It’s the next morning now.

The light peeked into my room from behind my curtains. I got up and opened the curtains to look outside. There were some clouds, but for the most part it was clear.

Excited- – –
I am excited. This morning is different from all my rest.
It’s not just my dad and I anymore. This morning my mother is here.

I left my room and went straight down the stairs to the kitchen.
I could already hear some noises. It was the sound of vegetables being cut with a kitchen knife.
I could also smell the miso soup cooking on the stove.
Rice will surely be cooked soon as well.
My mother has already begun to prepare breakfast in the kitchen.

“Good morning Mom.”

The cutting stopped once I greeted her. She turned around and said,

“Good morning Yukiya. You are up early.”

She was surprised, but it soon turned into a gentle smile.
Yeah, she is a beautiful mother- – -.
I’m so happy. I get to wake up to find my mother preparing a meal for me. I feel so content.

“Umm. . .Where is the soy sauce? It’s been over a decade and I forgot- – -”
“It’s over here mom.”

I reached into the cupboard and pulled it out. It was hidden behind the seasonings.

“Here you go.”
“Thank you, Yukiya.”

She then began to prepare breakfast again.
Simply exchanging casual conversation like this is heartwarming.

“Let me know if there is anything I can do.”
“Oh. . .Well if you asked, how about you prepare the dishes?”
“Okay.”

I set out to arrange the tableware. Three bowls set out, three bowls just for rice, and three pairs of chopsticks on 3 separate plates.

“You seem used to it. It looks like you’ve been taking care of your father.”
“I-I don’t know if I’d say that.”

I awkwardly scratched the back of my head.
With breakfast complete. She took off her apron and gave a proud look.

“Now then, we are all done. We just have to wait for your father.”
“Yeah.”

Father still hasn’t gotten up yet.

“Geeze, It can’t be helped.”
I took a seat and then went into my usual position. Resting my head on my palm.

“Come over here Yukiya.”

My mother called me over.

“Eh? What is it?”

Not knowing what to expect, I sat up and walked over to her.
Then I was abruptly yet gently grabbed by my longer hair.

“!?”

She started to comb my hair with an ornate Japanese style comb she somehow had on hand.
Apparently my hair was ruffled. I’m not used to it being long. So it feels weird and kind of lumpy.
She carefully fixed my hair.

“You need to be able to do your own hair care.”
“O-Okay. . .”

I guess it’s only natural. I can’t have my appearance look shabby. Because I do work at a restaurant.
My hair grew so it still feels weird, but I think I need to learn how to comb it.
Boy or girl, I can’t excuse that behavior. It would be troublesome for our customers.

“Hey, Mom. How did you come to like dad?”

I left my body to her, and immediately jumped into a normal family conversation.

“Oh, straight to the point, eh.”
“Well. . .You guys mentioned something about it, but didn’t go very deep into it. . .”

She stopped combing my hair.

“I see.”

I turned around to see her looking up towards the ceiling as she reminisced.

“For all my life, I only knew life on the mountain. Of course I knew about humans, and the village. So I always wanted to know about how they lived. And at that time, your father seemed like he was able to fulfill my wish.”

Whoa. How clueless was my father?

“But there was also something that attracted me to him. . .Something indescribable, yet so powerful.”
“Powerful?”

Just based on what I saw yesterday, I understand they both love each other.
It made me happy as well.
However, that brings up one question. . .

Why did they separate even though they were so happy.
Leaving my father and I alone- – –
I want to hear more about it. She mentioned yesterday that the mountain god got angry and she had to return. . .I wanted to ask for more information on that, but we got side tracked last night.

“Good morning, Yukino, Yukiya.”

I was about to ask, when then my father suddenly walked down the stairs.
He was doing his usual thing. Rubbing his stubble and scratching his head.

“Dad, You overslept again.”
“Good morning Syuu-chan, we’re having breakfast.”

My father had a surprised expression. He then looked back and forth between us.

“Fuu. . .You both get up too early.”

He said after giving a huge yawn.
Both of us are early birds it seems. I guess that is something my mother and I have in common.

“Itadakimasu.”

We all said at the same time and broke our chopsticks.

After trying it, it was the tastiest breakfast I ever had.
Although it was nothing unique for a breakfast, it was simply a perfected version of what I usually cook.
It was breakfast for the whole family. Simply enjoying my mother’s homemade food felt surreal.
I wish this could last forever.

About an hour later, the clock hit 10 o’clock, signalling to us that the store was about to open. That dream came to an end.

“Ahh, it’s already time.”

My father murmured as he glanced at the clock.
My mother then stood up.

“Well. It’s about time. I believe there is enough time to go back to the mountain without much trouble.”
“I see. Well, it was nice having you around. . .”

I muttered and then my father gave me an odd look.

“Yukiya, it’s fine.”
“Huh? What do you mean?”

Is this not a goodbye?

“Didn’t I say that your mother came here to train you in the mountains?”
“Huh? W-why do I need to train?. . .”

I simply asked.
My mother then added.

“Yukiya, once your Yuki-Onna blood has awoken, you need to train in the mountains to be able to control those powers. It must be now, before those powers become uncontrollable and explode.”
“Eh? W-Wait, what?”

I remember hearing something similar to that. I didn’t think much of it because it sounded so absurd. And isn’t this asking too much? I literally met my mother for the first time yesterday.

“Now then, let’s head back to the mountains, and begin your training as a Yuki Onna.”

A Yuki Onna. . .? Train? With my mother?”
She walked over to me and put her hand on my shoulder.

“Uwaaaa, it’s so cold!”

Instantly, my body felt frozen.

“Oh, it got cold in here. Did your mother go into Yuki Onna mode?”

My father was simply indifferent.
My mother gripped my hand and dragged me along with her. She was bringing me outside of the house.

“Come on Yukiya.”
“Release me! I hate the cold.”(寒いの嫌いなんだあ)(Not 100%. Well kind of am, but sounds off given context.)
“Endure it, this is for your own good Yukiya.”
“Dad help!”
“You’ll be fine. I’ll see you after you finish your training, so be patient until then. Don’t worry you’ll be fine.”

Thus, my life as a full fledged Yuki Onna began.

Hi, the next chapter will be tomorrow. Or in 2/3 days. The next one is pretty short so I might just attach it to the next next one.
Also I kept the cheat sheet in it, just because it has been awhile. With a more consistent upload coming, let me know if I should even keep it.

Okay with that done, I can get into a more serious talk.

Hey, sorry for the delay. With my dog passing and then me getting pretty sick after it. It was a rough week. Feeling a bit better, although I’m still processing. But it’s simply life, and the hard truth that comes with it. Time will heal though.
Anyways what I do want to say is thank you to all the people who said supportive and nice things. I really truly appreciate it. Did actually get some tears out of me. Lol.
Anyways, until next time. bye.
