âKuu, have you been watching too many hospital dramas recentlyâŚ?â
âEh? Yes, my mother often watches themâŚâ
Seems like Kuu doesnât quite understand whatâs right and whatâs wrong right now because of these over-the-top dramas.
âIâm not as sick as the people appearing in those dramas. Iâll drink the medicine, take a good nap, and Iâll be back to normal soon.â
âExactly, Kuu-chan, Iâd be better to stay a bit away from him for now. Right now, heâs the devil, powerful enough to bring a great calamity.â
âYou donât have to say that much just because itâs a coldâŚEh, Miharu, youâre actually pretty considerate right now?â
Miharu entered my room with a sports drink in one hand. Even though itâs rare enough for her to hold anything else, besides her smartphone.
âAhh, drinking a sports drink without having done any sport before is the best!â
âSo youâre the one drinking it?!â
Miharu sat down next to the bed, and started gulping down the drink in her hands.
âJoking, joking. Here, Onii-chan.â
âDonât give me a half-finished drinkâŚâ
Itâs not like I mind having an indirect kiss with my little sister, you know.
âA-An indirect kissâŚSensei and Miharu-oneechan really are boldâŚâ
ââŚâ
I see, sheâs right at that age where youâd be bothered by things like thatâŚAh, this still isnât the time for that.
âThe two of you, donât mind me and go to school already. Sorry about breakfast, but we still have some bread, so make do with that for today.â
âEhhh, but Miharu wonât be satisfied with just breadâŚIf Miharu doesnât get to eat Onii-chanâs cooking, she canât muster up any strength.â
âYou say it to sound cute, but I never once saw you use up any strength, you know?â
âThen, Iâll hold off of breakfast, and pray that Sensei will be back to full health soon.â
âAgain with the heavy stuffâŚItâs just a cold, okay?â
Ahh, even just retorting is draining my energyâŚ
Both Kuu and Miharu are now rolling around on top of my futon. Having two cute girls next to me is great and all, but I canât play along forever.
âWill you go to school already! Todayâs Saturday, so you can go home after morning classes!â
âTch, even though Miharu was planning on nursing you back to health, and use that as an excuse to skip school.â
âUuuuâŚSensei wonât die while Iâm at school, right?â
âI wonât I wonât. Iâm going to be fine, I promise.â
And thus, the two girls finally left.
Ahhh, there they goâŚThough it might sound weird coming from me now, but being alone is a bit lonely, you know.
âMmm? Now itâs a phone call?â
My phone, lying next to my pillow, started vibrating. When I answered the callâ
ăS-Saigi-kun! Are you okay?! How much time do you have left?!ă
âPlease calm down, Maka-sensei. I donât know how much time I have left, but a cold like this shouldnât cut away at my life expectancy.â
I thought this would happen, but she was panicking more than I had anticipated.
Since Seikadai is pretty strict, you have to always call in when youâre sick. Since we donât have an official guardian at home, I asked Miharu to take over for now. Of course, she probably talked with my homeroom teacher, Maka-sensei.
ăDonât worry, I know someone at Seikadaiâs university hospital! Pretty young, but very famous! If itâs her, sheâll definitely be able to save you!ă
âPlease use that connection for something more usefulâŚâ
Iâd really feel bad if other people suffered because weâd monopolize that doctor.
ăWhat a blunderâŚIf only I joined the medical divisionâŚI might be able to save you all on my ownâŚă
âBut because you didnât do that, you met me, right?â
ăT-That might be true, butâŚNo, Iâll call an ambulance, get you to the ER, check your blood pressure, and get you under supervision!ă
âYouâre basically saying the same thing like a certain 5th graderâŚâ
Are they watching the same hospital drama perchance?
âItâll be gone after I take a good nap. Also, the vice-principal might get the wrong idea if you were to pay too much attention to me. That being said, good luck on your job~â
ăAh, hey, Saigi-kunâă
Without paying attention to her last words, I cut the call. I donât feel like endlessly talking to Maka-sensei right now.
Fuu, with this, I should be able to get some rest for now. Even if itâs Maka-sensei weâre talking about, she surely wouldnât take a day off from work just to look after me. Letâs just sleep. When you catch a cold, taking a good nap is the best medicineâ
âHey, thanks for waiting~ Your beloved Nui-chan is here!â
âHey, Amanashi Nui. If you run wild now, youâll only worsen Saigi Makotoâs condition.â
ââŚâŚâ
I only rested for a few hours. Noon passed, and after the school day ended, thus came Nui and Karen-kaichou.
âIâm happy that youâre here to visit meâŚbut what are those clothes about?â
âWe brought a lot of essential items youâll need when you visit someone whoâs sick! In todayâs time, you can really get any cosplay pretty cheap, you know?â
Nui was clothed like a miniskirt nurse. Her overwear seemed to be rather tight, because I could clearly make out the shape of her breasts. Not to mention that her skirt seems to be this short on purpose, and I feel like I could catch a glimpse of her panties if she only moved a little bitâŚ
âW-Wait. Iâm not cosplaying. Iâm the real deal. Nursing somebody back to health is a nunâs job, so I thought of wearing this.â
ââŚI didnât expect to see Karen-kaichouâs nun appearance todayâŚâ
Exactly, Karen-kaichou was wearing a gray-like nun uniform. Though she wasnât wearing a miniskirt, I could still clearly see that her breasts were at a formidable size.
âTheyâre supposed to be proper clothes, but they look so indecent when Karen-kaichou is the one wearing themâŚâ
âWhaâ?! I-Indecent?! Even though thereâs almost zero skin exposure involved?! The reason why they told me to stay in my school uniform was because of this?!â
âAhh, yeahâŚItâs a bit weird coming from me, but Prez is pretty erotic. Even though you got smaller breasts than me.â
âT-This doesnât have anything to do with breasts! Rather than thatâI came here to nurse Saigi Makoto back to health.!â
Both Karen-kaichou and Nui were making a lot of noise next to my pillow.
My head was spacing out back then when I let them in, but should I kick them out while I still can?
âOh, excuse me for getting so agitated, Saigi Makoto. Lord, please forgive me. Oh right, you didnât have anything for lunch yet, right?â
âAh, noâŚI donât have any appetite right now.â
I know that Iâd be better off eating somethingâŚbut itâs so troublesome to get up and make something.
âI thought so. Wait a bit. Amanashi Nui, please do not tire him any further!â
âEhhh, youâre asking for too much.â
âAt least keep it down in front of a sick person. And try something about those huge breasts of yours, theyâre poisoning him!â
âI canât just put them away like how I want! Really, I got it!â
With that, Karen-kaichou left the roomâ
Nui was a bit agitated at first, but soon calmed down to tell me about what happened in school today. As a bit of time had passed by, Kaichou then came back. On top of the tray in her hands was a small pot.
âI made some rice porridge. Donât worry, I help out in cooking the food, even from when I was young. Youâre probably expecting some poisonous food like youâd get from Amanashi Nui, but you donât have to worry.â
âOh, so everybody is dissing me now?!â
Yeah, though I feel bad, but eating Nuiâs cooking would probably have the opposite effectâŚ
âCanât help it! Since Kaichou was the one to make it, Iâll be the one to feed Sai-kun!â said Nui, picking up the spoon next to the pot, putting a bit of porridge on it.
âH-Hey! Why are you taking away the best part!â
âThatâs my way of living!â
What a nice smile, Nui. But, leaving aside that, why canât I just eat it myselfâŚ? Iâve gotten a bit hungry after smelling the porridge after all.
