Chapter 197 The Water-fetching Old Man in Peggy’s Residence

Leo inquired Fury some more questions about Peggy and ended up having a conversation with Fury that ended unhappily but he still managed to achieve his initial objective. Natasha would still be working for Erwin Tech Company.

And this time, Leo absolutely wouldn’t let her go. From now on, she will be a part of Erwin Tech Company. If she died… How would it be possible that she died?!

After leaving the detention room where Fury was, he went to the detention room where Pierce was and took a peek as usual. Then, he left through the air vent with Bucky and Natasha.

Finding a flat spot, he placed the Capsule House down and asked, “Bucky, do you still want to visit Peggy Carter and drop by her house?”

Frankly speaking, Leo felt Bucky’s current situation wasn’t suitable to see things that would invoke his sadness.

But Bucky steeled himself and solemnly replied, “Of course.”

Bucky’s act of drowning sorrows with alcohol would only result in more sorrow. But it wasn’t Leo who was sorrowful. Since Bucky wanted to go, then so be it.

Identifying the direction, Leo picked up the Capsule House and flew to Peggy Carter’s office. During the two weeks incident in S.H.I.E.L.D., Peggy was in S.H.I.E.L.D. for most of the time. After all, who let her be the ex-director and poured too much emotion into S.H.I.E.L.D.

As he was slowly flying to Peggy’s office, Natasha suddenly quipped, “Teacher, have you had some intimate relationship with Director Carter in the past? Otherwise, why would you come all the way to visit her and even wanted to drop by her house?”

Natasha sat in the house, covering her mouth while smiling.

“Shut up. Peggy liked Steve back then, how could I possibly interrupt a brother’s love?!” Bucky retorted.

With her mouth covered, Natasha stated, “Lying mouth of men, who knows they are thinking.”

“The reason I want to see her and even drop by her house is mainly to see if I can find any mementos of Steve.” Bucky was forced to state the truth to dispel Natasha’s fantasies.

Crossing her, Natasha stated, “Director Carter was married a long time ago. I’ve heard she even had grandchildren. If Director Carter still kept Captain America’s memento, won’t her husband be jealous of it?”

“She was married?” Evidently, Bucky was unaware of this matter and was quite shocked.

Natasha lifted her brows, “Why? You don’t allow Director Carter to find a new love? Why are men so selfish?!”

Rebuked by Natasha, Bucky wasn’t mad at all. Instead, he smiled and God knew what he was thinking about.

“Hey, hey, Natasha. If you want to ease the tension, then tell Bucky some jokes. Why are you insulting him instead…” Leo was speechless as he was getting insulted for doing nothing.

But after this episode, Bucky’s mood turned lighter and much less sad.

By now, Leo had flown into Peggy’s office while carrying Bucky and Natasha.

Peggy was sitting on her chair while working on some documents. While Pierce was imprisoned, she was the one who had to manage every huge and small affair in S.H.I.E.L.D., it was safe to say she was working hard.

He hugged the Capsule House with its window facing outward and steadily hovered in the air, letting Bucky have a clear view.

Bucky’s gaze pierced through the window and landed on Peggy. But because of his current size gap with Peggy, his brain needed an extra step of translation when he was looking. It was stressful and thus the image perceived was extra clear. His line of sight went all the way down Peggy’s face and finally stopped on her left hand.

On Peggy’s left ring finger was a diamond-encrusted ring. In the United States, this symbolized wedded. It seemed Natasha wasn’t lying to him. However, he wasn’t annoyed at all, and instead, he was happy for Peggy.

Peggy always wore the wedding ring, which proved she truly loved her husband. Since she found love once more and welcomed a happy life, Bucky would bless her as an old friend and wouldn’t feel she had wronged Steve.

Her office was established temporarily and there weren’t any of her personal belongings. So, after Leo took Bucky looking around, he proposed to visit Peggy’s residence.

While flying out, Leo asked, “Bucky, how do you feel after seeing Peggy?”

