\n
Damn those loathsome bastards!
It's been a week now since the arrival of Mars or whoever the hell he is.
The unexpected magic beast march (stampede) happened but it stopped while I was knocked out.
The people in town who don't get it are calling the kid Sword Saint but the truth is that my sword is special.
That sword is a silver mithril sword so it should be a piece of cake to wipe a hundred goblins with it.
\n
I can't tolerate this kid Clarice either.
She put the lowly people first and healed them over the noble me.
There are plenty of replacements for the residents but why can't she understand that there are no replacements for me?
\n
And the most unforgivable one is Beetle!
He became a high-ranking noble count just because of his better fortune.
He must have been really good at sucking up the higher-up.
\n
But I only need to be patient a little longer.
It's been many years since I’ve been under Magrave Dixon.
And the day that Count Beetle enters the labyrinth with the kids is the time for me to take action.
\n
There are happy talks of the labyrinth overflow (labyrinths) being settled and the residents have grown in numbers but they are all spies from the Mangrave Dixon.
Apparently, they are former dangerous thugs…so as long as the Mangrave Dixon says he will pardon them, they will give up their lives even if it is against the Knights.
The Knights of Beetle are also not to my liking.
They didn't listen to my orders.
When I take control of this town, I will use them to my advantage.
\n
I went to the tool shop and the arms shop to buy potions and weapons as instructed by Mangrave Dixon.
The weapons and potions I bought were to be given to the spies.
Of course, for coup d'etat.
Beetle is an idiot. He seems to be completely oblivious to my actions.
How could such an incompetent person become the Count?
When I get rid of Beetle, I might as well ask him how he became a count.
Maybe he has some blackmail materials of the royal family.
\n
Still, the delivery request from the Mangrave Dixon is much larger than planned.
I thought I would only need weapons and potions for 200 people since there were 200 spies, but he wanted me to get 500 each, more than twice as many as I had planned.
As expected, it was too much for me to handle alone so I used some of the spies to buy all the items I could.
Well, I am so smart that Beetle does not notice my change in intention.
Rather than Beetle’s incompetence, it is this Baronet Dames Barker’s being too skillful at fault.
\n
Mangrave Dixon said he would return double the cost later so I threw in Barker family's personal assets and managed to get the funds.
\n
And today was the day of the operation.
I was on the lookout for Count Beetle from the morning.
With the spies, of course.
\n
Thirty minutes had passed since the Count and his men entered the labyrinth.
Time to execute the plan.
In another hour, I would be the hero of this city and a viscount.
\n
Here is the plan.
First, 200 spies will attack the Knights and take control of them.
No matter how strong the Knights are, armed thugs are more than enough to handle them with lacking equipment thanks to the magic beast march (stampede) yesterday.
\n
We've been buying up all the goods in the arms store lately.
The same goes for recovery medicine. We have an overwhelming advantage.
It doesn't matter if there are some casualties.
\n
Now, all we have to do is get rid of the Count who came out of the labyrinth and we'll be all set.
Well, I have sent our most skilled ‘Barkers’ to the Count's place.
The Count might even have had an unfortunate accident in the labyrinth but I will think about that when it happens.
\n
The residents must be thinking that it is better to be ruled by this competent Lord Dames than the incompetent Beetle.
Since I am scheduled to become a count, later on, I should let the residents use this opportunity to call this noble self ‘His Excellency’ early.
\n
Dear me, the spies had already attacked the knight's quarters while I was thinking about that.
But the number of spies is awfully small...
Ah, I see! I had told them that the time of the attack would be 30 minutes after the Count entered the labyrinth at 8 o’clock. In other words, the original plan was to start at 8:30.
\n
However, we miscalculated when the Count entered the labyrinth at 7:00, an hour early.
So now we have a split between those who raid at 7:30 and those who raid at 8:30...
Which is the right way to do this? Well, if it’s this genius me, I would raid at 8:00 which is in the middle.
\n
But the stuffy place where the spies were supposed to be attacking was quiet.
Normally, I wouldn't be surprised if there were sounds of sword fights, shouts, and screams...
Well, maybe the Knights gave up because they don't have any good equipment... but to think that they didn’t even resist a little despite the lack of equipment... they're too easy.
\n
After a while, I headed toward the station to see what was going on.
I decided to head there to see at the Knights who were being held in captivity so pitifully.
When I went through the gate to take a peek inside, the gate was suddenly closed.
\n
“Good work, Dames Barker.”
\n
For some reason, a member of the Knights spoke to me in a sarcastic tone.
I was so preoccupied with the question of why he was talking to me, that I had no idea why the Knights were here when they were supposed to be under the control of the spies.
\n
“Oi, be careful how you wag your tongue. I’ll charge you for lese-majesty.”
\n
“True, because tomorrow you will be neither a noble nor a commoner, but a slave.
You should be careful how you speak.”
\n
“W-what are you talking about?”
\n
“Normally this would be a death sentence, but we're short on hands. All of you are now slaves.”
\n
When one of the Knights said that, the other members restrained me.
What is wrong with these people?
Are they nervous in front of me, the noble one?
\n
“I'll give you a little leniency now. I'll let you off with a whipping instead of the death penalty.”
\n
“As I expected, this no-good idiot has lost his mind. He doesn't seem to understand the situation. There’s no point talking.”
\n
When one of the members of the Knights said that, they all laughed at me as if they were insulting me.
As expected, even I, who have a big heart, got mad.
\n
“Hey, where’re the spies? Why are they not here?”
\n
“Haah this guy’s basically just confessed. They are already caught. I know you don't have the brains to understand this, so I'll tell you, there was a lot of our stuff among the spies. You didn't think 500 people's worth of weapons and potions was strange? Most of that equipment went back to us, the Knights. The second wave is coming in another half hour, right? We've already made arrangements to capture them.”
\n
Dumbass spies! They made me waste my money!
For the next 30 minutes, I was being abused.
Then, half an hour later, new spies were captured.
I could hear some fighting, but they were easily defeated.
\n
“Now, Dames. You, come here.”
\n
Following those words, I was forced to sit on my knees in front of the labyrinth until Count Beetle arrived.
I had been brought here even though the Barkers would have immediately overpowered them after they came out of the labyrinth.
These guys are incompetent in the end.
The Count should have been captured by the Barkers by now.
It makes me laugh to imagine of the faces of these incompetents when the door opens.
However, the Barkers did not come no matter how long I waited.
How many hours had passed? My legs were so numb that I couldn't stand up even if they told me to.
Finally, the door to the labyrinth opened.
\n
Yes! The Barkers came out.
It was indeed a D-rank party.
\n
“Well done! Barkers! I'll give you my praise! Hurry up and untie me from this noose.”
\n
It didn't take long for me to notice that the ropes were tied around Barkers' wrists as well.
\n
