Chapter 5.1
Today was going to be a crazy busy day. It was Sienna’s birthday as well as her coming-of-age day.
Sienna was standing in front of a gigantic mirror. The ladies-in-waiting at her side were busily serving her.
Her silver hair had been put up into a French twist, and her beautiful neckline was revealed. A tiara embedded with fine diamonds was placed on top of her head. Her glossy, silver dress embroidered with golden thread was a work of splendid majesty.
Countess Pope was in a daze as she stared at Sienna.
“You’re truly so beautiful, Princess. But you always look beautiful, so it’s nothing new.”
The countess was telling her that she was always blindingly beautiful even without the help of jewelry or fancy clothing. These words of flattery didn’t unnerve Sienna. She was so used to them now.
Flattery existed to cover the faults of others by overexaggerating the good. To Sienna, these words were merely stating the facts. She didn’t humbly lower her beauty in her eyes. Because she was a member of the imperial family, it was only a given.
The woman in the mirror was flawless. Her ivory skin didn’t have any make-up on it, but it still looked incredibly smooth. She sparkled as if a light was constantly shining down on her.
“Is there no other dress that has been prepared for me?”
The skirts of her dress were densely packed with golden embroidery. The silver fabric was almost completely hidden. The dress looked like it was just a golden dress instead of a silver one, and Sienna didn’t like that. It reminded her of the emperor’s formal wear in her dreams.
The ladies-in-waiting began to fidget and hesitate, so Sienna asked the countess instead.
“Countess, is this the only dress that has been prepared?”
“No. A total of three dresses have been commissioned.”
“Why haven’t I seen the other two?”
“The Red King has picked the dress that would suit you the best, Princess.”
Sienna had always worn what was given to her and never expressed any displeasure. Therefore, the dresses that were made for Sienna were first sent over to the Red King’s palace. It wasn’t because Sienna was being obedient or because she didn’t have an opinion. It was just more comfortable this way.
All the dresses made for the Princess were top notch. And whatever she wore suited her. Her body seemed to accentuate the clothing instead of the other way around.
The day after the masquerade, the boutiques in the capital were drowning in orders for dresses that had a similar design to the one Sienna wore that night.
For some reason, all the details that never crossed her mind were now bothering her today. She could feel the Red King’s reach into all the trivial aspects of her life. At the thought of her mother, Sienna’s heart went cold.
“Bring another one. I will choose my dress.”
“Yes, Princess.”
Among the dresses that a lady-in-waiting brought over, Sienna picked a blue dress with silver laces. She picked a different tiara to match the dress. The new tiara was embedded with sapphires and was smaller than the diamond tiara, giving her a less grandiose look. Sienna looked at herself in the mirror and was satisfied with what she saw.
‘Did I change the future with this as well?’
If it hadn’t been for the dreams, she probably would have been wearing the gold dress today. Even though it was something trivial, just knowing that she changed the future a little bit made her very happy.
