Finally, the sinister evening remedial ended.
The group descended the stairs together before going their separate ways at the entrance. Li Erqin and Su Zi turned round the corner but were held back by a sound calling out, “Li Erqin.”
Two words immediately leapt out from the bottom of Li Erqin’s heart: (Just) as expected.
Li Erqin gave Su Zi a helpless look before saying, “Why don’t you head on back first.”
Su Zi didn’t feel at ease. “Will you be alright on your own?”
“Unless he is capable of swallowing me up in one go, there shouldn’t be any problem.”
Su Zi was speechless.
It was totally out of character for Ruan Mingxian to be standing in one place, looking all prim and proper, wearing a serious look.
Li Erqin asked, “Do you have something else that you want to say?”
“I wanted to personally explain it to you.”
Li Erqin tilted her head. “What’s there to explain?”
“About the whole emcee situation
”
“Regarding that
” Li Erqin interrupted him. She was so cold and wanted to stomp her feet, but she had to resist as she continued, “I didn’t take it to heart, so there is no need to explain.”
Ruan Mingxian was stumped.
He had wracked his brain in frustration all evening over this particular matter. He had formulated a number of approaches in order to explain things clearly to her. In the end, he had even created a rather unpleasant ruckus with the teacher-in-charge and Ju Xiaoyu.
And yet, this girl who was standing before him right now was using her trademark expression to politely inform him that she didn’t mind and didn’t take it to heart at all.
Almost like it was a joke?
He tilted his head in good humour and laughed out loud.
“That’s good then.” He then walked over to the lamp post. He realised that he was struggling to maintain his smile. “That’s better than having you mad over it.”
Li Erqin remained silent.
“It’s great that you’re not angry.” Then he continued, “Then I can rest assured knowing that you’re okay.”
“You should set this matter aside.”
Ruan Mingxian looked at her.
There was nothing truly outstanding to say about her features (her face), yet in a crowd, he would find himself drawn to her. He’d want to attract her attention and to make her laugh, just to see that trademark ‘facial paralysis’ look of her’s change into something unexpected.

“Li Erqin.” He called out to her once again. His tone subconsciously carried a heavy weight. He realised that once he uttered his intention, there was no turning back.
Moreover, he knew that he would receive an answer that leaned towards the undesired option.
Li Erqin seemed to be looking right into the depths of his eyes as she asked, “You’re going to confess?”
Ruan Mingxian was taken by surprise.
How did this conversation manage to get so weird?
Ruan Mingxian laughed in spite of himself. “So you knew about it?”
Li Erqin shook her head. “You had that look similar to someone who is about to confess.”
Ruan Mingxian felt as if his head had imploded and didn’t know what else he could say to carry on with the conversation.
(Minodayz: oh my word
LEQ, LEQ – my heart does go out to RMX but you’re a class act!!! I can’t help laughing!!! Now babydoll – why can’t you see RS’s eyes then? Guess you’re too busy melting! ROFL ✧(≖ ◡ ≖✿ )
(MissBookie: Lol, I feel bad for RMX, I really do, but where was LEQ’s confession redar when RS was almost-about to-not quite confess his feelings to her in the previous chappie?!?!?!)
“So you weren’t?” Li Erqin’s expression was that of unexpected relief.
“Yes.”
“Oh.” Li Erqin immediately turned serious again.
Ruan Mingxian was speechless again.
His first crush/love, his first confession

It had been so complicated that it was hard even to begin to explain.
“I suppose you wouldn’t have accepted my confession, right?” Ruan Mingxian asked in turn.
Li Erqin nodded her head honestly.
Speechless, Ruan Mingxuan looked to the heavens before managing to say, “Nevermind. Since there is nothing else, you can head on back to the hostel.”
“Ok then, see you.”
She then proceeded to walk away without a hint of hesitation. However, after a couple of steps, she stopped, turned and walked right back to a bemused Ruan Mingxian.
She asked, “Do you need me to act as if nothing has happened?”
(Minodayz: ok, I just can’t stop laughing – she is just tooooo adorable!!! Act away! )
Ruan Mingxian felt as if he had somehow been lambasted by a cannonball; he could only stare in disbelief. This had definitely left him at a total loss of words.
At the same time, Li Erqin had on her usual expression and was calmly awaiting his reply.
“That’s not necessary.” Ruan Mingxian managed to collect his wits. “This happens to be my first confession, how can I take it back?”
Li Erqin nodded. “Understood. Then bye.”
A hapless Ruan Mingxian could only stare at her as she battled the wind, dodging and swerving into the distance.
He couldn’t even bring himself to laugh.
To linger for any more than a couple of minutes meant being frozen to death, but he still stood there facing the elements and his rejection with resolve.
