For the next three days, Koharu was locked in a dark tatami-room.
It was tightly shut, and no matter how much she cried or shouted.

(“I wasn’t even allowed to take a step out of my house.”)

She told them that Yukinko was little different from any other girl. She was kind, and friendly. You’d understand if you just meet her.

However her pleas were ignored.

Whenever she tried to leave the house. Her mother would hit her.

“You may not know, Koharu. But many young kids have been taken into the ice by those Yuki Onnas. Koharu would have been one of them.”

The quarantine wasn’t limited to Koharu. Her parents told the others, and soon all of the village kids were on lockdown.

Koharu-san was crying in her confined room, until she finally decided.
She went to the bathroom, and forced herself through the small window. Finally being able to escape her prison.

She left for her haven. The place where her friend was always waiting.
The child stood underneath a snow covered tree. Even though it has been 3 days since she last saw each other. She was still waiting for Koharu.
She was simply sitting there looking up at the sky.
Koharu ran with conviction to the waiting child.
She noticed Koharu and smiled.

“Koharu-chan.”

She happily waved towards her.
Then embraced once they got close. Unintentionally crying.

“I’m sorry. I couldn’t come.”
“It’s okay.”

Even though she knew she was a Yukinko, for some reason she didn’t feel cold.

“Let’s go, Koharu-chan.”
“Yeah, wherever you want.”

They left for the “special” place the Yukinko always mentioned.

“Koharu- – -!”

She could hear her father’s voice in the distance. Obviously he found out about her jailbreak.

“Let’s go.”

Looking back she could see other adults join in the search.

“She’ll be taken to the mountain!”

Another adult yelled.
The adults soon caught sight of them as they climbed up the mountain.
They were holding hoes- – – one of them was even holding an old fashioned hunting rifle.
Just from that sight, Koharu knew what would happen to the Yukinko if she was caught.

“Oh no! Run away!”
“We’ll be fine.”

Then a cold air flew from underneath them.

“!?”

The snow blew up from the ground. Making a white curtain completely obscuring them.

“Ahh.”
“It’s no good.”

They heard the voices of the adults behind them.

“Come on, Koharu-chan.”
“Yeah.”

The sudden snowstorm covered their escape.
It was a weird feeling. As the snow was protecting them.

(“It was strange. But I followed her deep into the mountain. Surprisingly I found myself standing near the top of the mountain.”)

The scenery was breathtaking.
The peak showed the vast ocean of the sky. A sight unimaginable from looking only at the foot of the hill.

“Look, isn’t it a nice spot?”
“Wow, beautiful- – -.”

The scene was amazing in the clear sky. The pure air made it possible to see as far as the eye can see. Distant places you could never see from the village. Out towards the curve of the world.

“The village looks so tiny from here.”

There was no wind, but the cold soon crept in. It was very cold.- –

“Are you cold, Koharu-chan?”
“Y-Yeah. . .”
“Let’s go over here.”

She took Koharu’s hand, and led her to a new spot.
The scenery suddenly changed. Now she was in a valley with steam coming all around.
It was a hot spring in a crevice on the mountain.

(“I could take a bath there. It was a once in a lifetime thing. The Yukinko said she wasn’t not good in hot springs, so they could only put their feet in, hohoho.”)
(“It must have been a good memory.”)

But before she could truly warm herself up. A figure appeared behind the steam.

“Who is this child? Did you bring her here? You are going to get scolded again.”

What appeared was a beautiful young girl with long black hair. Her atmosphere was different from that of her friendly Yukinko. But she was definitely another Yukinko.
She learned then that there were in fact many snow girls in the mountain.

“Reiko, I brought this girl. Leave her alone.”
“Geeze, you. . .Really like playing around those humans.”
“They are interesting. Look, Koharu-chan gave me this.”

She then took out a colorful pinwheel that was given to her by Koharu.

“Wow. . .Pretty- – -.”

The other Yukinko was mesmerized, but quickly snapped out of it. Even looking embarrassed.

“Well, whatever. I’m not mad, or anything.”

She quickly turned to hide her embarrassment.
The other Yukinko simply gave a bitter smile.

“She is so stubborn.”

Koharu then played for about it longer. She didn’t want to go home, but she knew their time was coming to an end.

“Koharu-chan. You should return to the village.”

Go home. She was kindly asked, so she didn’t fight it. It was a reality Koharu already knew she was bound to.

(“And then she brought me back to the village.”)

Because it was already spring, she told her that she couldn’t come back down from the mountain for a while.
She didn’t know if they could meet again.
She was told this might be the last time.

“Good bye- – Yuki. . .no-chan.”
“Always stay strong, Koharu-chan.”

For some reason- – She was happy. She wondered if she had already mentally prepared.
They didn’t cry this time.
Simply hugged and then parted from each other.
Waving to each other as they walked away.

With a sudden knock, the parent’s lament came to an end. Koharu’s mother rushed out and hugged her daughter.

(“Once I got home, my mother and father cried.”)

The village was in turmoil after Koharu-san disappeared. The men of the village contemplated. However they felt that they wouldn’t be a match for a Yuki Onna. So they just gave up. Leaving her father frustrated.
The villagers were so afraid.
So they accepted she would never come back.
Her father was too worried to be mad though.

Here is a new chapter. And we are almost down with the fairy tales. And I still haven’t studied up on my japanese. I need to do that. So there might be a delay. Also there is a new chapter of those 4 sisters. So I’ll translate those once I’m done with the fairy chapters. So there is going to be a break after the next chapter. Probably for a week so I can translate the 3 4 sister chapters. And do some brush up.
