Chapter 28 - The Monster Duke Mistook Me for His Wife
âYour Grace, I canât help it.â
Before coming here, Kanae held on to Ria and revealed all of her identity.
She wanted to hide it if possible, but she couldnât help it. That was the only way to persuade Ria who mistook her as an enemy of His Grace.
âKanae Hill, greeting Your Grace.â
Kanae, who had taken off her hood, looked up and took a hint of Dillian.
âYour Grace, Iâve hidden the fact that we met until the end.â
âI am glad you are safe.â
Leaving behind the beautiful reunion, Ria crept up to Harris and whispered.
âSir Harris, is that person really his colleague?â
âThatâs right. She is Dillianâs immediate escort. As Dillian was alone, I thought they were all dead, but they must have been safe.â
At Harrisâs relief words, Ria shook off the last boundaries.
âYour Grace. As you may have heard from the Miss, your location has been discovered. Itâs dangerous here. You have to go back now.â
âI should say sorry, but my house is here. The only place I can go back to is here, the place where Miss Ria is.â
Kanae stammered at the words that felt so distant.
âFor the sake of Miss Ria you sayâŚ, youâre staying here for the Miss?â
Panicked look on the face that revealed after the hood was taken off couldnât be hidden.
âBe calm. His Grace must have a reason for staying with the Miss.â
As she tried to make up her mind that it might be Dillianâs big picture, suddenly she heard something that immediately shattered her hypothesis.
âMiss Kanae, Sir Dillian has a memory problem at the time, so he canât remember anything.â
Kanaeâs head moved busily, as she looked alternately at Dillian and Ria.
âI, I donât quite understand, so do you mean that His Grace has amnesia?â
âYes, maybe because of the injury, he didnât remember anything when he woke up.â
Kanaeâs eyes turned to Harris. âPlease tell me itâs a lie.â her eyes shone desperately, but Harris had only one thing to say.
Kanae, who was kneeling with one knee up, collapsed to the side.
âYo, Your Grace⌠have you really lost your memory?â
âBut at that timeâŚâ
When we met a few days ago, you didnât show any signs ofâŚ
Wait, come to think of it, something was wrong.
An unfamiliar gaze as if looking at a stranger, excessive vigilance, sharp but unusually loose attitude.
What if he didnât pretend he didnât know us, but he really didnât?
Only then did the pieces fit together like puzzles.
Kanaeâs face turned white.
Kanae, who was shaking her head and denying reality, suddenly screamed and rushed out of her place.
Ria pressed down on her blocked ears then asked Harris.
âHe is one of the elite unit under Dillian.â
âLooked like she didnât come alone.â
âBecause Kanae is a mage, not a knight, she always moves with her partner. That partner is Eldman.â
Just in time, four men poured into the room.
âYo, Your Grace! Is it true that you lost your memory?â
âYour Grace! I, I am Ludo! Do you really donât know who I am!â
âWhat do you mean Your Grace has lost his memory, Iâm sure it was Lexterâs plot!â
The market will be quieter than this.
The room roared as the four men shouted as if they were fighting for seats.
âDonât tell me they are allâŚ?â
âYes, the elite Knights under Dillian. If Dillian tells them to die, they will cut their neck here, kind of guys.â
As soon as Harris finished speaking, they were kneeling with their head on the floor.
âYour Grace, I am not good enough. I will pay you back with my life.â
âIt must have been painful enough to have a memory problem, but I didnât know thatâŚ! I will take the responsibility!â
âYou didnât want your surroundings to get dirty by the blood, right? Iâm going to go out and die!â
âThey are not knights but fanatics, is itâŚ?â
Look at those crazy eyes.
If Dillian told them to die, most likely they are going to die.
The Dillianâs fanatics snapped their mouths shut. And Harris sighed.
âEveryone, calm down for now. Crying in front of a guy who doesnât even remember anything isnât going to solve it.â
âHarris-nim! May I ask you how much His Grace remembers anything?â
Cried The knight, with his face in his blazing eyes.
âObviously heâs a hot-blood* type.â
*A metaphorical word for someone with strong passion.
