Hong Jin Ho is a retired pro-gamer (StarCraft). Heās a strong player, but heās never been first place. Because he got second place a LOT, he was heavily attacked online for never coming first. In Korean, this is called ź¹ģ“ė¤ which literally means āto peel.ā So his fans started saying to stop āpeeling (attacking)ā the bean.
Why the bean? Itās become sort of a legend. No oneās really sure of its origins, but one story (the one that I like) is that a Russian announcer said his name as ā Kong Jin Hoā instead of ā Hong Jin Ho.ā
āKongā is the pure Korean word for bean. In hanja, itās ė (č±), which sounds like the pure Korean word for the number 2. This fits becauseā¦ the whole second place thing. (I feel like a conspiracy theorist.)
Since they started calling him Bean for always being second, it eventually became internet slang for second place. People who always come second place are called Bean.
