Chapter 55 The Hard to Find Law Firm

Hell’s Kitchen in the daytime was similar to a large city such as New York City.

Although most of the civilians were working in other streets causing Hell’s Kitchen to fall silent and lack prosperity, the road was wide and spacious and neat as a pin.

Besides, the traffic was coming and going on several main streets and it brought some popularity to Hell’s Kitchen.

Leo was uncertain where Matt’s law firm was located, so he could only wander around looking for it. Before Leo left, he had asked Ol’ Tom but Ol’ Tom had no clues about law firms that were opened by a blind man in Hell’s Kitchen. His answer made Leo puzzled.

According to his previous life, Matt was keen on defending poor and innocent people in Hell’s Kitchen as it was difficult for them to hire an attorney willing to defend them.

Matt’s maverick action led his law firm to be famous in Hell’s Kitchen and even reached the ears of the bigwig, Wilson Fisk.

Wilson Fisk was also the infamous crime lord, Kingpin. Leo these few days had always seen his name and photos appear in the newspaper.

Leo was surprised by the fact that Kingpin was neither the white fat man from Daredevil’s TV series nor Spider-man’s. It was similar to the black bulky man from Daredevil’s movie.

However, his photo printed on black-white newspaper caused his face to be slightly unrecognizable except for his rows of eye-catching white teeth.

After a detailed observation, Leo was able to differentiate that the Kingpin in the photo was much younger than the Kingpin from Daredevil’s movie.

Leo recalled Bucky’s words out of the blue that stated Daredevil sounded at most a kid that was twenty years old. Could it be Daredevil was still studying at Columbia University and had yet to graduate? Then, the law firm had not been opened?!

Leo was slightly disappointed when he had these thoughts. He originally wished to hire Matt to be his company’s legal advisor. Despite the fact that Matt was blind and caused some inconvenience, Leo admired his kindness, integrity, and sincerity.

Leo’s plan to start a company was urgent and time was precious. Leo had strolled through several streets in Hell’s Kitchen in an hour but was still unable to find a law firm opened by a blind man.

Thus, Leo concluded that Matt’s law firm had yet to be open. He was going to stop searching and looked for a random agency to apply for the firm first. Just as he turned around to return, he was startled by a yell behind him.

“Hey, buddy! Set the signboard straight! I paid you for this and you placed it so slanted. How am I going to do business?”

Leo turned around and saw a chubby youth ordering two workers to hang a wooden signboard on top of the door of a small store.

The workers did as the youth ordered and constantly adjusted the signboard’s position. On the signboard were several words that made “Nelson-Murdock Law Firm”.

Leo’s eyes lit up as the name on the signboard was the name of Matt and his best friend’s law firm!

Leo hurriedly approached the chubby youth and greeted him. After the youth placed his attention on Leo, Leo reached out his right hand and formally introduced himself.

“Hello, I’m Leo Erwin. May I ask what your name is, sir?”

The chubby youth was confused but he shook Leo’s hand out of politeness and replied, “Hi, I’m Franklin Nelson. Mr. Erwin, how can I help you?”

Franklin Nelson? Was he not Matt Murdock’s best friend, Foggy’s full name?! Leo was correct, this was the place where Daredevil opened his law firm.

Leo smiled and pointed at the signboard that was still being positioned and said, “I saw your signboard, you must be a newly opened law firm right? I happen to have a related business that I wish to consult, I wonder if it’s convenient now.”

“Of course it’s convenient! Except for this signboard, our law firm has finished renovating. We are open for business, please enter sir.” Foggy was overjoyed. The firm had just opened and they already had a business. Foggy hastily invited Leo to enter.

Leo followed Foggy entering the firm and noticed it was small, miserably small. Leo saw everything clearly within the room with a single glance.

Besides some ordinary furniture and law-related books, there was a blind youth with sunglasses sitting beside a typewriter. He was typing pieces of paper in braille.

Foggy entered and saw Matt, he exclaimed, “Matt, why are you wearing sunglasses indoors? Didn’t you hate it?”

Foggy did not ask further as Matt remained silent. He added, “Matt, This is Mr. Leo Erwin. Mr. Erwin, this is my partner Matt Murdock. Don’t look down on him just because he is blind, he ranked first in every subject in university, and this spring he will graduate from Columbia University’s law course as a Distinguished Graduate. If you have any questions regarding the law, you can consult him. He definitely will solve your problem perfectly.”

Foggy enthusiastically introduced Leo and Matt to each other before continuing, “Mr. Erwin, you can have a chat with Matt. I still need to supervise those placing the signboard. You can call me anytime if you have other matters.”

Foggy happily left after saying that and even his voice in ordering the workers heightened by a notch.

After Foggy left, Matt fumbled around and stood up before pointing at his right side saying, “Mr. Erwin, there’s a sofa here, please have a seat.”

Leo sat on the sofa and carefully observed Matt’s young appearance. Matt was wearing huge sunglasses, so Leo could not see too much expression on Matt’s face.

However, Leo was absolutely certain Matt recognized his voice and knew it was him who half a month ago in Hell’s Kitchen threw Matt down.

But Matt’s expression was calm because he never could have guessed Leo knew him.

“Mr. Murdock, it’s a pleasure to meet you.” Leo said in politeness before getting straight to the main topic.

“I’m preparing to start a tech company but I’m lacking a legal advisor. Furthermore, I’m not familiar with the procedures for starting a company. I wished to hire your law firm to help me with the registration. I wonder if it’s possible?”
