Duan Wenzheng fixed his gaze on the caller’s name and icily accepted the call.
“What is it?”
The other line went silent.
“Where’s Xue Lan?”
“Next to me. He hasn’t gotten up. Why?”
“…” Wen Yan recollected that they had spent the entire night together at the Internet cafe the previous day, so he managed to quell his anger. “Put Xue Lan on the phone.”
“Did you not hear me?” Duan Wenzheng laughed. “He’s asleep. If there’s anything you want to say, say it to me.”
“…” Wen Yan said through clenched teeth, “Let him come to LGW. We’re going to discuss the specific arrangements of the contract.”
Duan Wenzheng didn’t seem too surprised. “Not going. Change the day.”
Wen Yan, seeming to be at his wit’s end, said in a low voice, “Why?”
“How come?” Duan Wenzheng said with a cold tone, “I wonder who made him stand outside in the cold for so long yesterday.”
“…” Wen Yan lowered his voice. “Are you still in the Internet cafe? I’ll go…”
Duan Wenzheng let out a long sigh. “There’s no need for that. We’re at his place. Regarding the team, I’ll have him join me when I register tomorrow, so Captain, you don’t have to fret.”
After saying that, he didn’t bother to wait for Wen Yan’s response and hung up.
Things were relatively peaceful now.
As Xue Lan cautiously poked his head out of the bathroom door post-shower, he spotted Duan Wenzheng reclining against the bedhead, engrossed in his phone.
Duan Wenzheng observed his covert actions and found them amusing. He gestured, saying, “Come, take your medicine.”
Xue Lan was relieved to see he had resumed his normal behavior. He walked to the bedside and ate the medicine.
Duan Wenzheng had tuned into a live stream. The sound emanating from the phone was all too familiar and discordant. Xue Lan immediately recognized it as the same streamer from the previous day.
After Duan Wenzheng asked for his address, he sent the keyboard. He wasn’t sure if it had arrived…
“Earlier, LGW made an announcement regarding Meng Qi’s retirement.”
Xue Lan gasped. “That soon?!”
“Mm, the netizens’ reaction is surprisingly all right, and they are no longer questioning why Wen Yan became a special coach for the training camp.” Duan Wenzheng stared at the child with a towel draped over his shoulders and his hair yet to dry. “When Wen Yan was questioned by the media after Huoran’s statement about ‘whether his most favored player was Deng Ruiqiu,’ he said he thinks the assaulter with the best prospects is you.”
Upon hearing that, the light in Xue Lan’s eyes brightened.
Even though Wen Yan had spoken favorably of him before the training camp ended, there was… quite a difference between receiving that praise and being declared to have the best prospects.
Xue Lan couldn’t contain his excitement, but as he looked up, he caught sight of Duan Wenzheng’s displeased stare.
“…”
Xue Lan switched the topic unflinchingly. “What are you watching?”
“After this news came out, several people from the training camp collectively tagged this streamer, making him fulfill his promise from two months ago. But…” Duan Wenzheng said this and handed his phone to Xue Lan before heading to the bathroom. “They may not have expected that this streamer could be this thick-skinned. Regardless of whether many people are currently upset with him, he’s taking advantage of this opportunity to start a live stream and announce… he intends to do a live unboxing of his gifts.”
“…” Xue Lan was struck speechless as he looked at Duan Wenzheng’s phone screen.
He had wondered how the thing he sent only yesterday had arrived so soon, but what made him surprised was…
Behind the streamer was a pile of delivery boxes that had not been opened yet.
This streamer had so many fans?!
Xue Lan skeptically glanced at the barrage. True enough, every comment flooding the screen read:
@CPobsessed: Wow, there are people who are bullying Lanlan to get Yan God’s attention!! And succeeded?!
@RaisingLanYansBanner: I was wondering why Wind suddenly made an appearance on the news!! Turns out there are people who are bullying our Lanlan!!
@LanYanSZD: Apologize now!!
@PowerfulOnlineOffensive: The streamer who has promised to eat the keyboard can get ready!
……
The streamer, surprisingly resilient, maintained a firm demeanor despite a hint of discomfort in response to the deluge of comments on the screen. He skillfully feigned ignorance and began patting the delivery boxes.
“I’ve received so many gifts from fans today, so I’m doing a live unboxing for you all!
“Thank you to all my fans for your unwavering support! I’ve received numerous gifts, and I’m deeply moved!”
Upon hearing the streamer’s words and witnessing the contradictory flood of comments, he abruptly realized the valuable lessons he could glean from the streamer’s unabashed and buoyant demeanor.
Xue Lan, rendered wordless, watched as he was unceremoniously guided to sit on the bed by the person beside him.
Instinctively, he attempted to rise, but Duan Wenzheng firmly pressed down on his shoulders.
“You’ve not tamed those wet locks yet. Aiming for another fever?” he asked, taking the neglected towel from Xue Lan’s shoulders that Xue Lan had left on his shoulders to help with the drying.
Xue Lan held the phone, quietly observing the gentle and attentive individual.
Feeling the weight of a watchful gaze, Duan Wenzheng raised his eyes. Xue Lan swiftly adopted an air of nonchalance as if nothing unusual had transpired and resumed watching the ongoing live stream.
Only to witness the streamer selecting the first package, which happened to be quite sizable.
