If Peng Zige seemed to attracts the female students because of his energetic personality and good looks, then what was behind Rong Siâs magnetism?
After Li Erqin had finished sorting out the seating arrangements and collecting completed books, she returns to her seat and began to concentrate on this question. Actually, nothing much had changed between the seating arrangements picked randomly by the students in the beginning. Only a few students who were either slightly taller or shorter got moved forward or back.
And Li Erqin still sat in front of Rong Si.
Her deskmate was a female student called Suzi, whose eyebrows were always bent, as if she was always smiling. Li Erqin only glanced at her once, and felt she already liked her. Plus, Â Suzi had tender lips that looked very sweet.
That first words that came out of those very sweet and tender lips were âthe person sitting behind is Rong Si right?â
âEh?â
Because of Li Erqinâs conscious acknowledgement of âeh, it ignited Suziâs verbal dialogue. Suzi had sprawled by Li Erqinâs side giving her ears a good nattering spew all about Rong Si. Â She described the time during military training when Rong Si was commanding the troops from the front, wearing his full regalia and looking mighty suave. She chattered about how who and who all felt Rong Si was the most handsome boy around.
During Suziâs long winded chatter, Li Erqin secretly looked back at Rong Si. She was concerned that he would have overheard the conversation. Â However, it seems that Rong Si still has his head buried in the new textbook, completely oblivious to their chatter.
Li Erqin couldnât quite imagine the sight of Rong Si taking charge of the military cadets at parade, or wearing his full uniform. Â She really had wanted to see it for herself. Thinking back, she really regretted being a lazy blob at home rather than going to military training.
That evening after settling into the new hostel and after everyone made their introductions, the conversation unexpectedly shifted to the main topic, Rong Si. Li Erqin totally agreed that Suzi description of Rong Si is rather accurate. Â He was the type of guy that had literally walked out from a girlâs magazine.
By the 3rd day of school, Rong Si and Suzi had become the new hot topic of conversations. Even though everyone facing a new school, a new environment and the wonder of new experiences, somehow these two still popped up in everyoneâs conversations.
Naturally, Rong Si was elected the Class Representative with Suzi as the Assistant Class Representative.
When they stood together, they presented an image of a talented and distinguished pair.
However Li Erqin didnât pay any attention to this appearance.
On the 4th night of school, during the evening study break, Rong Si caught Li Erqin drinking alcohol in a remote secluded area by the sports field.
Rong Si was responsible for patrolling the grounds every Tuesday and Thursday, catching bad students who skipped evening study classes.
This particular Thursday, he happened to passed through the sports field sensing that there were some shadows in the far remote corner. Without any consideration, he had walked over, and walked over with authority: âClassmate.â
The shadow obviously panicked, followed by something being flung toward the school wall, resulting in glass shattering.
Rong Si retreated a step with the commotion and calls out âwhat class are you from, whatâs your name?â
Unexpectedly, out walked the usually quiet and tad overboard Li Erqin.
âLi Erqin?â
Li Erqin lowered her head but showed no intention of approaching any closer.
Lowering his voice he asked: âWhatâs the matter?â
Li Erqin shook her head.
Watching her skinny solitary figure, he decided to stop questioning âJust head back to your remedial class.â
âOk.â
Finally, Li Erqin had managed to give Rong Si a reply, as she moved past his body.
The September nights were no longer as hot, as the evening breeze whispered by with cooling intentions, that brought a wonderful sense of ease. However, within this cool nightâs breeze, Rong Si picked by a scent of alcohol.
Suddenly he grabbed onto Li Erqinâs wrist immediately.
âWhatâŚwhatâs the matter?â
Li Erqin frantically looked back.
Rong Si released her hand, casually slipping his hands into his pockets: âThe evening breeze is rather soothing, letâs go sit by the sports field for a while.â
âI had better head back to class.â
This time, Rong Si firmly insisted, âLetâs go and sit for a while.â
Li Erqin could only lower her head and obediently follows Rong Si. Without any urging, Rong Si allowed her to walk a little, waiting for her to walk up before accompanying her slowly.
And maybe the objective was not to sit for a moment and talk.
With a guilty conscience, Li Erqin was too afraid to to speak. Â Rong Si on the other hand was used to the quiet, thus finding walk rather pleasant.
No one spoke.
When the night breeze blows through the trees bringing about the sound of rustling leaves, and the whisper of light airy breeze on the skin, Li Erqin who had been cooped all day in a fully air conditioned classroom, relaxed and stole a quick sigh of relief.
Rong Si noticing her slight movement, realized that this little female studentâs actions were rather amusing and cute, so he raised his right hand to cover his nose and lightly coughed.
âAre you alright?â Li Erqin asked anxiously, because of her wrongdoing and her desire to remedy the situation.
âYes?â
Sadly, Rong Si hadnât a clue as to what Li Erqin was asking about but he refused to let on.
âI did not intentionally drink alcohol, please donât tell the teacher!â
Li Erqin blurted it out in a rush, which made Rong Si have to process it for a few seconds before he understood what she was getting at.
Rong Si couldnât help but laugh when he understood the situation, while Li Erqin looked at him, totally befuddled.
âWhy did you drink?â
âOh, because Iâve never tried it before.â
âWas it nice?â
Li Erqin wrinkled her nose âBitter!â
Rong Si broke out into laughter again.
âWhy are you always laughing? Li Erqin couldnât resist asking.
âIâm sorry.â
Li Erqin couldnât figure out why Rong Si had apologised to her but stayed cautiously in place.
âI wonât report this to the teacher.â
âThank youâŚâ
As they reached the soccer field bleachers, Rong Si chose a seat and sat down,âCome and sit over here. We can wait for the the smell of alcohol to disappear before returning to class.â
No matter how stupid Li Erqin was, she could now grasp why Rong Si had suddenly asked that she find a spot to take a seat for a while.  With a distressed feeling, she lowers her head and walks up a tad closer but still a slight distance before sitting herself down.  Unconsciously tugging on her uniform skirt, she couldnât not askâŚ
âIs the smell of alcohol on me very strong?â
Rong Si nodded. However, anticipating that Li Erqin wonât have seen his nod, he quietly muttered: âYup.â
