Chapter 4: My Mom is a Yuki-Onna!?
Ā
(TN: I should probably state. Yuki-Onna translates as snow woman. I donāt know how to describe this in English, but maybe snow fairy, or snow spirit if you donāt want to google it.)
Ā
I didnāt know what to say.
My mother is a Yuki Onna? What is he talking about?
Ā
āLike in the folktale?ā
Ā
And they got together. . .?Ā
Like a lumberjack who nearly freezes is saved by a snow Yuki Onna. And as she unfreezes him they talk and fall in love. Then they live happily ever after. Something akin to that?
Ā
āYes, she is a Yuki Onna.ā
ā. . . .ā
Ā
My father continued regardless of my absolute bewilderment.
Ā
āYour mother is supposed to visit you soon after you turn 14. And depending on your situation, may take you home.ā
Ā
I examined my fatherās face.
I havenāt finished my work, so he hasnāt drunk yet. And when my dad drinks his face turns red.Ā
But it isnāt. Maybe this is just a birthday prank.
Ā
ā. . .Okay, clever joke, Dad. Haha.ā
Ā
I simply laughed and tried to brush it off.
I was waiting for my fatherās facade to break, and then just laugh it off.
However, he was steadfast.
Ā
āIām sorry, but this is not a joke.ā
Ā
He firmly said.
Ā
āB-but, I was told mom died in a traffic accident. . .ā
āI told you when the time comes Iāll let you know. But I never said she died. Perhaps Yukiya heard some rumors from our neighbors. However she never died. Wouldnāt you think we would have a shrine or a gravestone?ā
Ā
Thatās true. There is no shrine nor grave. But still, I believed I would never meet her.
This is earth shattering. Not only am I going to meet her, but she is a snow woman? That doesnāt make sense.
Ā
āMom is a Yuki Onna?! Who would believe that?ā
Ā
Thatās ridiculous. A Yuki Onna only appears in old fashioned childrenās stories.
Ā
āWell itās natural you wonāt believe me. However I have proof of your lineage. . .ā
Ā
My father crossed his arms.
Ā
āYukiya, you donāt handle the summer well, do you? You are always exhausted and need to spend time in an air conditioned room.ā
āW-well, whatever. I simply like the winter.ā
āYou also hate hot baths. Every time I take a bath after you, the water is always lukewarm. I need to constantly use the re-heating function.ā
āUuuh. . .ā
Ā
I canāt refute that. I hate hot baths.
Ā
But I have an example on why I donāt like them. Two years ago during a school trip in elementary school. I took a bath with my classmates in Kyoto. During that time I lost consciousness. Fortunately my good friend Tomonori helped me and nursed me back to health. But those baths are unreasonably hot, well a lot of baths are. I can only get around with lukewarm water.
Ā
āAnd you canāt handle hot food-ā
āOkay, Okay. I get it. Iām not good with hot things.ā
āThatās a sign of your motherās heritage.ā
ā. . .No, thatās not real proof. Besides, how could a human like dad even get together with a Yuki Onna?ā
āAh, that.ā
Ā
My father slapped his knee and gave a nostalgic look.
Ā
āThe day I met your Mother, is a day I will never forget. It was a year before you were born, 12 years ago. . .ā
Ā
(Iām 14 years old. . .Did he forget?)
He said he wouldnāt forget, but he canāt even get the year right.
Ā
āAt that time, I was climbing the mountain when a terrible blizzard appeared.ā
āA blizzard?ā
āYes. I was in university at the time, and a part of a mountaineering group. Our goal was to climb Hyosei mountain. Which we were able to accomplish, however on my way down from the mountain, a snowstorm appeared and separated me from the party. Trying to survive I built a small snow cave and tried to wait out the storm. It was there, a girl in a white kimono found me, claiming to be a Yuki Onna.ā
Ā
This the first time Iām hearing any of this. I know my father went to a university in Tokyo. However I never heard about a mountaineering group, climbing Hyosei mountain, being caught in a disaster, and being found by a young woman. . .
Ā
āThat young woman was your mother. Your mother helped me at my most perilous time. Not just with her physical help, but emotional as well. She was so kind and sweet.ā
Ā
My fatherās voice suddenly went up, as he got drunk on nostalgia.
