âMove to a different place? But why?â Cheng Huan was baffled. She felt that there was nothing wrong with their current place.
Jiang MingYuan wanted to say something but, taking a look at the chauffeur at the driver seat, he stopped himself. âNever mind, we will talk about it later.â
Inside the cabin of a car was, indeed, not the best place to have this discussion. Cheng Huan nodded and didnât ask anything else. But she was curious like a cat and wanted to find out his answer to that.
Once they have gotten home, Cheng Huan sent XingXing to play in the study, made two cups of tea, handed one to Jiang MingYuan, and asked, âCan you tell me now?â
âWell,â Jiang MingYuan had already thought it though in the last few days. âXingXing is getting older and it may confuse and negatively impact him with his parents living apart from each other. As such, Iâd like to invite you to move below me.â
âBelow?â
âRight.â What he really wanted was for the two of them to move in with him but he couldnât ask for that just yet. Baby steps. He carried on saying, âThe renter under my unitâs contract was up and had moved away. If you are willing, you can move in tomorrow.
âIt isnât too far away from here so it wonât affect you too much.â
Cheng Huan fell silent.
She understood what Jiang MingYuan was saying. It was difficult for a little kid to understand the situation between them and, as such, theyâd say what was on their mind. When others hear their words, itâd inevitably draw unnecessary attention. Lao Liuâs family that they have met on the plane was a perfect example of that.
Well, understanding it was one thing, her feeling was another. Now that Cheng Huan had sensed that she has impure thought about him, it was no big deal when she wasnât seeing him every day. If she was to move into the same building as him and seeing him day in and day out, she had no idea how things would go. Deep down inside, she was afraid of the unknown.
Cheng Huan hasnât expressed anything and Jiang MingYuan didnât rush her either. He took a sip of the tea and waited for a while longer. What he finally got, instead of Cheng Huanâs response, was a call from Gu MingLi.
Jiang MingYuan frowned when his phone rang. He was sort of a public figure as well and was sensitive to lens. He recalled feeling like his pictures being taken outside of the kindergarten and he couldnât help but wonder when he received the call from Gu MingLi at this curious time.
He didnât feel that he has anything to hide but just felt annoyed. Sighing to himself, he stood up and said, âI have to take this.â
âYeah, okay.â His standing there was making it difficult for Cheng Huan to process anyway. She even felt a slight bit of relief when she heard the phone call and felt a heavy weight being lifted. She quickly waved her hand signifying to him that she didnât mind.
Jiang MingYuan walked over to the patio with his phone. Once the glass door to the patio was closed, all one could see was him but couldnât hear what he was saying.
He picked up the call. âMom.â
âMingyuan, are you still at work?â The voice coming from the other end of the call was tender as usual, as though it was just the call from a caring mother.
âNo, I am out taking care of something.â
âOh yeah? Great then. Itâs been a while since you have been home. Iâll be cooking tonight. Why donât you come home for dinner?â
âI am tied up tonightâŚâ
âWhat is it? Just come after you have it taken care of. Iâll wait for you.â
She was not kidding when she said that. If he didnât go back, she could wait all night long. As much as the two of them were not close with each other, he couldnât have her do that. So he gave in. âAlright, Iâll be there in a little while.â
âOkay, Iâll wait for you then.â Gu MingLi seemed very happy that she had made her son bent to her wish. Her voice was so soft that it sounded like water. That had only irritated the man on the receiving end more.
