Chapter 11: She Says.
The Li Erqin who had always been known for being a “loner” in the past, very naturally joined the duo comprised of Rong Si and Peng Zige. This was to the extent, that even when the boys were on their class clean up duty, she would continue to remain in class either doing some homework or helping out with simpler chores. When it was time for her duty, Rong Si would have already found out her designated task and along with Peng Zige, they would help her complete her chores.
Occasionally when Li Erqin was in a good mood, she would also go to the basketball court to watch the boys play. After going a few times to watch them play, she had also picked up the habit of grabbing a couple of cold drinks for them. It could be considered as her own way of thanking them for all their help with her duties.
Today, it was Li Erqin’s turn to clean up again. Rong Si was finishing up the last bit of tidying up in the classroom while Li Erqin and Peng Zige went to throw the trash away. On their way back, they were heading up the stairs when they happened to overhear some female students talking on their way down. Their conversation had obviously gone on for some time, but the main gist of their discussion was not at all difficult for Li Erqin and Peng Zige to understand.
“If you can be as shameless as she is, you’ll definitely be able to get close with Rong Si too!”
“That’s right! You also gotta deliver drinks to him daily!”
“But just look at the way she treats others with that aloof and indifferent attitude. What a scheming bitch”
“Yup, I heard she was super weird too and hard to get along with. That’s also why none of the girls in her class want to hang out with her.”
“Like she cares! Can any of you spend time with Rong Si and Peng Zige every single day?”
“I’ve also heard that Rong Si and Peng Zige even help her complete her classroom clean up chores!”
“She’s a spoiled, pampered little Miss High and Mighty!”
“So true! Just now, I saw Peng Zige helping her throw away….”
The conversation abruptly ended as they awkwardly spotted Li Erqin and Peng Zige standing at the stairwell landing listening to their discussion.
They had never even met these girls from another class before. Facing them was a very indignant Peng Zige while Li Erqin’s expression could only be described as light and indifferent.
Peng Zige was about to speak up for Li Erqin, but Li Erqin merely spared them a glance before continuing up the stairs. This left Peng Zige no choice but to walk up after her. However, to just walk away without saying anything infuriated him so at the moment they passed by the girls, he let out the following remark: “That was rude.”(Literally: How ugly!)
These simple and blunt words pierced through the girl’s hearts. Their faces, initially red from the awkwardness of bumping into the people they were talking about, quickly turned deathly pale.
It was a long time before someone finally let out their breath: “Well I’ll be……”

Peng Zige silently trailed behind Li Erqin. It was only when they were about to enter the classroom that he grabbed her and asked, “Are you alright?”
“I’m perfectly fine!”
“I don’t believe you.”
Li Erqin was indifferent as she continued into the classroom, but she ended up being held back yet again by Peng Zige.
“If you keep holding me back, there won’t be any food left in the cafeteria.”
Peng Zige silently observed her.
“I’m really alright!”
“You won’t distance yourself from us because of what they said, right?”
Li Erqin asked, perplexed, “Why?”
WHY? After Li Erqin asked, Peng Zige was rendered speechless and felt powerless, “As long as you don’t think that, then it’s fine.”
Thinking that they had concluded their conversation, Li Erqin once again tried to enter the classroom, only to pulled back again. Totally baffled, she looked at him, “What do you want?”
“You weren’t angry at all when they said those things about you? I don’t believe it.”
Li Erqin lowered her head and thought about it. Then, she looked at Peng Zige, “There wasn’t anything wrong with what they said.”
Peng Zige looked at her totally mystified.
“I do have a good relationship with you two, and I don’t really interact with the girls from our class. What else? Oh, that’s right, you guys do indeed help me with my classroom chores.”
Unbelievably, Peng Zige found what she said to be very reasonable.
“However,” she clarified, “I’m not standoffish to other people.”
Peng Zige couldn’t resist poking her forehead, “That’s not the key point! Miss High and Mighty!”
“I am also not Miss High and Mighty.”
“Don’t you use that serious looking expression to joke around with me.”
Without any changes to her expression, Li Erqin wordlessly looked at him.
“…. all right then.”
