I took her out of the guild for us talk in solitude.
Surprisingly, Leticia followed without a word.
I donât know butâŚ
Somehow she has a fearless smile.
Also, I donât know why, but Iâm full of confidence too.
It was not too long in the past where her very presence was enough to shrivel me up. But now I donât feel as scared I used to be.
âMaybe Haru wants to come back to me?â
âNo. Itâs not that.â
âugu!â
When I answered immediately, Leticia face restored to her pinched expression.
Was I listening things?
I almost heard her muttering words like⌠âthat woman has to be defamed moreâ.
This kind of attitude.
Her current dialogue.
With all of this, I was almost convinced.
Anjuâs imposter is definitely Leticia.
Whatâs her motive?
Was her motive exactly what Sana says, or was it not?
There was something I donât understand well âŚ
First of all, there was no doubt about Leticia being the culprit.
âIâll ask you without beating around the bush. Is it you who is faking to be the saint and doing scummy acts?â
âFake? Scam? What?â
Leticia pierced me with her sharp gaze.
Despite her bullish attitude, she wasnât giving away anything concrete here.
âDonât you pretend not to know. Thereâs a bad guy whoâs imposting one of my friends. Isnât that you?â
âStupid, I donât know about who this saintâs imposter is! Is there evidence in the first place? Evidence. If you were to point at me, show me the evidence first.â
âUgu ⌠thatâs âŚâ
âIsnât it wrong? If not, donât blame me out of nowhere. Can you even say something like that to the hero without any evidence? I will sue you for defaming me, and I wonder if you can get away from it.â
Leticia had a pretty obnoxious face.
She seemed to have a proper understanding of her overwhelming advantage. How was it that only Alice was able to trick her everytime? Was there something in her voice that did the trick?
I was almost certain that Anjuâs imposter was Leticia.
But there was no evidence.
Leticia was on the right track, so I think sheâll probably keep repeating these crimes again.
It would probably be perfect to develop a strategy to catch her, but it might not necessarily work.
Considering the possibility of failure, I want to settle things here as much as possible.
And the way to do that was âŚ
â⌠There is certainly no evidence. And, I canât afford to blame Leticia for it.â
âIsnât it?â she shrugged appearing as calm as ever.
âBut I think Leticia is infinitely suspicious, or rather, I donât think there can be anyone else guilty of this crime other than Leticia.â
âHuh? How can you say such a silly thing? Didnât you just admit that there was no evidence? So, can you tell me that?â
âYou might be right, but Iâm pretty sure in my stance.â
âStupid! if you say that, show me the proof, show me the proof! But if you donât, please donât say anything so silly.â
Leticia seemed to be irate, which was also reflected in her facial expression as her lips turned into a white sash.
She folded her arms and tapped against her elbows with her fingertips.
âŚâŚ What?! Is that all? I thought Leticia would be a little more reactive? Where are the cussing words that come out of her mouth like rain from the sky?
âI donât need any proof, because I clearly know that Leticia is the culprit.â
âHow can you that !?â
âAs far as the evidence is concerned the circumstances that we share are enough of a proof for me to believe it.â
âHuh? Just because of our circumstances? Is that enough for you to treat me like a criminal? Haru, you, are you messing with me?â
âNo, I am not playing around. Leticia is the culprit. There can be no other answer.â
âHey âŚ! Even if you are mine, but if you say anything silly again⌠Then I will make it really painful for you!â
I couldnât help but smile to her outburst.
âThat had always been the case.â
âThat âŚ!â
Leticia bit her lips at the last minute holding herself.
I was glaring at her at all times with a piercing gaze not letting her any leeway at escaoe.
Was it about time?
âLogically speaking, it can be no one other than Leticia.â
âWhy!?â
âThe criminal is someone who despises Anju and seeks benefit from harming her. The only one with such a motive could be Leticia. You were jealous and wanted to get rid of the girl near me.â
âHuh Haruâs stupid !? It doesnât matter who is near Haru! Itâs not like I care about it or anything.â
She cired strongly denying it. But I chose to ignore her for now.
âTherefore⌠Leticia decided to use Anjuâs name as an alias and commit a scam to dwindle her name in mud. She looked for a store that didnât know Anju well, and then⌠without paying she laughed out loud like Ha Ha Ha, while leaving the store, isnât that right? â
âThe culprit was not laughing like that stupid! It was just⌠completely normal. Normal! Haru is stupid!â
Alice and Sana who were following the conversation till now looked at eahc other.
â!?â.
However, Leticia seems to be unaware of her remark and continued to throw a tantrum.
âSo ⌠why can Leticia assert something like that. Itâs as if she had already seen that scene in person?â
ââŚâŚAhâ
Leticiaâs face turns blue as she finally realizes her mistake.
Sweat poured down her forehead.
âWell, now ⌠thatâs no biggie! I just happened to over hear it from the others⌠itâs just a coincidence.â
âYeah, maybe.â
I nodded.
âHuh?â
For her ridiculous claim to be so easily acceptedâŚLeticia couldnât help but be suspicious.
âBut ⌠the conversion has already reached its conclusion.â
âWhat, what does that ⌠mean?â
âI said this before too right? A bad guy is imposting one of my friends. Do you remember now, what you had replied? I never said that a saint was being impostered. So? How do you know that the victime is a saint? â
âUh âŚâ
âThe case is a pretty touchy in itself. So, the case is stil hidden from the public so as not to upset the people of this land. Itâs a top secret investigation carried out by the guild. And yet, why does Leticia know that the victim is a saint? THere can be only one answer for that. It is because Leticia herself is the cirminal ⌠â
âYou! You put me in a trap from the beginning âŚâ
âWell ⌠I donât think you can escape anymore?â
âUgugugu âŚ!â
Leticia bit her lips unable to do anything to help it.
She was aware that the tables had already been flipped.
Still, was the reversal permanent?
I had put some thought into this and for that âŚ
âBy the way ⌠Alice.â
âYes, itâs perfect.â
Alice took out a palm-sized magic tool.
It was a magic tool that can record oneâs voice.
âIâve recorded the conversation everything that happened till now. Thatâs a good enough proof.â
âUgh !?â
âWell ⌠would you accept your crime now?â
I turned towards Leticia with a sober expression on my face.
ââŚâ
Leticia gritted her teeth with regret as she looked alwaysâŚ
â⌠Ahhh! Why is this happening! My plan was to eliminate that woman!â
She made the big statement admitting her crime.
âDo you admit it now?â
â⌠Yes, I admit it.â
âWhy did you do this?â
I couldnât help but sigh in disappointment.
Well even if I did say that she did it out of jealousy just a moment ago.
But that was just something absurd Sana had came up with.
I am having a hard time buying that. If possible I want to have a heart to heart conversation with Leticia herself.
â⌠Itâs not what you think it is! It was just on a whim. I didnât like her somehow, so I thought Iâd cause trouble for her.â
Apparently, she is not going to talk about her motivation.
Well, should I leave the investigation around that to the Adventurerâs Guild?
âYouâve been scamming at multiple stores and caused trouble. First of all, you need apologize to the store owners.â
Leticia turned to me wide eyed.
âWhat? I didnât do that.â
âAre you still going to lie after all of this?â
âIâve scammed in one store ⌠well, I admit, but thatâs it. Iâm not fooling around in multiple places.â
Leticia, herself seemed to be totally confused ⌠Probably because I have known her for so many years butâŚshe didnât look like she was lying.