âYes yes, little girls. You plan on worsening the condition of our sick boy?â
Suddenly, the spoon disappeared from Nuiâs hands, andâ
âHere, Makoto-kun. Open wide~â
âW-Who are you?!â
âA new girl of Sai-kun appeared?!â
ââŚâŚâ
Ahh, I canât muster up any strength to retort them. Normally, Iâd be energetic enough to raise my voice hereâŚ
âMmm, rather than a new girl, Iâm an old one, I guess.â
âW-What did you say?! Youâre a girl he went out with even before me?!â
âHey, Amanashi Nui. Donât create some fake reality. No, rather than thatââ
But, what cut through Karen-kaichouâs words were the sounds of small footsteps.
âM-MotherâŚâ
âAhh, Muku. Been a while, huh. Iâm glad that youâre in good spirits. Though Makoto-kun looks like heâs about to die though.â
Before I could even retort the three, a fourth person arrived. It was the return of Shinju Muku. And, the person going âOpen wide~â in front of me, the âOld girlâ, Shinju Kouko.
âKouko-senseiâŚWelcomeâŚâ
âSeems like I came here at a good time. I have to say that seeing Makoto-kun being so popular really boosts my ego.â
The smile she showed wasnât all too different from her time as a kindergarten teacher. Even though over 10 years mustâve passed, it feels like sheâs some sort of apparition, not showing age like thatâŚ
Karen-kaichou now had to help out in the cloister, while Nui had some lessons awaiting her, so the both of them quickly made their way home. Though they seemed quite interested in the existence of Kouko-sensei. I have to thank them that they went out of their way to look after me, even though theyâre so busy. But, if I couldâI wish theyâd stayed a bit longer.
âMotherâŚIâm already Saigi Kuu. I wonât listen to your words.â
âI donât care about your name, but I wonât disregard your childish acts like this.â
Grumble grumble grumble grumble , the pressure in the room was clearly audible.
The mother and daughter Shinju were currently sitting next to my bed, facing each other. Though this situation couldâve been avoided if only Nui or Karen-kaichou stayed a bit longer.
âI was actually planning on taking you home for good now, but it seems like this situation right here has precedence. Makoto-kun, did your fever go down?â
âThis morning, it was about 38° degreesâŚâ
âI-Iâll be the one to nurse him back to health! Since Iâm way younger than him, Iâll be able to look after him even if he gets older!â
âNo, letâs not go further with thatâŚâ
Thereâll only be six years between us, so will this really matter?
âFu, your mother is still a former kindergarten teacher, you know. Iâm well versed when it comes to looking after children! Nobody else is the Healing Sensei but me!â
âThatâs right, yeahâŚâ
Isnât she just putting things together how she wants because my memories are rather hazy from back then? Well, itâs true that she hasnât really changed since then. Just like Kuu, sheâs the rather domicile-type too. Before, she had her hair short, but now it reached down all the way to her back while loosely bound together. Currently, she was wearing a long-sleeved shirt, with slim jeans. On her left ring finger, I could clearly spot her sparkling wedding ring.
âJust leave this to the adults, Muku. Iâd love to take him to the hospital, but he certainly wouldnât like that. A kid like alwaysâŚâ
ââŚA hospital is just going overboard. Itâll be all better by tomorrow, I tell you.â
âThen, this Kouko-sensei will stay over for the night. You wouldnât mind that, right?â
âNo, Iâd feel bad for your husband, so I have to decline!â
Bad, really bad. Thereâs a really high chance that the person living next to us will be wrapped up into this. If she found out about this, blood will flow, and she probably wouldnât care whose it is.
âRather than that, Kuu. Itâd be bad if you catch my cold, so distance yourself away from this room. Miharuâs home as well, right? How about you play with her?â
ââŚUuuâŚâ
For a change, I actually got glared at by Kuu.
âSenseiâŚIâm not a kid anyâŚNo, I shouldnât worry Sensei like this. Iâll go play with Miharu-oneechan thenâŚRoll for her gacha a bitâŚâ
âKuuâŚ?â
She really seemed like she wanted to say something. But, without bringing that out, she trotted out of my room.
âFu, Muku still got a long way in front of her. To give up with something like that.â
ââŚIs there really a need to fight with your 5th grader daughter?â
âMakoto-kun should know that weâd both come to see you. No matter the circumstances, a girl is still the enemy of another girl.â
âNo, I think that youâre just a special nutcaseâŚâ
At the very least, my mother and little sister are not fighting.
âWell, donât mind me. Just go back to sleep, and Iâll prepare some dinnerâŚGuess Iâll leave Muku a bit longer like that.â
âWe donât particularly mind. She feels like a pet cat anyway at times.â
âMaybe that girl just prefers the Saigi household over her own?â
âSo you, her mother, is admitting it?â
âIn this house, thereâs her beloved âSenseiâ to whom she even handed the love letter after all.â
ââŚâŚâŚ?!â
âAhh, Makoto-kun, donât just jump up like that. Your fever will go up you know?â
Of course Iâd jump upâŚ!
Though quite some time has already passed since Kuu gave me the love letter, thereâs no way I could forget about it. Just like the confession of the other three girlsâŚ
âW-Why does Kouko-sensei know of thatâŚ?â
âParents, you see, they know more about their children than the children know themselves. Even if Makoto-kun doesnât think so, we parents have a lot of ways to keep our children in check.â
ââŚWell, our parents are really home after all.â
Except Miharu, whoâs got the GPS on my phone hackedâŚ
âOh yeah. But, thereâs so much more that you didnât think they would know. Not to mention that Kuuâs the type thatâs bad at hiding things. She even came to me with the old âItâs about a friend of mineâ story to ask me for advice about the love letter.â
âKuuâŚâ
Saying âItâs about a friend of mineâ is basically the same as âItâs about meâ.
âMy, Makoto-kun. You wonât be able to laugh about this story for much longer, you know?â
âEh?â
âMuku doesnât just look like me, but her body itself is the same as mine. Give her 2-3 more years, and she can probably play you like a fiddle, you know?â
âThatâs quite the scary future to imagineâŚâ
Iâm already being cornered by all these women, including Maka-sensei. If I were to lose my grip on Kuu, I donât think my mental stability can hold out much longer.
âBut, this is what I mean. You might regret it if you only see Muku as a kid, you know?â
ââŚIsnât she just a kid? I mean, I wouldnât even count as an adult.â
âThereâs not just an adult or a kid, thereâs also the in-between.â said Kouko-sensei, as she put a hand on my forehead.
Ahhh, her hand feels so coldâŚSo soothingâŚ
âEven this fight, it was nothing more than a pretense, or rather, I was waiting until I could use this as a pretense. I wanted Kuu to have a reason to come here. To be precise, next to Makoto-kun.â
ââŚIsnât that exactly what a kid would do?â
âIâll say this upfront, but Kuu is even older right now than the freshly betrayed Makoto-kun back then, you know?â
ââŚSaying it without hesitation I see.â
It feels like all the resentment I had back then is slowly creeping up again. Of course, it only feels like that, okay?
âKnowing the obstinate Makoto-kun, and your horrible way of dealing with things, youâll probably make Muku follow you for all eternity.â
âWhat kind of threat is thisâŚâ
Well, I can see that happening, I guess.
And sheâs not wrong about it. After being confessed to by Kuu, I ran away. Saying âIâm going out with Maka-senseiâ as an excuse. But, I canât run away like that forever. Just like the whole incident with Kouko-sensei back then as well⌠it was all just an excuse.
ââŚHey, donât make me think about any problematic stuff while I got a cold.â
âAhh, sorry about that. Iâll take care of the household, so you go take a nap.â
âSorry about thatâŚâ
Though I feel kind of weird for asking Kouko-sensei like that, Miharu would probably make everything burn up in flames, with me still sleeping here.
