Duan Wenzheng’s words left Wen Yan with a numb expression on his face. Surprisingly, the person who had always avoided getting into too many arguments in the past didn’t immediately leave after Duan Wenzheng tried to conduct himself. Instead, he asked, “Is there anything wrong with what I said?”
The smile on Duan Wenzheng’s lips was restrained. “Why does the captain care so much about the private life of a soon-to-be new member?”
Wen Yan’s expression was taut. “Rather than wasting your time asking this, why don’t you reflect if you are overstepping your boundaries and misunderstanding other people?”
“Misunderstand?” Duan Wenzheng raised his brow. “No one is misunderstanding. Compared to myself, with someone who was young and inexperienced and who used to like you… shouldn’t the captain be even more cautious to avoid suspicion?”
“Duan Wenzheng?!”
Duan Wenzheng’s words immediately cast a shadow over Wen Yan’s expression.
Xue Lan listened to the two of them confront each other silently on the sidelines. Despite their strong CP chemistry, it felt like Duan Wenzheng’s current approach was… something that he would come to regret later on.
“Oh right!” With that in mind, he rubbed his hands as he tried to change the subject. “I just bought some late-night food. Let’s eat together…”
But before he could finish his sentence, Duan Wenzheng and Wen Yan flicked their gazes onto him with a glare.
“…” Xue Lan tactfully shut his mouth. Indeed, the world of the protagonists gong and shou could not be intervened by one cannon fodder.
But… what about two cannon fodders?
It was already quite late, and he had just stepped out briefly to pick up the food. Now they were all here, and after standing outside for an extended time, he began to feel a slight chill. He rubbed his hands together and, on the sly, winked at Qi Siyu who was nearby.
Qi Siyu cluelessly asked, “Lanlan, are you cold?”
“…” Calling for assistance failed.
Even though he was cold, he was obviously asking for help…
Xue Lan was about to devise another plan when suddenly the two individuals who had just drawn their swords changed the topic —
“Let’s go in.” Wen Yan cast a glance at Xue Lan and entered the room ahead of everyone.
Xue Lan followed inside, feeling somewhat perplexed. It was uncertain whether these two had such a delayed reaction that they needed a moment to recognize they were either quarreling or hungry, or it could be that Wen Yan had come to the realization that arguing with the three-year-old Duan, who was acting like a little rascal, wouldn’t yield any meaningful outcome.
Anyway, it was still a happy ending!!
Xue Lan returned to his seat. Everyone had congregated around the table, where the food was laid out, engaged in lively conversation and laughter as they readied themselves for the meal.
Seeing the four come back, they called out, “Our ‘training camp’s flower’ has come! We’ve been waiting for you! Come here!”
“Lanlan has a heart now, treating us to late-night food. Tonight we must grind the chip for our training camp’s flower!”
“Don’t just say chip, the name should be specified! You should say stealth plug or flash plug, or else nothing will drop.”
“Hahaha, we have so many people today, I don’t think…”
“But that shield chip is also awesome!”
“That’s right. Hey, why is that brother still over there? Grind later!”
……
Amid all the lively chatter, Xue Lan awkwardly waved his hand, but as the conversation ranged from “training camp’s flower” to “shield chip,” even if he wanted to explain, his voice was lost amidst all the laughter and commotion.
Xue Lan let out a long sigh. Observing the scene of everyone chatting and laughing before him, Xue Lan suddenly felt a desire not to disrupt this warmth.
Everyone was circling around the food, but two people were still by the computers.
It was Pangzi and Lao Qi.
“Why are you still playing?” Xue Lan called out. “Come and have a bite?”
Duan Wenzheng glanced at the two. “Aren’t you two usually the most excited about eating?”
“We met a stupid…” Pangzi wanted to curse, but seeing Xue Lan beside Duan Wenzheng, he slowly sat upright. With a dignified posture, he said, “Never mind, I was teaching a newbie here how to play…”
But before he could finish his sentence, a sniper shot him. Fortunately, the other account’s level was quite low, and it was not a headshot. He cursed and swiftly sought cover.
“Can you do it?” Duan Wenzheng turned around and casually placed a bottle of drink in front of Xue Lan. “Currently, there are numerous streamers using second accounts to challenge Wind God in the survival game. If you can’t beat them, there’s no shame in admitting it.”
“…” Upon hearing this, Xue Lan glanced over at Wen Yan, who had regained his composure and was sitting quietly on one side. He observed Wen Yan raising his head once more, his gaze turning cold as he fixed it on Duan Wenzheng.
Xue Lan quietly gulped down the drink. Sure enough, Duan Wenzheng seemed to constantly seek attention from Wen Yan.
“…” Pangzi barely held it back. He swore that he had never met anyone in his life who could “offer an escape route” like this person. He wanted to grit out that he could handle it when the opponents chose to take a detour and charge forward.
“Smoke bomb. He’s at the rear left, under the attic. Lao Qi, cover me.”
He cursed and heard a smoke bomb thrown by someone. In a flurry, under Lao Qi’s struggling shield, he went around the shelter and managed to save his life.
Pangzi’s face was streaming with sweat after this fleeting moment.
He hastily raised his hand to wipe the sweat from his forehead. While he worried about what to do next, someone behind him, whose presence he hadn’t noticed until now, patted him on the shoulder.
“Let me.”
“Lady, you…” Pangzi lowered his headset and was surprised to find Xue Lan behind him. With the game still on his mind, he promptly stood up and offered his seat to Xue Lan.