For some reason, his face tells that he is a young master who respected Dillian and became a knight.
âRight. There should be a guy like this in the novel.â
Harris swept his eyes with a complicated face.
âHe knows nothing but his name.â
âI know my wifeâs name too.â
âPlease. Shut up your mouth please.â
Dillian was brazen at me and Harrisâs rebuke.
âWe have been together for a long time, but it looks like my wife is still shy.â
Donât say that in front of your fanatics! Youâre doing this on purpose, right? So I canât take it out!
My cheek is stinging. Five pairs of eyes were staring at me with fearsome eyes.
âYo, Your Grace, are you married?â
What the, married? Are you crazy? I shook my head firmly with a quick straight face.
âIâm sorry, but we are not in that kind of relationship.â
âBut His Grace saysâŚâ
âSir Dillian is mistaken because he has lost his memory. I am just, treating and taking care of him.â
My strong denial did not ease the fuss.
âMar, married you say. So that day, you hid everything from us. To protect this personâŚ!â
Wait, that day? Thaat day?
I raised my eyebrows when I heard a question from a man named Eldman.
Eldman slid down his eyes from the ferocious look.
âWhat does it mean? Sir Dillian.â
He tried hard to make up a sweet voice, but it was a failure. His eyes did not smile at all.
Dillian avoided my gaze secretly.
âNobody told him about his identity, it was weird he suddenly found out about it, so he already met with his men.â
Itâs that day, right? The day I kicked out the men in search of Dillian.
It was clear that they had found Dillian.
Not knowing Dillian had lost his memory, they must have been blasting information. Itâs obvious after that.
The doubtful Dillian wouldnât even have trusted his men, and he just thought that it was safer around me.
âI donât know this guys.â
And yet Dillian pretended not to know. To the best of his ability.
âWhat do you mean you donât know. With every word Sir Dillian says, they are the one who was going to hit their head though.â
âTo be exact, the one I know is this one, I donât know the rest.â
Dillian pointed to Eldman and Kanae.
Surprised by being pointed out, the two swallowed their saliva and asked carefully.
âMy head, shall I hit it?â
âWhat do you mean hitting!
These guys really say something troubling. I put a sigh and facepalm.
âMiss Ria, are you angry?â
âIâm not angry, you should have told me if something like that happened.â
I was so surprised because I thought his memory came back.
âI really thought I was going to die.â
The memory of that time chills sent down my spine. Shaking, Dillian gently swept my shoulder.
As if to soothe a frightened child.
âIâm sorry. There shouldnât be secrets between couples, but I was careless. I will never make a secret from now on.â
⌠Thatâs not what I mean. But tired of arguing with Dillian, I nodded weakly.
Watching the situation, they showed various reactions.
There were people who opened their mouths as if their jaws would fall out, staggered and fell down, or slapped themselves in the face.
Yeah, I know. Shocking, huh? Whatâs wrong with him? So am I.
I finally cleared up the Knightsâ misunderstanding and belatedly shared our name.
Knight leader Jerry, a silent but a bit crazy Ben, a hot-blooded knight Ludo, and lastly the one I acquainted with, Eldman and Kanae.
The Knights of Shaten, composed of five, were loyal to Dillian, not Sinaize.
It was an embarrassing number to call it the Knights, but their skills were the best.
Kanae, the only mage in the elite unit, closed her eyes.
âThen, from now on, I will find out where the Mr. Cute owl is.â
I looked at a little valley between Kanaeâs eyebrows then lowered my gaze to the map on the floor.
The stone placed at the location of our inn began to move little by little, shedding a subtle light.
âItâs fascinating.â
I was mesmerized by the positioning magic I have never seen before.
Kanae worked hard to explain this magic principle. Actually, I did not understand a thing.
Kanae opened her eyes wide. At the same time, the magic stone stopped at a certain position and slowly lost its light.
To the familiar position, I blinked then Dillian asked.
âDo you know this place?â
I know it right away. Stretching my bent knees, raising my body, I opened the window.
Pointing far away, in sight, with hand.
An ancient castle in the black forest.
