~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I’m not a child anymore. Having said that, I’m not an adult either.
I can’t expect my mother to take such a selfish request.
It’s unreasonable to ask my mother for this if it risks losing their child after waiting for more than a decade to see them.
So there is only one thing I can think of.
“Mother, What about me!? Do I need to obey the rules of the mountain?”
She didn’t tell me I couldn’t. So maybe my situation is different.
“Yukiya-chan, Yukiya-chan. Your Yuki Onna blood has just awoken, but you still grew up a human. You haven’t lived up on the mountain, so you have yet to receive the Gods’ blessing.”
“I-I see.”
“So therefore, you aren’t bound by the rules. But after taking the oath, the mountain and you will be inseparable.”
This is confusing.
“Ooii, Yukino, Yukiya.”
The relaxed voice of my father interrupted our tense conversation. He seemed to have finished his call and came back upstairs.
“Oh, you guys are still here? Well anyways, Hatano-san called me.”
“Hatano-san. . .?”
For context, Hatano-san runs the fire brigade in our town. He also owns a real estate building and runs a general store. So is a very busy guy.
“Excuse me, but I was called in to help.”
In the case of a mountain climbing disaster or natural disaster, Hyosei Village has a formula to create an emergency rescue squad. It is a task force made up from people in the fire department and local volunteers that are well versed in mountaineering.
The program was actually created by Natsumi-chan’s father a while back.
It was established to robust our safety measures, in an effort to draw visitors from all over Japan. My father joined the volunteer group because he knew how to climb, even though the volunteers don’t make any money.
However they aren’t often called upon, so the situation must be bad.
“They aren’t prepared. So the search will probably start again in the morning. So I was asked to help prepare for then.”
“I understand. We’ll just have to wait and see, Syuu-chan.”
That is a very important role. There is a risk that another disaster could happen later in their search.
My father seemed to have taken the request to prevent that.
I always wondered why he would put himself in risk while still managing a store, but when I asked about it, my father told me “Because I’m still a newcomer.”
Although it has been 14 years since he moved to this village, he is still considered a newcomer to the villagers who have lived here for generations.
So he takes dangerous community jobs to try and win them over.
“Be careful, Dad.”
“Oh, I know Yukiya. There are people in need, so it’s natural to help.”
He muttered as I watched him rush to our storage place.
From the corridor, I could hear echoes of him rummaging around for mountaineering equipment.
My mother giggled while watching him.
She then turned to me.
“Hmm. . .Yukiya grew up as a child of this village, so it’s natural that you and him want to help.”
She then gave a heavy sigh.
“This is definitely the work of a Yuki Onna, but an inexperienced one. Perhaps she is even the same age as Yukiya. The method is blatant and immature, plus this is the time of year for snow girls to train themselves to become full fledged Yuki Onnas.”
My mother stared at me motionlessly.
“However. . .Snow girls who were raised on the mountain are quite different from you. But you still want to use this as a learning experience?”
“Yeah! That’s right! I want to help those people. Help the people who came to the store.”
My mother closed her eyes and gave a heavy sigh.
“Be careful, Yukiya-chan.”
“Yeah.”
“Do you remember how to walk and use your powers?”
“Yes, because Mom thoroughly taught me.”
It was beaten into me in a brutal spartan education.
The hell made me want to learn, just so I could escape.
“I’ll be fine.”
I proudly made a gut’s pose to try and show some confidence.
Although I didn’t have many muscles to show off.
My mother simply smiled. It seems like she won’t oppose it.
“Take care, Yukiya.”
“Yeah.”
I closed my eyes and concentrated.
It’s time to show off what I learned.
A sensation came from my heart.
It’s usually held down, but thanks to my efforts, it began to spring forth.
I must release it.
“!!!”
Cold air swirled around my body.
The next minute, I became a snow girl, wearing my single white kimono.
My mom nodded slowly in approval. Everything seems prepared.
This is the power I’ve been able to tap into thanks to these last few weeks.
I didn’t ask for this, but I’m grateful I have these powers for this circumstance.
“Okay, I’m off.”
I said in a determined tone.
“I’ll take care of this.”
I said as I left my house.
Running barefoot, I left into the woods.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

A new chapter for you, and we are finally starting to see some action. Well the promise of action. I do wonder who this mysterious Yuki Onna is. Perhaps a new friend? Or a new rival? Regardless, you’ll just have to look forward to the next chapter.
Which will be in 3-4 days.

Sorry about this being a later one, I wish I could say I was busy and that the quad sister took a lot of my time, but not really. With the world being in a weird space, I find myself with a lot of free time. And instead of using that to translate, I get distracted with video games. So hopefully I can be less distracted, but no guarantee. There are just too many new games/old games I’ve been finding, and distractions are pretty nice to have during these ominous times. But I’ll try to fix my schedule so I can produce some distractions for you guys as well.
But enough about that, I’m sure you can’t escape hearing about it already. So until next time, I’ll try not to have you guys wait too long.
