Volume 3 Chapter 236: Snow Countermeasures and a New Field for Slime Research (1/2)

As I continued chatting with the gods, the topic of the conversation moved from the fields to the climate.
This yearâs winter seems to be harsher and longer than usual, so I asked them about it.
âAbnormal weather?â [Fernoberia]
âItâs just the usual, really. Ryouma-kun, do you remember why you came to this world?â [Kufo]
âTo bring Earthâs mana here, right?â [Ryouma]
âYes. In order to supplement the lack of mana in this world, we brought you into this world along with a great amount of mana, and now the whole world is active. To make an analogy, it would be akin to a human suffering from malnutrition being able to eat normally and start recovering.â [Kufo]
âThere are various factors to the environment and climate of the world, and theyâre constantly changing while maintaining equilibrium. Just think of it as though the range of fluctuation for these factors has gotten slightly bigger.â [Fernoberia]
Thanks to Kufo and Fernoberia-samaâs explanations, I was able to understand.
So it turns out this yearâs harsher winter is actually a good thing for the world.
The only problem is the so-called âslightâ climate change.
As that âslightâ is only slight from a godâs perspective.
We humans will have to prepare.
âItâs a little harsh for humans, I suppose.â [Kirillel]
âI donât think thereâll be any problems as long as they prepare for winter, though.â [Rurutia]
Kirillel and Rurutia were sitting nearby, and when I heard their conversation, I thought to myself, âjust as I thoughtâ.
âIâve always wanted to say this, but the information I got before coming to this world was a little off.â [Ryouma]
The three gods that brought me to this world wore an apologetic look.
âAh, but Iâm not mad or anything, though. After all, that gap in information is what led to me becoming involved with the dukeâs family.â [Ryouma]
Besides, even among humans, there are differences in cultures between nations. And even those of the nation, when separated by as little as 10 years, can have a so-called generational gap. Itâs only natural that thereâd be a gap in the way humans and gods see things.
âItâs good that you understand that.â [Gayn]
âLiving for so long changes oneâs perception of time too.â [Rurutia]
âAt this point, I donât even feel the difference between decades and centuries.â [Kufo]
I donât think Iâll ever be able to relate, but anyhow, it seems this yearâs winter really will be stronger than usual. Weâll have to prepare. This will also open up a new job I have in mind.
As I thought that to myself, Sereriputa grinned broadly.
âAre you going to start something new again?â [Sereriputa]
âFor the meantime, Iâm thinking of coming up with a way to prevent snow from accumulating.ăSnowfall once isnât a problem, but if it continues, the snow will eventually pile up and make it harder for people to move around. This will naturally also affect the flow of goods. I can make do with my magic and slimes if itâs just the snow around my store and my neighbors, but that wonât be enough if I want to help the whole town. Moreover, if the snow is going to be harsh every year from here on out, then it would b best to come up with a countermeasure as early as now.â [Ryouma]
âExactly what do you have in mind?â [Sereriputa]
âIâm thinking of throwing people at the problem. There are still a lot of laborers, after all. To make things more efficient, Iâm also thinking of trying out some snow shovels and ice breakers from Earth. There are some things I can use from my slime research too, butâŚâ [Ryouma]
âOh? Thatâs not like you. Normally, youâd be a lot more talkative when it comes to your slimes.â [Willieris]
I knew the humans saw me that way, but I didnât know the gods did too.
âThere are some research results that could prove useful in removing snow, but caution needs to be exercised when applying them.â [Ryouma]
âCaution?ăDid you make a bomb or something?â [Kufo]
Kufo said that in jest, but heâs actually close.
âSeriously? You really made one?â [Kufo]
âWell, I didnât make a bomb. But I accidentally made something similar to gunpowder.â [Ryouma]
âI never heard anything about that.â [Kufo]
âWell, I havenât talked about it yet.â [Ryouma]
I have too many things I want to talk about, so Iâd ended up postponing it.
âIf you want to hear about it, Iâll explain.â [Ryouma]
âRather than wanting to hear about itâŚâ [Kufo]
âRyouma, your eyes are already sparkling.â [Tekun]
Apparently, the look on my face was so enthusiastic that Tekun just had to point it out.
âOkay, okay, Iâll restrain myself a little.â [Ryouma]
Anyway, as the story goes, the start of this whole thing was when I made the âacid detergentâ when I took on that job to clean the hot spring back at Fatma Territory.
The acid detergent is created by mixing the acid of the acid slime and the sticky liquid of the sticky slime.
Thatâs all it was, really, but coming up with the acid detergent made me realize that until then I havenât really combined the liquids of different types of slimes. Itâs always only been liquids from the same type of slime.
Thereâs just too many slime evolutions, and thereâs just so many ways you could make use of a single slime variant, so the thought of mixing liquids from different slimes just completely slipped my mind.
Looking back on it, I canât help but wonder why I couldnât try out something so simple. I really shouldâve tried mixing liquids from different slimes sooner, but I digress.
Anyway, as I was saying, the acid detergent I made was created by mixing the acid and the sticky liquid, and upon creating the solution, a trace of fine powder settled at the bottom of the solutionâs container.
âThis is that fine powder.â [Ryouma]
âInteresting.â [Tekun]
âMu.â [Kufo]
