Outer sect is a two-person small house* and just so happened to correspond with Shen QingXian’s task requirement. As long as he and Gu JianShen enter the outer sect together then they could live together, the task would be completed, and everyone’s happy.

*屋 – room, house. This was previously translated as room, but after reading the next chapter I decided to change it to house. I fixed this in the previous chapter.

The prerequisite is that the small peach blossom doesn’t cause trouble.

If the small peach blossom also entered the outer sect then he (SY) would definitely want to live together with Shen QingXian.

It’s also a bit hard for Shen QingXian to say: I want to sleep together with my servant.

*Quotes around hair might be that it’s actually not a hair but a thread of spiritual energy that is as thin as a hair

*The comparison to mountains is probably like you know how tall mountains are and how great they look from afar with clouds covering the top and stuff. As for “the blue dome of heaven”, this is what the dictionary gave and it basically means “the sky” but the words in raw are a bit fancy.

Shen QingXian: “……”

Gu JianShen: “……”

Su Yu: “ ! ! ! ”

The remaining people at the scene all had a dumbfounded expression on their faces and it was quite a while before they could register what happened.

Finally, the cultivator responsible for the examination collected his thoughts. The old man* shot to his feet, his beard almost sticking to the sky, “Little…….little fellow cultivator! You…….you…….”

*Old man is referring to the cultivator in the previous sentence. The author decided in this sentence to describe the cultivator as an old man.

Because he was too excited, he couldn’t even speak fluently!

On the other hand, the cultivator next to him was a bit more calm but his face was also red. He excitedly said, “A century….no….a millennium, a genius rarely seen in a millennium! Quickly notify Elder Fu Qing! Quick….quickly….”

福庆 – Fu Qing. 福 – blessing, good fortune, a surname.庆 – celebrate, congratulate, a surname. 庆 can also be a surname but here, 福 is the surname for the guy.

Su Yu had already withdrawn his hand, he dazedly looked at his own palm with a face full of bewilderment…….

What’s going on? Was his Spiritual Qi this ample? That’s not right!

Of course, our Esteemed Lord’s “hair” is powerful, but it’s not to this point.

It’s mainly because when Shen QingXian poured spiritual energy into Su Yu, Gu JianShen also helped with a thread of “hair”

*exploded, as in, exploded with power.

Even if it was only one thread of hair, Su Yu would still be an outstanding person amongst the inner sect disciples. Unexpectedly his spiritual energy was multiplied onefold a second time, one can well imagine how formidable his spiritual energy is right now!

The elder responsible for accepting the new disciples quickly arrived. Seeing the abundant-to-the-point-of-exploding spiritual energy in the water mirror, his face was full of happiness.

Shen QingXian had no other alternative and could only broaden Su Yu’s spiritual field based on its current scale. After clasping Su Yu’s small wrist, he almost jumped from excitement!

“Genius, genius! I heard a few millennium ago, Saint Chi Yang’s spiritual field was also this vast!”

Chi YangZi is Shen QingXian’s second disciples. As of now, he is one of the three Saints, a legend in the legends.

Shen QingXian started recalling a bit….

When Chi YangZi first entered the sect*, I believe that his spiritual power** was indeed ordinary. It fell quite short compared to Mu Xun’s and Xia Ting’s.

*入门 – entered the sect. Chi YangZi is a disciple of SQX and idk if SQX had built a sect, school pavilion, or monastery. I assume SQX didn’t have one so ‘entered the sect’ doesn’t make sense here and would be more like ‘apprenticed/studied under SQX’.

**I don’t remember if I made a note of this before but I’ve been using ‘spiritual power’ and ‘spiritual energy’ interchangeably for 灵力. Based on the context I use one over the other. As for Spiritual Qi, it’s 灵气.

沐熏 – Mu Xun. 沐 – shampoo, cleanse, wash, a surname.熏 – smoke, fume, scent, fragrance.

夏停 – Xia Ting. 夏 – summer, a surname, name of one of China’s dynasty (2070-1600BC). 停 – stop, pause, cease, halt.

It seems that spiritual power like his (CYZ’s) was already considered vast…….he had already known that he should’ve given less…….

In fact, it wasn’t this exaggerated because the succession of teachings were passed from Saint Chi Yang to Ye Zhan so the entire Meridian Monastery blindly worshipped their esteemed Sect Leader. All kinds of mystical legends were capped onto his “old self’s” head just like how Ye Zhan blindly worshipped his ShiZun’s ShiZun, Shen QingXian. This probably was “cross-generation love*”…….

*隔辈亲 – cross-generation love. You know how grandparents love and spoil their grandchildren more than their children, that’s what this means.

Because of these blind worships, what the actualities were, was already unknown to anyone.

Through the entire process, Su Yu had on a face of dumbfoundedness. Only when the Elder wanted to take him away did he then snap out of it: “Please wait, I will first let my friends know.”

The Elder feared that he (SY) would go to another sect so he (the Elder) naturally complied with whatever he (SY) wanted to do.

Su Yu called out, “Chao Yan……”

Shen QingXian sincerely smiled, “Go. In any case, we are in the same sect.”

Su Yu opened his mouth. Many words were hanging at the edge of his mouth but he couldn’t say them.