âAh, but before that. Can I say one more thing before I go?â
âI donât even care anymoreâŚJust go aheaâWhat are you doing?â
At the same time I gave my response, Kouko-sensei pushed only her head under my blanket.
âAhhh, Muku, please come backâŚ! Your mother is really lonelyâŚ!â
ââŚâŚâ
She was screaming in a quiet voice beneath my blanket. Probably to make sure that Kuu donât hear herâŚWhy not just be honest and tell her? Sheâs at a decent age, but she canât be honest about the weirdest places. But, I guess that makes senseâŚbeing separated from your still young child, of course youâd be lonelyâŚMaybe, even Kuuâ
Ahh, but the fever is playing with my brain, and I canât think of anything. Thanks to Karen-kaichouâs rice porridge, my bellyâs full, so of course Iâm getting sleepy as wellâŚGood nightâŚ
âMmmâŚâ
Checking the digital clock next to my pillow, I saw that the time was already closing in on midnight. As dinner acted the self-made rice porridge from Kouko-sensei. After preparing dinner for Kuu and Miharu as well, she apparently went home. In the end, I ended up greatly in her debt.
âAhhhâŚâ
I suddenly remembered. Although I survived the consecutive visitor attacks, the last boss was still standing. Although classes only took half the day today, itâd be weird if the teachers got to go home at the same time.
âMmmâŚMmâŚâ
And for some reason, I heard some rather erotic groan next
âMaka-sensei?â
The last bossâMaka-sensei was sitting next to me, resting her head on the bed as she was mumbling in her sleep. So she came to see me, and fell asleep herself? How did she even get in hereâOh yeah, the duplicate key. Iâll have her give that back soon. It would be pretty bad if she suddenly assaulted me while I was sleeping.
âStill, I was sound asleep, huhâŚâ
I really shouldâve been more careful. But, it seems like she needed the sleep even more than me. I was told before that Iâd be good as a teacher, but I might have to rethink that.
âEh?â
Woah, Maka-senseiâs holding my hand. Though she came onto me, half-naked, or even kissing me, holding hands this time? Still, her hand is so soft, stimulating, and a bit cold. Probably because of my fever though.
Holding my hand, and visiting me like thisâŚalthough itâs towards a sick person, quite domicile from Maka-sensei if I have to say. Itâd be great if she was always like this. If she were to keep quiet, sheâd have such an amazing style, with these looks, so why is she like that in front of meâŚ
âYou canât, Saigi-kunâŚYouâve become a Papa nowâŚAnd these breasts belong to MakatoâŚâ
âWho the hell is Makato?â
So in her dream, the two of us got a baby alreadyâŚSo even adults see ridiculous dreams like theseâŚ
ââŚHa?! I-I wasnât sleeping!â
âUwa!â
Maka-sensei suddenly jolted up.
âW-Where is this?! What about Makato?!â
âCalm down, Sensei. Thereâs no Makato. This is the house of Saigi Makoto, you sleeping intruder.â
âW-What about my breasts?! Saigi-kun, you wonât suck on my breasts?â
âI wonât suck on anything!â
ââŚSo it was just a dream. Ahh, but Iâm glad that Saigi-kun is aliveâŚâ said Maka-sensei, as she grasped my hand with both of hers.
She really seemed to be happy, her eyes getting a bit wateryâŚAhh, donât cry now pleaseâŚ
âO-Of course Iâm still aliveâŚâ
âYour feverâŚWhat about your fever?!â
âEhâŚ?!â
Without giving me any time to respond, Maka-sensei grabbed my cheeks with both her hands, and pushed her forehead against mine. I know this is something you do to check the other personâs fever, but your face is too closeâŚ
Iâve mostly gotten used to it, but Maka-sensei really is beautiful. As if I could stay calm with her face this close to meâŚ!
âAh, Saigi-kun. Your face is bright red! Your forehead is hot as well! W-Why did you suddenly get a fever again?!â
âI wonder whyâŚâ
The reason for my red face and hot forehead is all you, SenseiâŚ
âLeave it to me, an acquaintance of mine is a doctor, and she said I should be on standby for 24/7.â
âWhat kind of black job is thatâŚâ
âItâs because you made me worry this whole time. Are you really okayâŚ?â
Still being forehead to forehead, she made a serious face like never before. Itâs just a coldâŚyou donât have to worry about this much.
âIâll be looking after you, so make sure to get a good rest, okay? I donât know any exact medical treatments, but Iâll do anything I canâŚâ
âS-SenseiâŚâ
Maka-senseiâs eyes started to get watery, and she looked straight into my eyes. Itâs different from her usual attacks during her education, and it feels pretty soothingâ
âHawawawawaâŚâ
âEh?â
Suddenly hearing a mysterious voice, I looked over at the source.
âK-Kuu? What are you doing at a time like this?â
âI-I wanted to act like I was looking after Sensei to crawl into your bedâNo, excuse meâŚâ
Standing in the door frame was a pyjama-wearing Kuu. Her hands in front of her mouth, her body quivering.
âS-Sensei and Maka-chan really were in an adult relationshipâŚâ
âEh? Kuu, what are youââ
Ah, donât tell meâŚ! Because we had our faces togetherâshe saw it as a kiss?! What kind of classic misunderstanding is that?! Though before, Kisou-san also saw us as weâre doing a real kiss, and the vice-principal spotted us as Maka-sensei lifted up her skirt in front of me. But just this once, itâs actually really a misunderstanding!
âWait, Kuu! Youâre wrong, okay?!â
âT-That makes sense, I guess. Sensei and Maka-chan are going out after allâŚâ
âUuuâŚT-ThatâsâŚâ
To think that this misunderstanding would come back to bite me in the butt right hereâŚ
âUuâŚUuuuuâŚAhhhhâŚ!â
âK-KuuâŚ? Why are you suddenly letting out this beast-like voice?â
âB-ButâŚButâŚSensei, you idiot! Maka-chan, you super duper idiot!â
âAh?! Kuu?!â
With that, Kuu ran out of the room without listening to my screams.
âS-Super duper idiotâŚ? Thatâs a new one alright.â
âMaka-sensei, this isnât the time to show admiration⌠Cough Cough âŚMmmâŚ!â
Uwa, those coughs really hurtâŚ
âH-Hey, Saigi-kun, are you okay? Donât get so agitated or itâll get worse, you know?â
ââŚThatâs right. ButâŚI have to clear up the misunderstanding that Kuu has.â
âYou canât do that,â said Maka-sensei. âIâm very happy to see that the two of you are in a fightâThatâs not what Iâm thinking, of course. Like Napoleon once said, âNever interrupt your enemy when he is making a mistakeâ.â
ââŚItâs really suspicious if you go out of your way like that to deny itâŚâ
Just what I would expect from a teacher, always trying to teach me something. This time it was Napoleon huh.
âAnyway, for your own good, as well as Muku-sanâs, youâd be better off just staying quiet now. âA creaking door hangs the longestâ, is what Iâd like to add.â
âDonât test me in English when Iâm already sickâŚâ
âYouâre right. I donât want you to stay sick any longer, and Muku-san is probably the same.â
âIâd like to help your worries there, for my sake as wellâŚâ
âThen, go back to sleep. Youâd hate it if Muku-san got your cold, right?â
ââŚThatâs rightâŚâ
But, not being able to follow this is kind of badâŚEven when Kouko-sensei just taught me that Kuu isnât a kid. Iâm sorry, KuuâŚ
The next morning, or rather, 10am.
When I checked the clock next to my pillow, I got a tiny shock, thinking âIâm going to be late!â in my head, even though itâs Sunday. I must actually be quite the serious student.
