ăWhy this place for the meeting, though?ăHikaru muttered.
The first meeting of the students from the seven nations was today, and it would be held at none other than the tavern Three Cheers for Booze. The pub itself was supposed to be closed today, but Hikaru asked the Master and the man lent him the key. He even told Hikaru to open the place if he wanted to.
ăWell, thatâs because this tavern is a gathering spot, and no one would think that students would be here. I thought it was the perfect place.ăLeague, who was already waiting in front of the tavern, answered. ăI was beginning to feel anxious since you werenât around yet. Although thereâs not a lot of people who would come here, thereâs still the off chance that someone sees me.ă
Hikaru glanced around and found no one. His Mana Detection didnât sense any people on the streets either. It was Leagueâs idea to tell everyone to come alone so they wouldnât be wary of each other.
ăI came here early to open the place and you came even earlier. You must be really looking forward to this.ă
ăIâm betting everything on this day.ă
Youâre exaggerating, Hikaru thought. But League was dead serious. He was not the type to joke around in the first place.
They entered the tavern. Hikaru checked the fridge and started boiling water. Lavia helped with preparing tea, while League sat on the counter.
ăHikaru, thank you so much for your help.ă
ăWhereâd that come from?ă
ăI didnât expect you to gather everyone so quickly.ă
ăI told you each one has their own quirk. Canât be all too positive about this.ă
Hikaru had already told League about the students he made contact with.
ăStill, Iâd like to thank you.ă
ăThatâs a flag, you know.ă
ăA flag?ă
ăAh, a flag isâă
The door opened.
ăOh! Looks like I got the right place. Sir League, thank you for inviting me to this meeting. Oh, and Hikaru! Long time no see!ă
It was Silvester, cheerful as always. If this man became the next King of Zubura, the nation would be in good hands. He was the complete opposite of League, who almost never smiled.
ăLord Silverster. I mean, Silvester. Letâs drop the titles.ă
ăAh, right.ă
Silvester flopped down on the seat beside League. The Green Ogre heir contacted him through the principal. Surprisingly, he looked forward to this meeting.
ăI never thought someone like you was a student here, HikaruâŠăSilvester said.
ăWhat do you mean by that? Iâm still young.ă
ăYouâre strong enough to kill a Lesser Wyvern alone. Are you practicing magic in the academy?ă
ăWait a minute. Hikaru killed a Lesser Wyvern alone?ăLeague cut in.
ăI told you about it, didnât I?ăHikaru asked.
ăNo, you didnât. I thought you formed a party with some people.ă
ăI went with Lavia.ă
Lavia nodded.
ăWhoâs this beautiful lady?ăSilvester asked, finally noticing her.
ăAh, she was there when we fought the wyvern.ă
ăI see. So she was supporting with holy magic.ă
Aside from Healing magic, one could also learn Support Magic when strengthening their faith.
ăYeah, something like that.ăHikaru said.
ăNo. Hikaru told me to stay back and went to kill it alone.ă
ăLaviaâŠă
ăItâs the truth.ă
She nonchalantly put tea leaves in the pot.
ăHikaru, whatâs the meaning of this?ă
ăThatâs it. Thereâs nothing more to it. Anyway, enough chit chat. The next guest is here.ă
The door opened and Claude entered. Astonished at the empty and dark place, he looked relieved as he spotted Hikaru at the counter.
ăIâm Claude Zahard Kirihal. Hikaru invited me.ă
ăIâm League âGreen Ogreâ Rumania. Iâm the one who asked Hikaru for help. Thank you for coming here today.ă
ăAnd Iâm Silvester G. Zubura. I believe we met each other at a party once. No need to be formal here.ă
Silvesterâs tone was friendly. But Claude, knowing that he was the next king of Zubura, didnât know if he should be nervous or cool; he sauntered to the counter, but didnât take a seat, still confused.
ăClaude, how about some cold tea?ăHikaru asked.
ăTh-That sounds good. Thanks.ă
ăPlease have a seat.ă
Urged by Hikaru, he finally sat down on a stool. He drank the tea in one gulp and exhaled.
