Chapter 6 – Preparations for Exploration
Helian was at his wits’ end at his office.
The reason behind this was the commanders’ reactions in the audience hall just a while ago.
He tried to consciously behave like a king but he had already made a verbal slip.
And while he did follow up afterwards, he couldn’t help but feel that it ended in failure.
He had witnessed politicians being driven off their position due to a simple slip of the tongue.
Such is the case even against a prime minister of a country. He couldn’t fathom what may turn out to be the trigger for something similar to happen to him.
And once he loses the throne, it’s game over for him.
A player who’s stripped of his ā€˜king’ title is nothing but a normal human being and could be killed off even by puny goblins. As such, Helian wanted to prevent such a situation from ever occurring.
He had already made a verbal slip. Nothing can be done about that now. No point in crying over spilt milk now.
If so, what he should be thinking about now is how to cover or make up for it.
ā€œā€¦.If possible, I would like to uphold my impression as a ā€˜kind king’.ā€
He had stuck with the path of a virtuous king so far.
He had given plenty of consideration to nation tactics and public order and has never waged an aggressive war against other countries, excluding that one time.
In general, he only took fights brought to him and annexed nations like that to create such a large nation. By no means had he acted as a cruel supreme ruler.
Then, what could be done to preserve such an impression?
What could he do as the king when sending his soldiers to investigate unexplored areas where there’s a possibility of lurking threats?
ā€œSending out only a small squad to such dangerous areas and not even seeing them off feels outright wrongā€¦ā€
The investigation in itself was absolutely necessary. He did not think he was wrong in passing down such orders. That said, it probably isn’t right for the king to not even see his brave soldiers off.
It may feel hypocritical to think about this after giving such an order but even then, the path Helian has walked so far as the king didn’t include an option of 'sending your soldiers to their deathā€.
ā€œLet’s start by doing what I can do… As for thinking about the specifics, I will do that after seeing those two off.ā€
That should be an important task as the king.
Besides, the king seeing them off may raise their morale as well.