âHaaa, after taking a good nap, I feel much better. My head is pretty cleared up as well.â
Seems like the medicine did some good work. Iâm glad that Iâm back to normal this quicklyâŚ
âGuess Iâll try to eat something normal today. I wonder what kind of ingredients we haveâŚâ
Leaving my room, I headed towards the kitchen, which was completely empty. Since my little sister always sleeps until noon on Sundays, it makes sense that she wasnât here. And KuuâŚisnât here either. Since itâs Sunday, maybe she went out to play somewhere? âŚNo, after what happened yesterday, I donât see her having the energy to do that.
âMmmâŚ?â
That moment, I realized the presence of a small note on the kitchen table. Written on there wasâ
âIâm running away. Please donât look for me. Saigi Kuu.â
âSheâs running away while running away?!â
Iâd love to retort on her name, but the situation is more problematic than that!
âThis is badâŚThis is really badâŚ!â
I tried calling Kuu over her phoneâDamn it, itâs not going through!
Panicking, I rushed down the hallway, and opened the door with great momentum.
âMiharu! MIharu, Miharu!â
âUuuâŚSo brightâŚIâm meltingâŚâ
Opening the curtains of her room, the living being in the room slowly started moving.
âW-What is itâŚOnii-chanâŚ? Are you finally sneaking into Miharuâs roomâŚ?â
âItâs morning already! And just get up already!â
Towards this living being, who is weak against the sunlight, I started shaking Miharuâs shoulders. She was probably hot during the night, because she was only wearing her underwear. Her sports bra, with cute pink panties. But, that doesnât matter right now.
âAhh, Kuuâs backpack isnât here!â
Even though she left it here in Miharuâs room.
âMmmâŚ? Youâre right. Itâs gone. Did Kuu-chan go home?â
âShe ran away!â
ââŚRunning away while running awayâŚ? Quite active I see.â
The proof that weâre blood-related. Our reactions were identical.
âI couldnât call her either. I think that LINE isnât going to work either.â
âWell yeah, thatâd be pretty weird when sheâs running away.â
âOkay, Miharu! Find Kuuâs location!â
âMiharu isnât like Ale*a, you knowâŚCalm down, Onii-chan, really.â
Combing through her hair with one hand, Miharu took out a smartphone.
ââŚYeah, sheâs not answering Miharuâs calls eitherâŚMaybe she thinks of Miharu as Onii-chanâs allyâŚKinda sad.â
âYour statement makes me just as sad, but thatâs not important right now.â
âMiharu didnât prepare anything with Kuu-chanâs phone. What a blunder. But, Miharu will go search for her.â
âThough Iâm really curious about what you put in other peopleâs phones, Iâll go out.â
The places she would visitâŚher usual course, I guessâŚNoâ
âNekoranya sounds pretty plausible. Miharu, you stay at home and contact me if Kuu comes back.â
âW-Wait Onii-chan, what about your cold.â
âItâs all good now. Well then, see you later.â
âEh, ahâŚthis idiotic older brotherâŚ!â
Though I heard a rare diss coming from Miharu, I skillfully ignored that.
Ahh, what am I even doing right now. This is completely different from when Kisou-san or the vice-principal spotted us. Kuuâactually fell in love with someone like me.
That was the one thing I wasnât allowed to show her. Thatâs right, back at our emergency meeting to save Nekoranya, she showed clear rivalry towards Maka-sensei. In a certain way, Maka-sensei must be a special existence to Kuuâ
And, seeing that Maka-sensei together with me in such a position, of course sheâd receive quite the shock. IâŚhurt Kuu. Even more than what Kouko-sensei did to me. Thatâs whyâ
I have to find her immediately.
After leaving my house, I dialed the number of Nekoranya. A grade schooler shouldnât have that many opportunities to move right nowâŚand Iâd be glad if I found her at the first spot.
ăCheckmate King, here is white Rook, go ahead!ă
âI donât understand your weird nicknames, Sekiya-san!â
ăCome on, you donât even watch the newest war dramaâŚThe times have changed, I see.ă
Iâm sure that she mustâve seen my number on the screen, which is why sheâs acting like this, but does she do that with every other caller as well?
âRather than that. About Kuu, Shinju Muku, did she perchance go visit you?â
ăMmmm? Muku-chan came by today before the store opened, but she didnât seem to be in good spirits, so I lent her Kagome. Of course, with the managerâs permission.ă
âEh? Lent her KagomeâŚAnd where did she go?â
ăEh? She didnât come home? Itâs beenâŚMm, about thirty minutes since she left, I guess?ă
âFor nowâŚit seems like she really came to Nekoranya.â
Though, I thought I might be getting a lucky first hit, I was a tick too late. Also, I knew some friends of her, but not their phone numbers or where they live. Although, itâd be pretty weird if I actually didâŚ
âSekiya-san, thank you very much. And, if Kuu comes by again, please stop her there and give me a call.â
ăStop herâŚLeave it to me, and go on ahead! is what I wanted to say at least once, but to think that itâs because of a little girlâŚă
âEnough of that, okay? Iâll tell you the details later.â
Thatâs one possibility down. And it was pretty close. If she was there around 30 minutes ago, she canât have wandered off that far. And, she has a cat with her. Probably in a carry-bag. She probably has to muster up a lot of strength to move right now. Though thereâs the possibility of her taking the train or the bus, then Iâd have to wonder where sheâd even go. Thinking about Kuuâs personality, the chances that sheâs daddling around the neighbourhood is pretty high. That girl loves to take walks after all.
âAlright, letâs go to Nekoranya for now, and start searching in the surroundingsââ
NekoranyaâŚNekoranyaâŚNormally, itâs not the furthest in distance. But, it feels really distant right nowâŚMaybe my body is still not back to its original strength? Iâd have to go back to the flat, walk towards the train station, take the train, and walk even further to the NekoranyaâIt feels so, so far.
ââŚâŚMmm?â
Or so I thought, until it happened.
âI made you wait, Saigi-kun.â
âAh, there it is! That red fiat! To think Iâd meet it a second time in this short period!
And of course, the one that invited me in was Maka-sensei. Although it was a school-free day, she was rocking her blouse and mini skirt combo.
âI-I wasnât waiting or anythingâŚSensei, why are you here?â
âIâm not here to monitor your home today. I received some emergency information, so I brought out the car.â
âSeems like my little sister is quite the worrywart if she wants to.â
Though I was a bit worried after I left her at home, she mustâve sought help from Maka-sensei. Since Kuu could come home anytime, one of us had to stay at home after all. Because of that, she calmly deduced that she has to ask help from others in searching.
âReallyâŚthough your fever is down, you canât just force yourself like this.â
âI have some responsibility because of yesterday, so I canât just let her run around.â
âI really donât want to do thisâŚbut, okay, come in.â
Both Maka-sensei and I opened the door and sat into the fiat.
âThis is the first time that this red fiat actually looks a bit reliable.â
Though I once heard the BGM of Ja*s once while she approached me, it feels like more Ter*inator today, and quite promising.
âIâm sorry, Sensei. Making you come with me even though itâs your free day.â
âIâm also responsible in this incident with Muku-san. If itâs for the sake of a run-away grade schooler, even the vice-principal wouldnât complain about this.â
âEven if the president got mad at you, Iâd still have you help out.â
âKya, so bold. But, I donât dislikeâthat Saigi-kun!â
Maka-sensei gave a mischievous smile, and accelerated. And thus, another drive with her started, barely not breaking any rulesâ
ââŚWait, Maka-sensei. Where are we even going?!â
âAh, I didnât ask about that. Dear Guest, your destination?â
ââŚFor now, to Nekoranya.â
âUnderstood! Please hold on tight!â
Another mischievous smile, and she stomped unto the pedal, to which the engine let out a loud roar.
