Everyone asked so many questions; I feel like I’ll spew up blood if I answer all of them. I’ll summarize them and answer in bulk I guess. Every time this happens, I feel like there’s something wrong with me. What kind of author has a Q&A session at the end of their book? = =, But everyone seems so curious…
Those who aren’t interested in worldbuilding can skip this chapter and go straight to the extras.
Q&A
Every time I finish a volume, everyone starts guessing at the world building. I feel stressed. I picked out a few representative questions to explain here:
Q: Why don’t the corpses of the players get cleared?
A: Long story short, it’s because of dimensions. The real world is from a higher dimension and the players are from there; even if they die, they’re still from that higher dimension, meaning they can’t just be erased by a lower-dimension world made by demons. Being eaten more or less abides by the rules of normal annihilation, but they can’t be gotten rid of in a giant clean up sense. Overall, the demon world still has to follow some sort of rule or ‘fair trade’; the actions Xuezhang made in the mirror were a minigame he played with Lilith after agreeing on the rules- if Xuezhang won, he would be able to get Lin Jue out, and if he lost, they would both die.
Q: The decay of the player corpses in the misty insect domain?
A: Time only starts flowing when the domain gets opened; when it’s closed, there is no concept of time in the domain. Hence, the level of decay depends on how many times the domain has been opened, as opposed to how much time has passed in the real world.
Q: What did those markings mean?
A: None of the rounds happened in the real world. (Evidence: The corpses in the second round + the walls raising to a height they couldn’t leave from + the communication devices ceasing to work + the normal students disappearing.)
B: On the night of the zombies, Song Hanzhang carved down a mark on the oak tree → the next day the mark and all evidence of fighting disappeared → Conclusion: After dawn, they left the game map. (It cannot be inferred whether or not they have returned to the real world.)
C: Xuezhang’s main actions after dawn: carve down mark #2 at the clock tower, prepare a car as a mode of transport, stick our fliers for the easter eggs → when the game started, mark #2 still existed, the car still existed, the easter egg fliers did not → Conclusion: The fliers belonged to a special category and were banned by the system.
D: After the second round finishes, mark #2 on the clock tower disappears → after they left the mist map, they did not return to the ‘real world’ they went to after the first round finished.
E: Because there is only one real world, they could only have returned to the real world both times, or went to another fake world both times. There cannot exist a possibility where they went to the real world once and to a fake world another time. Conclusion: They never returned to the real world.
F: Continuing that line of thought: they could have lost all connections with the real world and could never be able to break through that barrier to return. The world they’re currently in; all the people and things inside are fakes created by an unknown force.
G: The above is all just a ramble from the author and the logic isn’t the best. You’re welcome to point out any flaws.
Q: The real world? How are the domain maps constructed?
A: This was basically explained in the previous question. The real world is not a creation, it truly exists. All the worlds that the main characters have gone through are fake, except for the world in which they received the easter egg. If you still don’t quite understand, I drew up a rough sketch→ ww4.sinaimg.cn/mw690/67c6cf9dtw1dzldn27g9ej.jpg
Q: What’s the point of the easter eggs?
A: It serves as a way of delivering information, and as a catalyst. Every player entered the game by receiving an egg and signing on Lilith’s book (this is the important bit). It was similar to signing a contract.
Q: How do you leave the game?
A: I’m not going to spoil it for you guys. -_- In simple terms, they need to nullify the contract. Obviously, they can’t do it by taking Lilith’s book and crossing out their names as the real signature is in the real world. They’re no longer in the real world so there’s no point in crossing out the signature in a fake world.
Q: Who started this game, and for what purpose?
A: The game is food for its creator; we can refer to them as Satan. Their food is all negative emotions, such as despair.
Q: Was the first world real or created?
A: If there is no bigger conspiracy, then the first world was real. It was a very large world with its own rules of operation, and not something that the demon who created the game could control, which was why they had to drag the players into the game world to toy with. Of course, it’s hard to say whether or not it’s actually real. The universe is so big; you never know if our world is just a novel or not either.
Q: What happened to the dead players in the real world? Why did the people who died in round one vanish?
A: The dead players would have all been counted missing in the real world, including their corpses. Shentu Ming said that Song Hanzhang had been skipping classes, but in reality, Xuezhang had gone missing. Because they weren’t familiar with each other, Shentu Ming assumed that he skipped classes. As for why Xuezhang’s investigation results showed that those players didn’t exist- that was because the world they were in was not the real world, but rather a created fake world. It was easy to erase a player’s information in a fake world, as it was basically the same thing as deleting a set of data.
Q: Where did the fliers for the easter eggs go, and why did the new players not see them?
A: Of course they couldn’t see them. Xuezhang handed out fliers in the fake world, so how could people in the real world see?
Q: How did the time skip and memory wipe work in the mirror world?
A: The mirror world is an even smaller world inside the created world, so it was possible to control its time flow and manipulate its memories. It’s similar to how we can save and reload in single-player games; it’s quite a terrifying thought and Xuezhang realized that in the mirror world, he could be easily manipulated that way. Ehehe, actually, this mechanic ties into the third book.
Q: Lu Ren’s reward?
A: I won’t tell you, it’s in the next book.
Q: What happens if everyone in the school dies?
A: The demon would know to switch places. This game probably only happens about once every ten years to the school of the main characters, and results in about ten or so students going missing. It wouldn’t continue indefinitely; when they get team-killed after a high-difficult map, the game will end.
Q: What is the next volume about?
A: I haven’t written it yet but I’m currently visualizing a very interesting team fight. Of course, we won’t be fighting other schools, that would be too cliched, but I want to make a battle between times, so basically a team from 2002, a team from 2012 (MC’s team), and a team from 2022, where the three teams will fight each other inside the school.
Does it feel too unscientific? XDDDD Theoretically it works as everyone who received an egg was taken out of the real world. There is no such concept as ‘time’ in the world they’re currently in; time belongs to the real world and since they can’t return to the real world anyways and will die sooner or later, there is no point in time.
Let’s go, Team 2012 battling Team 2002 and Team 2022~ Don’t look down on the players from other rounds, there are skilled players in every game.