ăHey, League. Hikaruâs being polite.ăSilvester said.
ăI know. A rare sight.ă
ăI can hear you, you know.ăHikaru said.
ăItâs weird. All three of us have pretty much the same standing in Forestia, but youâre polite with Claude, and crude when talking to us.ăSilvester said.
ăYes. Itâs quite strange.ăLeague added.
ăNot you too, League. Besides, youâre the one who told me to be more polite to up the chances of success. Do you remember how we met, anyway?ăHikaru said.
For League, it was at the Adventurers Guild when Roy stirred trouble. For Silvester, while fighting the Lesser Wyvern.
ăYeah, I thought so. Not really how you meet people normally. I didnât think Iâd see you ever again so I didnât care about how to address you.ăHikaru added.
ăAnd now youâre our biggest supporter. You never really know whatâs gonna happen in life.ăLeague said.
ăYup. Itâs a great thing we acquired Hikaru.ă
ăNo, you didnât âacquireâ me! And my help ends today!ăHikaru answered back.
ăYouâre from Ponsonia, right? But you talk to them like youâre close friendsâŠăClaude said.
ăI wouldnât say thatâŠă
ăCould you talk to me like that too? Like, be more rude or somethingâŠă
Hikaru took half a step back.
ăWhat? Are you the type who gets turned on when berated?ăHikaru asked.
ăSilvester, I think we chose the wrong guy from Kirihal.ă
ăI agree. This is a serious matter.ă
ăNo! Iâm not like that, okay?!ă
In the meantime, Lavia poured more cold tea into Claudeâs cup.
ăIt looks like youâve loosen up a little, Claude.ăshe said.
On his feet with mouth open, Claude sat back down.
ăAh, so thatâs whatâs going on. Thank you. I may have been feeling tense. My throatâs dry.ă
As Claude drank his tea, Hikaru sensed several people approaching with his Mana Detection.
ăAll right. It looks like the rest of the gang is here. Letâs move to the table.ăHikaru said.
Luka arrived next. Not long after, Ivan, one of the Jarazack students studying the great sword, showed up. And then Catherine, Laviaâs friend from Euroba. She had bluish hair, braided to both sides. Her purple eyes painted her as someone quiet â or rather, gloomy. Her skin had a tinge of blue to it, a feature of the people from Euroba.
ăWe have six people so far. All thatâs left isâŠăLeague said, glancing at Hikaru.
ăKotobi. Professor Katy said her younger sister will come.ăHikaru said.
ăI looked it up, but apparently she doesnât have a younger sister.ă
ăWhat?ă
ăHow did you tell her about the meeting place?ă
ăI just told Professor Katy directly. I know this sounds strange, but I donât think she would lie to me.ă
ăReally?ă
And thenâŠ
ăSorry, Iâm late! I got lost.ă
A woman appeared. She looked coldhearted, with a tattoo of a flame on her face.
ăIs that you, Professor?ăHikaru asked.
ăNo, itâs her sister, Katyna.ăshe answered.
ăNo, itâs definitely you.ă
ăNope. My name is Katyna.ă
Hikaru checked her Soul Board. Katy.
ăIf you keep on fooling around, I might have to do something about this.ă
Hikaru rolled up his shirt to show the revolver.
ăW-Wait a sec, Hikaru!ă
Katy approached him quickly, putting her arm around his shoulder.
(It sounded interesting so I wanted to be part of it!)
(I told you we needed a student.)
(Oh, come on. Youâre exchanging ideas, right? It wonât hurt to have a professorâs opinion too. Iâm sure I can help. Iâll show you.)
(Donât tell me you wanted to participate because you thought this meeting would be related to the holy manaâŠ)
ăO-O-Of course not! No, noâŠă
ăHikaru-san.ăLeague spoke.ăI think itâs fine. Opinions from non-students will be valuable.ă
ăYou heard the man!ăKaty exclaimed, pointing at League.
The words âbeautiful, but hopelessâ came to Hikaruâs mind.
ăFineâŠăHikaru said, heaving a sigh.
And so the meeting, attended by six students and a professor, began.