âHumans are supposed to be standing on this earthâŚâ
âSaigi-kun, Saigi-kun, you can come back now. Itâs fine, donât worry, you can always come back to my chest.â
ââŚâŚâ
Boing boing , I was about to be pulled into her chest.
In the end, for a brief moment, the red fiat seemed as reliable as an artificial intelligence from Cyberd*ne.
(T/N: Cyberdyne: Cyberdyne is a Japanese robotics and technology company most noted for the marketing and distribution of the HAL 5 robotic exoskeleton suit.)
But references aside, how can she drive this wildly, while still keeping all road traffic regulations.
âThis isnât the time to be doing thisâŚWe have to search for Kuu.â
We left the fiat in a nearby parking space. Standing next to Maka-sensei, we started walking. Since Kuuâs carrying a cat, she probably doesnât walk next to the main street. In the one in a million chance that Kagome jumped off her, itâd be really dangerous to be too close to any cars. Not to mention that Kuu is used to walking down small passageways like a cat. Thatâs my conclusion, as someone who knows Kuu very well.
âBut stillâŚto think that sheâd run away even from my home. I donât remember raising her like that.â
âI can see that, since itâs you weâre talking about. But, since you know her the best out of us, you must have an idea or two of where she would go, right?â
ââŚI have no idea. Although Kuu calls me âSenseiâ, but I didnât do that much for her.â
âI donât think that the person in question thinks like that.â
âWhaâ?â
Suddenly, Maka-sensei tightly grasped my hand.
âW-What is it, Sensei? Eh? Sensei, arenât you cold?â
âItâs not me whoâs cold, itâs you whoâs still hot. You probably donât realize it, but youâve been swaying a bit here and there.â
ââŚâŚâŚSeriously?â
I had no ideaâŚ
âBut, if people saw us like this, there would be another weird rumourâŚ.â
âIf Iâd get fired for looking after a sick student, then I wouldnât want to work there anyway.â
âSo cool, Maka-senseiâŚâ
Even without putting up a character, there are times when, just as Hoshina-sensei said, she has those âwonderfulâ parts about her.
âI really am not worthy to be a âSenseiâ. I canât win against the real deal.â
âNo, youâre wrong about that, Saigi-kun.â
Maka-sensei slightly shook her head.
âSince Muku-san calls you like that, youâre a Sensei. Of course, not a real one. It depends on how you answer her feelings.â
ââŚSometimes, you really say something teacher-like, Maka-sensei.â
âI can see some contradiction in your words?! Teacher-likeâŚIâm a real teacher! Iâm your girlfriend and your teacher, for short, a Kanojo Sensei!â
âWhat kind of weird title is thatâŚâ
I know that weâre faking this as a countermeasure for SID, but she makes it sound like itâs the real deal.
âAnd, as your Kanojo Sensei, I canât leave my boyfriend pupil alone like this.â
âEven giving me such a weird titleâŚAnd, you donât have to worry that much.â
âWhat if your cold worsens again and you canât come to school tomorrow? What meaning is there for me if I canât see you?â
âHow about doing your job properlyâŚ?â
âAs sharp-tongued as always. Ah, perfect timing, thereâs a bench over there.â
Maka-sensei pointed at a park thatâs next to the street weâre walking on. So there was a park like this so close to Nekoranya. Surrounded by trees and bright-green grass, a park filled with a lot of nature. Maybe itâs because itâs Sunday, but a mass of people were taking a walk right now.
Entering the park, I sat down on an open bench.
âŚAhh, the moment I sit down, all my strength leaves meâŚMaybe I really overdid it todayâŚ?
âMmmâŚYour face has lost some color again. Saigi-kun, Iâll look for Muku-san. Iâd be better if you goââ
âItâs fine. My feverâs down, so something like this shouldnât be that much to handââ
ââŚMakoto-kun!â
âEh?â
The person calling for me, running towards us, was Kouko-sensei.
âKouko-senseiâŚwhy are you here?â
âI got a call from Miharu-chan, saying that Muku ran away from your home.â
âAhhhâŚâ
So Miharu didnât just contact Maka-sensei it seems. Well, I guess I shouldâve called her even before I asked Nekoranya.
âBut, she didnât come.â
âWell yeah, sheâs still technically running awayâŚBut, how good of you to figure out that I was here.â
âI heard that you were heading to the cat cafe. I was searching around this area as well.â
âYouâre quick to move as well, Kouko-senseiâŚâ
This probably isnât a coincidence that I met her here. This park is pretty wide after all, so she was probably heading right for this specific place.
âAhh, forget about that. Makoto-kun, what were you doing! Why did Muku even run away from your home?!â
ââŚIâm sorry, itâs my fault.â
Should I tell Kouko-sensei the circumstances or not⌠Though it seems like Kouko-sensei knows very well about Kuuâs feelings. Still, Iâd have to explain my relationship with Maka-sensei thenâŚ
âUhm, Iâm sorry, Shinju-san. This is my fault.â
âEh? Iâve been wondering for a while, but who is this beauty you have with you?â
âAhh, sheâs my classâ homeroom teachââ
âIâm Fujiki Maka. I live in Saigi-kunâs neighbourhood, and wanted to assist in searching for your daughter.â
âThanks for thatâŚIâm Shinju Kouko.â
Very civilized, the teacher and former teacher gave a formal greeting with a slight bow.
âI seeâŚso this is the ancestor of that witchâŚâ
After mumbling something to herself, Maka-sensei once more turned towards Kouko-sensei.
âI am, uhmâŚlooking after Saigi-kun until heâs back to normal health. At the same time, that happened to bring forth this misunderstanding that led to your daughter running away.â
ââŚMisunderstanding? No, looking after? No matter how close you live, would a high school teacher look after a sick studentâŚ?â
âUghâŚâ
Kouko-sensei, sharpâŚor well, thatâs an expected question I guess. Damn itâŚThereâs one doubting person after the other.
âNo, the reason doesnât matter. It was my fault to begin with. Makoto-kun is still a kid after allâŚEntrusting a kid to another kidâŚthis is what I get.â
ââŚâŚâ
I canât say anything to that. Sheâs completely right. In the eyes of society, Iâm still a child, and there are a mountain of things I canât do.
âPlease wait a moment, Shinju-san.â
ââŚWhat is it?â
âItâs true that he might still be a kid, butâŚheâs not at the age where he canât take responsibility. Youâve been his teacher once as well, so you should be able to put trust into himââ
âItâs true that Makoto-kun was my pupil, but for me, Muku is much more important! Iâm sorry about this, but I donât have the time to care for him!â
Kouko-sensei declared that with a sharp voice. Seeing as how a woman like her can make this serious face, she must really be worried about her daughter. Thatâs rightâŚThis woman isnât my âKouko-senseiâ anymore, but rather âThe mother of Shinju Muku.
âThen, having Saigi-kun as my pupil, I treasure him more than Muku-san. If I may be so rude, you play him for your mistakes. And now you even want to take away his responsibility?!â
âH-Hey Sensei, this isnât the time to be fighting like thisâŚâ
âBe quiet, Saigi-kun! This is a problem between me and Shinju-san!â
âEh?!â
Werenât you talking about me?!
ââŚMakoto-kun, is just as she says. This isnât something you should be participating.â
âIâm glad if you understand. And also, whatâs with this âMakoto-kunâ here âMakoto-kunâ thereâŚ! Being so friendly, even I didnât call him by his first name yetâŚ!â
Although she was muttering to herself, I could hear her clearly. Apparently, Maka-sensei had quite the grudge against Kouko-sensei.
