Cheng Huan took his hand and, keeping her tone as mild as possible, she asked him, âWhy did baby let someone else buy you so many toys today?â
XingXing was still baffled. âUncle bought them for me.â
Obviously, he didnât feel that there was anything wrong with accepted what someone else bought him.
She hadnât taught him well enough, thought Cheng Huan to herself and said to him, âBut that is not right.â
âWhy not?â XingXing still didnât understand.
It wasnât a problem to accept all the gifts from his own father; the problem was he didnât know that Jiang MingYuan was his father.
Cheng Huan looked at him for a while and she could do nothing else other than patiently explain the reasoning to him. That it was wrong to just accept gifts from others.
She worried that he would get into the habit of asking others for things and she also worried that he could be lured away when someone offered him anything in the future. Cheng Huan talked to him for a long time, until her mouth was getting dry, before the little kiddo nodded, still not getting the whole concept, and said, âOkay, I get it. Mommy will buy me toys in the future.â
Having said that, he came over and glued onto her and said in a soft voice, âMommy, I donât want to throw those toys away.â
He had picked each and every single one of them himself.
âJust this one time. From now on, you can accept gifts from Uncle Jiang, but not others. Do you understand?â It was very difficult for Cheng Huan to stay those words. She could feel this itch in the back of her jaws.
XingXing nodded and said he understood.
Cheng Huan didnât expect that the kid would learn after one lesson and decided that she would have to mention it a few more times in the future. She went back inside of the kitchen and carried on making dinner. After she had set the table, she suddenly remembered something else. She picked up the phone and sent a message to the other person.
âDonât buy so much stuff next time. Itâd spoil the child.â
Jiang MingYuan had gone back to work after he had brought his son home from the shopping mall. For someone like him, there was no such thing as a weekend. He was just about to go get dinner when he received the text from Cheng Huan. He picked up his phone and took a look when he heard the vibration. He was baffled by the content of the text.
In Jiang MingYuanâs mind, what he bought for XingXing today was not excessive at all. A few cousins of his have kids too and each and every single one of them has their own play room and they were filled to the brim with toys.
Jiang MingYuan didnât want his son to have any less than any other kids. He for sure has to buy the child whatever he liked. Thatâs what he was thinking but he didnât say that out loud. This was the first time Jiang MingYuan was a father and he was sure he wouldnât be perfect in many ways. If the mother of the child said so, she must have her reasons. He should just listen to her for now.
Cheng Huan didnât think about it any more after she had sent the message. She didnât look at her cellphone again until after dinner. She pursed her lips a bit after she saw the two-word response from the other end and it was difficult to tell if she was or was not happy with his response.
That night, the mother and son duo laid in bed and chatted. XingXing grabbed onto her clothes and suddenly asked, âMommy, do you like amusement parks?â
Why did he suddenly bright this up again? Did he want to go again?
Thinking about that, Cheng Huan reminded him in a nice way. âYou have school tomorrow.â
XingXing rolled over and looked at her. His little childish face was full of seriousness. âWhy didnât Mommy like amusement parks?â
Cheng Huan didnât know why he was so certain of that. âI didnât say I donât like them.â
âMommyâs lying,â said XingXing decisively. âYou just donât like them.â
AlrightâŚ
Cheng Huan did not go on explaining it. She patted the little kiddo on his back, hummed nurseries to him, and finally put him to sleep.
After XingXing had fallen asleep, Cheng Huan recalled his words again. The little kiddo probably thought that she didnât enjoy the amusement park because her attitude was a bit too obvious. Came to think about it, she was a bit off the entire day yesterday.