Ā
āYour mother was a cute girl. . .Maybe it was because we were both young, our feelings eventually became mutual.ā
Ā
He was looking wistfully at the ceiling as he entered his delusions.
Ā
āAh, we started dating. And on the third date, by a frozen pond, for the first time, we-.ā
āOkay, dad. I get it.ā
Ā
We were having a serious discussion, I canāt have him going into a weird state.
Ā
āAnyways, why are you telling me all this now?ā
āAh, there were a lot of various reasons I wasnāt able to tell you until today.ā
āThe truth about snow women being real? Thatās absurd, why would I believe that!?ā
āItās true, Yukiya. There are snow women, and your mother is one. You can trust your father.ā
āThen why didnāt you tell me until now? And why do I even need to know this?ā
āThat. . .Because there are circumstances you need to be aware of.ā
āWhat are you talking about now?ā
āItās about snow women, and your mother being one.ā
Ā
He took a deep breath, and then stood up.
Ā
āItās because. . .ā
Ā
?
Ā
āYour mother. . .ā
Ā
My mother? Iām losing my patience. Why does he need to bring up my mother? Why does he need to bring her into this dumb joke.
Ā
āAn important thing with her being your mother is. . .ā
ā. . .Okay Iām done. Iām fed up! Itās way too early for an April fool joke!ā
Ā
I stood up and shouted. I was tired of hearing this. I climbed up the stairs and went into my room. Slamming the door behind me.
My room doesnāt have a lock, so itās not really a safe haven. But my father did not follow me.
Ā
āHahh. . .Mom. . .ā
Ā
I muttered as I rested my head on my desk.
What he said is still echoing in my head.
My mother is alive. . .
Iām so confused and angry about this. Why was something so important never told to me, and why on my birthday.
I donāt believe she is a Yuki Onna. That makes no sense, but my father wouldnāt lie about her being alive. . .
When I was troubled or confused. I would always look at our family picture. Thatās why I donāt want to believe or hear about some absurd backstory like that. It was something I went to for comfort, but now. . .I donāt know what to believe. . .
Ā
Chapter 5: A Unexpected Awakening.
Ā
Morning came.
Light gently warming my face met me.
I awoke to find that the snow fall stopped, now the sun was finally shining through my window between the curtains.
Itās been a while since I saw a sunny day.
Ā
āHmm. . .ā
Ā
I raised my head and rubbed my eyes.
I surveyed around me and apparently I fell asleep at my desk.
There is some drool on my face as well. . .
Ā
āHmm.ā
Ā
I got up and stretched.
?
Something felt off.
I could feel my hair touching my shoulders. The last time I got a haircut was a month ago, but I didnāt think it was getting that long.
Also I felt my chest was heavier. I wonder if I got bit? Or am I just getting fat?
Ā
Thatās not it. I couldnāt feel anything. I couldnāt feel anything at my crotch. Something was missing.
Also my butt feels different. Something is weird.
My center of gravity also felt off.Ā
Ā
. . .
Maybe Iām still waking up and my head isnāt clear.
I fell asleep in a strange position, so of course my head will shaken. Also no blankets, so maybe I got a cold.
Ā
Well, getting some food in my stomach might help. Also I need to get ready for our storeās opening.
I still have to take the garbage out, then do the laundry, and make breakfast.Ā
Also now that I think about it. I stormed to my room without making dinner last night.
Father probably filled his belly with a cup of ramen, or canned food.
However that means there might be extra trash. . .
Geeze.
Ā
So I left my room and headed down the stairs.
Before then, I should probably clean my face in the bathroom.
Ā
āHahh. . .ā
Ā
I then remembered yesterday. . .
My mother is a Yuki Onna.Ā
I got told that like I am an idiot and would believe that.
Well, whatever. . .
Ā
I stood at the sink and got my toothbrush and toothpaste.
Need to do the ritual of the morning.
Ā
But then. . .I noticed a girl who resembled me appearing from the mirror.
Ā
ā. . .ā
Ā
It took awhile for me to process what was going on.
Ā
Why is there a girl there? I understand it is a reflection. But who is this? Where did I go?
How could my reflection be gone?
She looked shocked as well.
Maybe itās a magic mirror. . .