âYou seem to be quite close to Makoto-kun, but following Muku, heâs the second most important person to me.â
âI feel bad for your husband.â
I threw in a retort without thinking. So her long-yeared love is finally losing its touch?
âInterestingâŚFufu, alright. Very well, I was getting tired of the small girls from SID anyway.â
âI have no clue what youâre on about, but let me say this. Iâm Makoto-kunâs first love.â
âWhaâ! Y-Youâre going to bring out that right off the batâŚ?!â
Alrighty, just what exactly did this conversation devolve into? It seems like everyone around me is unable to hold a decent conversationâŚ
âRight now, the teacher responsible for Saigi-kun is me! Only me, okay!â
âFor this teacher-hating kid, Iâm the only special teacher. HeheâŚno matter how hard you work, you can never hope to win against Makoto-kunâs first love.â
âUghâŚYou damnedâŚ!â
Did Maka-sensei just go âdamnedâ?
âAhh, this isnât the time to be fighting like this. Iâll be searching for Muku, so you stay here Makoto-kun.â
âIâll be the one to find Muku-san! Saigi-kun, just wait for me! If it gets too tough on you, make sure to call me!â
Without waiting for my response, these childish adults dashed and left me behind in the park.
You people, this isnât a competition or anything, you know? But still, to think that Maka-sensei and Kouko-sensei would be this bad of a match-up. Well, I just have to pray that she hasnât caught on to Maka-senseiâs âromantic feelingsâ for me.
Still leaning back on the bench, I let out a deep sigh. To think the day would come this quickly where Maka-sensei and Kouko-sensei would meet each other like this. And I pray that this doesnât happen again. Iâd like to get something to drink now, but I canât muster up enough energy. Even though Kuu is completely aloneâwell, only with a catâIâm wasting time like this. Letâs hope that these childish adults find her soon.
âAhhhhâŚâ
On top of the green grass in the park, some kids were playing catch right now. They should be younger than Kuu. Man, do all kids have that much energy to spare? Well, Kuu might actually look younger than she actually is. Look, thereâs even a girl with the same hairstyle like Kuu. Even the backpack she has on her back, itâs the same type that Kuu brought with her. With a bag made for cats, sheâs sitting on top of the grass. The cat inside also looks just like Kagomeâ
âHey, itâs Kagome herself! With Kuu!â
âAhâŚ?!â
Though we were separated by about 10 meters, she mustâve heard my voice as she frantically turned towards me. Of course, she wanted to run away immediately, but she hit the emergency brakes, and dove forward onto the grass. She probably forgot about Kagome that very second.
âO-Ouch ouchâŚâ
âWhat are you doing, Kuu.â
âI cannot leave Kagome-chan hereâŚCats are the only thing left for me after all.â
âThis isnât âThe Wonderful World of Puss nâ Bootsâ okay.â
Holding her red nose, Kuu slowly got up.
âAre you okay? You didnât graze anything, right?â
âI-Iâm fineâŚW-Wait, Sensei! S-Shouldnât you be sleeping! W-What about your cold?!â
âItâs gone already.â
âThatâs a lie. You looked like a salaryman who is forced to go to his work at the company as you were sitting on that bench! I saw you!â
âKuu, I think your image of a salaryman is a bit outdated.â
âA-Anyway, Sensei, donât force yourself! I will even get angry!â
âMy ears hurt a bit, but what about you? The only time youâre allowed to run away is when you come to our house. Other than thatâNo running away.â
ââŚI-Iâm sorryâŚâ
Kuu immediately lowered her head.
âYup, apologizing when itâs appropriate is one of Kuuâs good traits.â
ââŚBefore, I never did. My father wouldnât get mad anyway, and when Mother and I were fighting, neither of us apologized. But, Sensei taught me the importance.â
âThat happened yeahâŚhow arrogant of me.â
It feels weird that Iâd be teaching somebody to show manners.
âBut, youâve really been close-by.â
âIâm happy that I came to Nekoranya, butâŚmy money ran out, so I couldnât use the bus or train, so I could only go to the nearby parkâŚâ
ââŚWell, that makes sense.â
Though she gets a certain amount of pocket money, itâs nearly not enough for a longer trip. Makes sense that she wouldnât be able to travel further away.
âLetâs go home, Kuu. Miharu is worried about you.â
When I wanted to pick up the cat cage for Kagome, Kuu shook her head. Taking her bag, she stood in front of me.
âAndâŚIâm sorry, Kuu. Uhm, showing you something weird like thatâŚâ
It makes sense that Kouko-sensei would blame me. And, she didnât have the wrong idea about Maka-sensei eitherâŚ
âKuu, even though you confessed to me, Iâve always been running away from properly responding, right. Sorry, Kuu.â
Thinking about it, out of all the people of SID, I doubted Kuuâs feelings the least. But, I just thought that they were meant like feelings for an âOnii-chanââŚ
âIâm sorry, Kuu. I also like you. But thatâsâŚonly the âlikeâ I would have towards a little sister. Iâm reallyâŚsorryâŚâ
ââŚThis is not something that Sensei should apologize for. Iâm probably just too much of a kid.â
For a second, Kuuâs eyes went wide, only for her gaze to wander all over the place.
âKuu is not the one at fault here. Itâs true that youâre a kid, but I shouldnât have treated you like one. Since you gave me a love letter, I shouldâve given you a response as soon as possible.â
âNo, it makes sense, being suddenly confessed to like that. Not to mention, by such a kid like me. I knew that I had no chance from the start. But, thank you for giving me your response, SenseiâŚâ
She scrubbed her eyes clean, and took my hand.
âSince Iâm a kidâŚthere are tons of things that I donât know. I donât really get whatâs between Sensei and Maka-chan. But even without knowingâI lost the confidence to look Sensei straight into the eyes. Thatâs why I couldnât stay at your home anymore.â
ââŚâŚâ
In her eyes, I probably look like an adult. She probably doesnât understand the relationship between me and Maka-sensei. No, even Iâm not so sure I know whatâs going onâŚ
âThis might sound arrogant again, butâŚIf you donât know something, think about it, and if you still donât get it, ask another person, and once you analyzed thatâyouâve become an adult, donât you think?â
ââŚSo Sensei is an adult?â
âFar from it. Maybe itâs because Iâm not the type to ask when I donât understand anything.â
âSensei should be a bit more honest thenâŚâ
âIâm trying my best.â
Not much changed about me in all those years, I guess.
âLetâs go back to Nekoranya, Kuu.â
I pulled on Kuuâs hand as I started walking.
âEverytime I canât do anything on my own, Sensei is always pulling me along with his handâŚâ
âAre you talking about the time when you freshly entered the grade school division?â
Within her truancy, I took her by the hand, to the school alrightâŚNo matter how much I forget in my daily life, this is one thing that I can clearly remember.
âI didnât change at all from back then. I was always a kid, waiting for Sensei to take me by the hand.â
âThatâs not true. I just walked to school together with you, nothing more.â
âFrom my point of viewâŚSensei seems to know anything, but you donât seem to know what you actually did for other people.â
ââŚIâm starting to work on that, at least recently.â
I even forgot the reason why Maka-sensei and Nui fell in love with me. Being so hung up on that one incident with Kouko-sensei, I didnât look at my surroundings all this time. No, maybe I just canât look back properly exactly because of that incident?
