As soon as I had realized that, all color drained from my face.
Contrary to the burning rage within my heart, my mind was markedly clear.
There was no lingering scent of blood or traces of a fight in the room.
One side of the bed was still mussed up and warm to the touch.
However, there were ominous clues that pointed to demon involvement in Ilya’s disappearance.
Even if they had tried their best to erase the evidence of magic, there were vestiges of it… teleportation magic.
My vision turned dark at the implications. My heart thrashed against my chest.
“Come,” I said, summoning the spirits to search for Ilya.
As dozens of them investigated Ilya’s whereabouts, I continued to examine the traces of teleportation magic in the room.
They did not seem to have traveled far. Even so, the exact location was unclear.
Was this to prevent me from pursuing immediately? To decrease my magic power reserves before I located them? …Or perhaps it’s to serve both purposes? This was the most likely possibility.
After finding the remains of a magic concealment orb and a soundproofing orb, I gritted my teeth at my carelessness. This demon seemed to have planned meticulously to slay me.
I had grown flustered by Ilya’s words and left him without protection.
And the demon had struck within that interval… In all likelihood, it had been awaiting that chance to make its move.
I threw my cloak over my shoulders, unsheathed the Holy Sword, and waited for the spirits with my eyes closed.
A dark emotion swirled in my chest.
・It didn’t protect Allen the way it usually protected him (by using Riley’s magic of its own accord).
Because of that, he hates it as much as he hates the demons.
He just uses it because the sword is more effective against demons compared to other weapons.
I completely cut that back story because the story will become too heavy.