No that doesnāt make sense.Ā
I raised my right hand, and she followed. I pointed at her, and she followed. I opened my mouth, and she followed.
Ā
āAaaah!ā
Ā
My brain finally processed it. Thatās me!?!?Ā
It has to be.
I am the girl with the somewhat plump and round face, neat eyes, and nose.
I looked delicate overall.- ā -But I always had a delicate figure. . .
Ā
āUhhh. . !?ā
Ā
My voice sounded strange as well. Somewhat higher than it previously was.
It sounds similar to my own, but slightly different as well.
Ā
āAhā, Ahhāā
Ā
I placed my hand on my throat, and raised my voice.
Ā
āMy Adamās apple. . .Is gone. . .ā
Ā
I looked down and saw my chest had bulged out, clearly different from when I was a man. Although compared to an adult woman, it is quite modest.
Ā
āW-What is this?ā
Ā
I finally noticed it was the discomfort I felt in the morning.
That bulge is.
B-Boobs?
There are two distinct same sized bulges.Ā
I grabbed them in a hurry.
Soft and a weird sensation came to me.
Ā
āAhh. . .!ā
Ā
A sensation I have never felt before was transmitted into my head.
Ā
āT-They are real?ā
Ā
Itās not stuffing. Itās real breast.Ā
Or at least I think. I never had boobs before.
Ā
āWell then. . .ā
Ā
I looked towards my crotch.
I suddenly became a woman. That means there is a 99.9% chance my man-hood is also gone.
I placed my hand at my crotch and looked for the proof. The proof of my man boy-hood. Even those 2 buddies.
However the ones I was born with. My partners who Iāve been together for many years. Theyāre-
Ā
āGone. . .ā
Ā
My curiosity got the better of me as I looked around ground zero.
I couldnāt find anything. It turned into a soft hill.
Ā
ā. . .Ah!?ā
Ā
As I was looking around, I touched something. and some weird electricity shot through me. This is proof that I am a girl now. . .
Ā
āW-What the heck was that?ā
Ā
My voice is so feminine now. Even my scream before was.
Ā
āWhy. . .why did this happen?ā
Ā
I went into deep thought, contemplating my sudden change. When suddenly, the door opened. Making me flinch with confusion.
Ā
āAh, As I thought. So you did become a girl.ā
Ā
I turned back and saw my father standing there looking concerned.
He looked calm though. Like he knew it was me, and that this would happen. . .
Yukiya Kitahara was his fatherās only son. For all his life, he helped at his fatherās restaurant in their ski resort hometown. Until on his 14th birthday, his father told him something that will change everything.Ā
His mother is a Yuki Onna.
Yukiya couldnāt believe that, but things began to spiral out of his control.
His motherās dominant genes began to awaken in him, turning him into a her, and also a Yuki Onna as well.Ā
Going to school? Running the store? How will Yukiya deal with these new problems?
Thus, Yukiyaās TS slapstick Yuki-Onna life began.
(TN: The title also contains (ēęæåØ). Which translates into āpretty daughter that attracts boys to their parentās shop.ā I canāt find or think of an EnglishĀ word for this. I donāt think there is one. So I left it out.)Ā

Here is the new novel. Iāve been really enjoying the writing style. Iāve kept the chapters a secret mainly for my followers. From now on, Iāll put the title in the chapters title. Also these releases are probably not going to be chapter bunches. I merely placed these in chapter bunches so the premise and introductions can be quickly conveyed.
Next chapter will be released probably in 3 days or 4. Going back to that schedule as these chapters feel much more fitting for those.
I havenāt read the novel so I canāt say if any one thing is in it. However
IF YOU READ AHEAD, DO NOT SPOIL THE STORY FOR THE REST OF US.
Itās is really disheartening to hear spoilers, as it easily crushes my motivation. I enjoy translating, because I enjoy reading the story with everybody else. Iāve only read to chapter 11 so far. And itās interesting enough for me to want to pick it up.
Ā
Anyways, see you guys in 3-4 days.

Also for any of my nice followers wondering, my dog is doing worse. But she is still here and aware. I know my time is limited with her, so I am making the most of it. This new novel has helped me pass the time while she lays beside me. So that is why Iāve been able to work on it. Also itās just so fun to translate this novel. So much flavor text~~