âI wonder if Kagome-chan is going to be okayâŚI stuffed her into this tight spaceâŚIt must be pretty uncomfortable.â
âTo me, it looks more like that âIâm happy to be carriedâ face. Sheâs always in the cat cafe, so some change of atmosphere might do her pretty good, you know?â
âYou can never know a catâs feelings. Sensei, do you remember? Before, I was really bad with cats.â
âEh? Is that soâŚAh, well, I feel like that was the caseâŚâ
Back then, when we met a stray cat, and Kuu started crying as she came closer. Back when Kuu didnât go to school, we often took some walks. She was really scared when some cats came towards herâŚ
âYou mean to tell me that I taught you that cats can be cute or something?â
âThatâs right. Since Sensei like cats, hating them was the one thing you didnât allow me.â
âI-Is that soâŚ?â
It seems like I wasnât just all about spoiling Kuu in the past. And, although Iâm not on the same level as the current Kuu, I even loved cats back then, huhâŚ
âSensei taught meâtaught Kuu how to have fun with cats. Because of that, Kuu also fell in love with cats. While searching for them, we would always gradually get closer to school, and thatâs why I ended up being able to go to school againâŚâ
ââŚThe past me shouldâve taught you some more useful thingsâŚâ
I donât remember doing that at all.
âTeaching Kuu all those important things, helping her go to school againâŚthereâs no way she wouldnât fall in love with you, Sensei.â
ââŚâŚâŚâŚKuu.â
Just like Maka-sensei and Nui, Kuu had a reason to fall in love with me. Although itâs completely obvious, I had no clue about thatâŚ
âIt seems like Kuu really is just a kid. Although she knows that her feelings for Sensei are real, be it Miharu-oneechan, Nui-oneesan, or Kaichou-oneesan, I donât know if they have the same feeling. Maka-chan too, maybeâŚâ
âThereâs no need to compare yourself to Maka-sensei or the others from SID, Kuu. Those feelings only belong to you.â
âOkay, Sensei. Is it okayâŚif I treasure this feeling?â
âYeah. Of course you can, Kuu.â
âCan weâŚhold hands a bit longer while we walk home?â
âYeah, letâs do that,â I nodded, and returned Kuuâs grip.
Since Kuuâs smiling right now, I guess this was a success.
âAh, Saigi-kun, Muku-san!â
Leaving the park, after we walked for a bit, Maka-sensei came walking towards us from across the street. Seems like she was searching in the parkâs surroundings. Looking around us, we were right next to the parking lot we left the red fiat at.
âAh, Maka-chan?! So you came here with Maka-chan, Sensei! I like cats, but I hate thieving cats like her!â
âYouâre totally adding the -chan now! Saigi-kun, teach her some manners towards older people! ASAP!â
âDonât just push that onto meâŚâ
And what are you getting so agitated for, you 24 year old.
ââŚMm? Muku-san, were you crying?â
âI wasnât crying!â
âYouâre clearly red beneath your eyesâŚSaigi-kun, making a girl like her cry, youâve become quite the bad man I see. When did you turn into thisâŚâ
âIsnât that what you would call becoming an adultâŚ?â
I donât know if Senseiâs happy or not. Whatever it is, it seems like Kuu managed to get back on the normal rival stage. Seems like Maka-senseiâs occasional childishness turned out useful.
âWell, Iâm glad that you found her. Letâs go home then, Miharu-san must be worried too. Ah, Muku-san, Iâll go take the bag and cage. It must be heavy, right?â
And Kuu obliged without any complaints. Returning to the place she parked the fiat, she loaded these two into the trunk.
âAhh, what should we do about the cat? Should we take her back to Nekoranya?â
ââŚAhh, yeah.â
Checking inside, Kagome was looking outside with a nonchalant expression. Oh right, the whole reason this situation started was because of this cat anyway.
âListen, Kuu, how aboutââ
âMukuâŚ!â
Just when I was about to make a proposition, my sentences got cut by a rather meek voice.
âIâm so gladâŚ! Ah, so Makoto-kun was the one that found you! Iâm so glad!â
âMotherâŚ?â
The person dashing towards us with great momentum, taking Kuu into her arms was none other than Kouko-sensei.
âReally, you shouldâve contacted me if you found her, Makoto-kun!â
âI-Iâm sorryâŚIt just slipped my mindâŚâ
âNo, itâs fine that he didnât,â muttered the young girl.
Well, if I contacted her right off the bat, I wouldnât have been able to give a response to her confession.
ââŚWhat, Muku? You want to say something? Even running away from Makoto-kunâs homeâŚIâm always worrying about you.â
âIâm sorry, butâŚâ
It seemed as if Kuu wasnât sure what to say, as she started fidgeting.
âThatâs right, Kuu. Coming to stay at our house is totally fine, but you canât fight all the time with Kouko-sensei. This is the perfect chance, so tell her.â
With a slight tap, I pushed Kuu forward.
âO-Okay, SenseiâŚâ
Kuu gave a small nod, and turned over to look at Kouko-sensei.
âM-MotherâŚApologize to Sensei.â
âEh, to me?â
âTo Makoto-kun? Itâs true that Iâve been in his debt for this, but I repaid all that with giving Miharu some sweets?â
âYou did something like that?! And Miharu, whereâs my share!â
I never heard of this!
âOops, that was supposed to be a secret. Anyway, what should I apologize for.â
âFor deceiving Sensei back then. Sensei says that he doesnât mind, but I donât think that this will end if you donât apologize. Please release Sensei already!â
âUhm, Kuu? Iâm not reallyâŚâ
Just to make sure, Iâm not resenting Kouko-sensei or anything.
âDonât wanna.â
âM-Mother? Youâre always spouting utter nonsense, so why canât you use your mouth properly right now!â
âThatâs one way to scold your mother I guessâŚâ
Maka-senseiâs muttering came from the side lines.
âMuku, this isnât something you should stick your head in. Itâs a problem between your mother and Makoto-kun after all.â
âUghâŚB-ButâŚat this rate, Iâll always be the daughter of the woman who deceived Sensei! No, the daughter of Shinju Kouko! I want him to see me as just Kuu!â
âWhat a selfish kid. Though, this is a first.â
âI-Itâs okay, Kuu. I donât mind it that much. Iâm alreadyââ
âWait a second, Saigi-kun.â
All of a sudden, Maka-sensei was leaning against the fiat, her arms crossed. A beautiful woman, together with a red car, quite the scenery.
âItâs just as Muku-san says. Itâd be better for you to get your conclusion. For Muku-san, as well as for yourself.â
âAgain, Iâm not that hung up onââ
âNow you have the chance to say what you want. Now that youâre still just a child, you can say whatever you want. Once youâre an adult, things you canât say anymore keep piling up.â
ââŚThough this sounds like a good way of phrasing it, but since it came out of Senseiâs mouth, the persuasiveness is a bitâŚâ
I donât think youâre holding back on anything if youâre with me though?
âThough it might be scary to tell her something in all earnesty, itâs fineâIâm here for you.â
ââŚâŚâ
Leaving aside Senseiâs persuasivenessâŚItâs true that I mightâve been scared to face Kouko-sensei head-on. Being afraid to be betrayed one more time. If I didnât use Kuu as my sort-of cushion, I mightâve not even been able to hold a normal conversation with herâ
âGo and tell her, everything. Itâll be fine, whatever the result.â
Maka-sensei stopped crossing her arms, took one step forward, and gave me a hit on my back.
âI (A teacher) will protect you (their students).â
Being hit on the back like that hurt. She probably didnât hold back. ButâI see. I was using Kuu as a wall to block off Kouko-sensei. I didnât want to face her head-onâno, I mightâve been running away even. Of course, at this rate, I wonât be able to face Kuu either. For my sake, as well as Kuuâs sake, I have to put an end to this.