Shen QingXian nevertheless liked the small peach blossom very much and so, warmly said, “Work hard, don’t fail to live up to…….expectations.”

He hid the words “the Esteemed Lord,” but Su Yu understood. At once, his (SY’s) small face lit up and his entire self also became full of vigor, “En! I will! Let’s work hard together!”

Shen QingXian slightly smiled, his eyes softening.

MF: 😏 I see that aunty/uncle smile (姨母笑/姨父笑).

Gu JianShen stared at him (SQX) for quite a while

After Su Yu left, Shen QingXian’s face turned cold and glared at Gu JianShen, it (the glare) was full of warning.

Gu JianShen whispered: “I don’t want to separate from ShiShu.”

Shen QingXian: “Hehe*.”

*an sfx, meaning is close to like saying “hardy har har”.

Gu JianShen especially loved this (eye) expression of his. He (GJS) scooted over and asked, “Then, what’s ShiShu’s reason for doing so?”

Him giving Su Yu a thread of hair was because he wanted to send him (SY) to the inner sect so that he could spend time alone with Sheng QingXian. Then what about Shen QingXian?

Why was it that he did not hesitate to “cheat” to send the small peach blossom into the inner sect?

Shen QingXian: “……” Isn’t it for the sake of moving bricks!

Of course, he couldn’t say that. Shen QingXian looked at Gu JianShen and answered with a question, “What do you think?”

The corner of Gu JianShen’s eyes and lip were full of smile, “I think that ShiShu is also unwilling to separate from me.”

Shen QingXian replied, “You’re thinking too much.”

T/N: Random note but for the three “think” used above, the first two are 觉得 (I think, I feel, I believe) but the last one is 想 (think, want) so there’s no word play or continuity/parallelism or whatever the word is for the third one, only the first two.

Throwing down these four words*, Shen QingXian went to undergo the examination.

*originally three words but b/c I need to change it up a bit it’s four in English

There were many criterions for entering the outer sect so Shen QingXian could easily grasp it. He didn’t worry about where Gu JianShen would go. This fellow came to Meridian Monastery just because of him (SQX) so presumably, he (GJS) wouldn’t go somewhere else.

As expected, these two entered the outer sect as the same and a coincidence was, even their grades were exactly the same.

Of course, this was intentionally done by Gu JianShen……

To [the people of] Heart Domain, fate and such were preordained by people [themselves].

Entering the outer sect counts as joining* the same sect so task 9 should be marked completed.

*拜入. In c15 and c16, I used ‘enter’ for both 进入 and 拜入 but because of this sentence both 进入 and 拜入 are used so I can’t use ‘enter’ anymore so I decided to use ‘join’ 拜入. IDK if I made a note on this but 拜入 is like 拜师傅 (kneeling down towards a person cause you’re going to take that person as your master/teacher) but instead of “kneeling down” towards a person, it’s a sect and so, you’re studying under that sect and you have to be loyal towards that sect and do everything to bring benefit instead of harm to the sect. Of course, after you “kneel down” towards that sect, you can still kneel down to someone in that sect you want to take as your master. I’ve already made all the corrections in c15 and c16.

However, residing together had not been completed so Shen QingXian did not check the Jade Scroll.

He was originally thinking that because they entered the sect at the same time and are mutually acquainted with one another, they could definitely smoothly live in the same small house. The result was, Meridian Monastery had a drawing lot rule.

The manager said it like this, “Since you’ve all joined Meridian Monastery, then from now on, everyone is a disciple of the same sect! There’s no need to be restrictive of who you will reside with. Let it be decided by fate.”

‘Let it be decided by fate’ my ass. In fact…….the reason why it’s to be decided by drawing lots was because the conditions of Meridian Monastery outer sect’s lodgings were variable.

The Spiritual Qi in some places were abundant and in some places it was dried up. Some places were sturdy stone houses while in others, it was a leaking cogon grass house.

If the disciples themselves decided [their living quarters], it was reckoned that there would be fights. Might as well draw by lot. If one’s luck was not good, then, they couldn’t blame anyone.

Shen QingXian’s eyes became profound. He wanted to find Ye Zhan and have a discussion with him.

Is the sect that poor? Can’t you just properly build an area of cozy and warm two-person small houses?

Ye Zhan who was in the middle of discussing the Dao (quarreling) with Zeng ZiLiang sneezed…..

One could still cheat with drawing lots and this did not pose a problem for His Excellency the Esteemed Lord. However, the problem was, he was behind Gu JianShen. Gu JianShen would draw first so he would have to wait for him to finish drawing before he could draw.

Then the question is.

T/N: This sentence feels incomplete like it should be “Then the question is, (insert question)” and it also feels out of place like it should’ve been before the sentence “However, the problem was, he was behind GJS”. I looked through other platforms but this sentence is placed right here and there’s nothing after it.

Gu JianShen looked at Shen QingXian and softly said, “Looks like it will be hard to live together with ShiShu.”

The meaning of this was: If Shen QingXian did not want to live with him (GJS), then they definitely wouldn’t be able to live together.

But, if Shen QingXian wants to live with him (GJS), then…….

Shen QingXian: Ye Zhan, come here, I guarantee I won’t hit your face.