“Things are different and time waits for no one.” Bucky lamented and continued, “Also Peggy is fatter than before. Does this mean that people will get fat when they turn old? Then, I’ve to thank Zola for keeping me frozen for all these years.”

“Bulls*it, that’s because you’re small right now, so her size looks huge.” Natasha said, “From what I know, Director Carter is much thinner compared to when she was young.”

Bucky wisely chose not to bicker with Natasha and Leo also didn’t open his mouth. Matters of body size have always been taboo for women, especially when discussing them with men.

After that, Leo took the Capsule House and flew to a two-story mansion in the Oakley Residential, northwest of Washington. According to the information he gathered from Fury, this was Peggy’s permanent residence after resigning from S.H.I.E.L.D.

This place was a wealthy area with a pleasant natural environment and complete infrastructure, a great place to enjoy one’s later years.

Peggy’s residence’s entrance was tightly locked and it looked like no one was around. Based on what Fury said, Peggy had two children and both of them had their families. Her daughter and her son-in-law lived in New York City and they had a son. While her son served in the military and had a son and a daughter.

However, the odd thing was, when Leo asked about Peggy’s husband, Fury shook his head and stated he had no idea as well.

Currently, there wasn’t anyone in Peggy’s house, and Leo and the others were visiting with permission. So it was easier to silently come and go.

Holding the Capsule House, he entered the residence through the gap under the door.

“Leo, hurry up and show me around.” Bucky urged.

Leo wasn’t in a hurry and expressed three rules to Bucky instead, “Peggy was a keen and observant agent, so let’s get this straight first. You can look only, no touching, not even opening the drawers.”

“I know, you told me countless times.” Bucky retorted. “Besides, you don’t even let me enter the house, how can I open the drawers…”

“Hehe.” Leo embarrassingly chuckled before flying up with Bucky and Natasha, looking around the living room.

The living room was spacious, with three long couches and a long coffee table. Leaning against the wall was a row of small tables with various items placed on them. And right at the end of the table was a photo framed with a golden frame.

“Hey, Bucky! I found something you may be interested in.” Leo said while flying to the photo and landing on the table with the Capsule House’s window facing toward the photo.

Bucky pressed against the window, staring at the photo, and slowly stated, “It’s Steve before he was injected with the serum.”

His eyes carried memories as if reminiscing things that occurred decades back then.

“That doesn’t make sense!” Natasha was perplexed and blurted out. “Director Carter is openly placing her ex-boyfriend’s photo and her husband doesn’t mind at all?”

“Maybe her husband is an avid fan of Captain too!” Bucky chuckled.

All of the sudden, Leo heard a light footstep coming from upstairs. And Capsule House was intended for sleeping, so its noise reduction was better than the armor. Hence, Natasha and Bucky didn’t hear anything and were still debating.

Ignoring Bucky and Natasha, he flew to the staircase and quietly made his way up. When he reached the second floor, he saw a forty to fifty years old man in a tank top holding a jug and was going to fetch some water in the kitchen on the second floor.

But that eyes, that brows, that mouth, and especially that perky a*s. Why were they so familiar…

‘Sh*t!’

Leo was so astonished that he hastily made his way downstairs to the tables and further shrunk the Capsule House. Clenching the capsule in his hand, he swiftly escaped in a flash and blasted into the sky, like a mouse that met a cat.

Meanwhile, the old man in Peggy’s residence was unhurriedly fetching the water while contemplating the complete uprooting of H.Y.D.R.A. spies in the S.H.I.E.L.D. in his mind. This development was utterly different from what occurred in his memory.

He couldn’t resist suspecting the butterfly effect ultimately couldn’t be stopped despite his utmost cautiousness.

Upon learning that the S.H.I.E.L.D. was judging Pierce and Fury right now, the water-fetching old man pondered whether or not he should tell his lover about Pierce being the H.Y.D.R.A. and Fury becoming the Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. in the future.