âIâstill like Kouko-sensei, even now.â
âWhaâ! S-Sensei?!â
âW-Wait a second, Saigi-kun! Youâre going with that?! Iâm way younger than her, you know?! Look at me!â
âEh, youâre going for the married woman? Well, itâs not like I donât acknowledge those forbidden relationships.â
Kuu and Maka-sensei suddenly started getting nervous, while Kouko-sensei was looking at me with a bright grin.
âBut, right now, I like you as Kuuâs motherâthe mother of a girl I treasure very much.â
âS-SenseiâŚ!â
With small steps, she came running towards me, clinging to me.
âYou treasure Kuu, right?!â
âYeah, youâre very important to me, and thatâs why your mother is also important to me. Iâm happy if the two of you arenât fighting that much, you see.â
ââŚUgh, being able to cling to him like that, I want to go back to being a small girl as wellâŚâ
That reminds me, I got to see JK Maka-chan, but I got no clue how JC, or JS Maka-chan was like.
âIâm a bit hung up at Fujiki-sanâs reactionâŚbut never mind that. Iâm an adult, as well as a mother. So I should say this right now. Makoto-kun, Iâm sorry. Would you be able to forgive me?â
âOf course. As I told you, Iâve long forgotten about that.â
âThen, remember back to it. And then forgive me.â
âDonât ask for the impossible.â
ââŚBut, actually, I was also pretty hung up on it. You went through Seikadai, always hating the teachers, right? I heard the details from Miharu-chan.â
âSo Miharu really is the information brokerâŚâ
She might look like she doesnât care about anything, but she actually got a good view on things. Guess Iâll have to seriously scold her.
âI canât deny that I hate teachers. But, thatâs not just because of Kouko-sensei.â
âYou haveâŚanother reason?â
âYes, because of Kuu.â
While she was clinging to me, I brought down one hand on Kuuâs head.
âFue? Because of me?â
âWhen Kuu wasnât able to go to school, the teachers didnât do anything. Though it mightâve been too much of a delicate problem in the first placeâŚâ
âWell, itâs a fact that Kuuâs homeroom teacher back then didnât do anything.â
No restraint from Kouko-sensei like always.
âThere are other reasons. Thereâs a classmate of mine, called Amanashi Nui.â
âAhh, that erotic female high school student acting as a gravure model, right? I feel like Iâve seen her in a magazine before.â
âThank god Nui isnât here to hear thisâŚâ
I could totally see her pulling a V-sign. Sheâd totally be happy to be called an erotic female high school student after all.
âBefore she started working in show biz, her responsible teacher told her off. With the reason that it wouldâve been too much trouble to handle.â
âAhh, I can totally see that. Even in kindergarten, there are a lot of teachers that would wish for the kids to calmly sit down. Only because they donât want their job to increase.â
Good that sheâs fast to grasp it. Well, she is a former teacher after all.
âI canât say that me hating teachers has nothing to do with Kouko-sensei. But, the teachers I encountered back in grade school and upwards played a huge role as well.â
As long as you normally go to school, you can find many reasons to start disliking teachers. Really, anybody could end up like me. But, since Iâm the doubtful-type anyway, this hate only grew deeper, and more complicatedâ
âAhh, the reason I became so doubtful is maybe because of Kouko-sensei?â
âSo youâre still turning me into the bad guy! Youâre such a teaser!â
âBad guy, bad guy~!â
Kuu once again clung to me, humming a little melody.
âIâll leave the judgment if youâre a bad guy or not to Kuu. ButâŚthere are some good teachers, some that even come along with me on Sundays like this.â
I threw a glance over at Maka-sensei.
âEven if Iâm not an adult yet. Since I have a teacher whoâs watching over meâŚmy hate for them has slowly started to dwell down. Thatâs why I can openly say that I still like Kouko-sensei.â
ââŚI feel very complicated now,â muttered Maka-sensei.
Maybe sheâs still hung up on me saying that I still like Kouko-sensei.
âHmmmmmâŚâ
Even Kouko-sensei is looking straight at me and Maka-sensei.
âRight now, Iâm Mukuâs mother. Iâll leave the job of being a âteacherâ to that person.â
âYes, only I am Saigi-kunâs teacher. Iâll take him in. Even if he gets hurt, Iâll look over him. If I canât do that, Iâm not worthy of being a teacher!â
Maka-sensei puffed out her chest, while declaring that. Just for the record, Renku-sensei and the vice-principal are also my teachers, you know?
ââŚMaka-chan, that was kinda cool.â
Kuu on her pat seems to be a bit moved at that declaration. Yeah, from time to time, she really is cool.
âMaybe itâs not good for me to call her Maka-chanâŚâ
âMy, Muku-san. Seems like you finally understand.â
âYes. Then, from now on, I will call youâMaka-chansensei!â
âYou still have the -chan!â
âAhahahâ
Yeah, it seems like just as Kouko-sensei estimated, Iâll probably soon lose grip of Kuuâs hand. But, letâs see that as a sign of her growth.
âHey, Makoto-kun. This teacher seems to be able to do the things that I couldnât. The things I didnât do for you.â
ââŚI wonder. Thereâs things I want Maka-sensei to do, but also things I donât want her to do. But, thatâs probably me just being selfish.â
The only thing I know for sure, is that when I was pushing Kuuâs back, Maka-sensei was the one to push mine. And, the people that push others forwardâarenât those the âteachersâ I hate?
For now, Kuu and Kouko-sensei went homeâFirst stop, Nekoranya, and then onwards. Afterward, Maka-sensei and I were left behind in the parking lotâ
âHeheâŚFufuâŚNyanya~â
âW-What is it, Sensei?â
âThanks to me, your hate for teachers has been dwelling down I see. Fufu, you couldâve just said that you love me just now.â
âThis and that are different.â
Maka-sensei, have you forgotten? When I return your feelings, youâll quit your job.
She seemed to be pretty serious about that, and thinking about her personality, sheâll definitely do that. Even so, she really wishes for me to tell her that I like her.
Kanojo Senseiâ
Itâd be really troublesome if things ended up like that, even for me. If I were to lose the teacher that watches over me, what would happen to my hatred for teachers?
âThanks to Shinju-san, I heard something very delightful. Though I still canât forgive her for calling you âMakoto-kunâ all the time.â
âJust when I thought that everything was finally cleared up, youâre still grumpy about thatâŚâ
ââŚBut, Iâm glad.â
âEh? What is it this time?â
âAbout your hatred for teachers. Leaving my feelings aside, having the person I like hate my career is a bit tough.â
âYouâre worrying too much.â
My hate for teachers is just something childish. Nuiâs discomfort might be even stronger and deeper. Even Kuu has a problem with them. But, it seems like sheâs finally enjoying school.
âActually, I like this job. Being a teacher.â
âMaybe this is what they call your âcallingâ?â
âI often thought that I shouldâve become a doctor. But, it seems like I made the right choice. Meeting you, and youâll be able to like teachers if this goes on.â
âYouâre looking into the future way too muchâŚâ
And saying âlikeâ is a bit difficult, you seeâŚ!
âYou really arenât honestâŚAh, thatâs right! We canât have your cold get any worse again, so letâs hurry home!â
âYou donât have to hurry like that, itâs not like Iâll die from thisââ
But then, I realized. If I were to go home with Maka-senseiâŚ! I-Iâd have to go through another nightmare with the red monsterâŚ!
âU-UhmâŚI think Iâll take the train today.â
âWhat are you saying? I have to get you back to your bed faster than any public transport institution!â
âThatâs the scary part!â
Instead of teachers, will I get another trauma when I keep riding with her!
